    Iv known hot water shaving since I was 16 years old from 1986 so a long time , I have tried cold water shaves and they been good results but I just find hot water more luxurious and comforting 👍🪒

      I like the way you describe that. “Luxurious and comforting”. It’s definitely a compelling point. If your skin can handle it then more power to you 👍🏻. Thanks for stopping by!

    I've been DE and SE shaving for the better part of 45 years and as taught by my Dad, who was a trained barber from the old country, hot water or more specifically, a steamed towel is for after the shave to open up pours to release a new round of lymph and sebum to the shaved area to help in calming any irritation and promote healing from any occurrences that may have been experienced during the shave. Some soaps do lather up quicker with a warmer water, but never hot. Cold is the way to go for so many reasons; both for the skin as well as blades and brushes. When it comes to shaving, safely experiment and give things time to work for you. Great video. Keep up the great work and attracting interest in one of the best hobbies that I've had the pleasure to be involved in.
    Shave on:

    I use room temperature water between passes, brush is in a warm-ish scuttle(in the winter, cold scuttle in the summer) and am ice cold rinse no matter what time of year… tried every type of iteration of hot/cold shaving, this is the formula that works for me. Have a great one Ben.

      I could never keep my scuttle warm, it always cooled off way too fast. So I gave it up pretty swiftly. Maybe I need to revisit that at some point. Thanks for watching!

    I've been shaving with a straight razor for over 35 years now. I always have and always will use cold water. As a matter of fact, if the water is not cold enough, I will use a bucket of water with ice in it. I don't have any razor burns, nicks or cuts. Ever. Listen to this man, your skin will thank you.

    Nailed it! Cold water shaves has so many benefits. I did Frozen February about the same time you started cold water shaving. It takes time but it's worth it.

      Now there’s a clever idea. Death by menthol and freezing cold water. Makes my bones quiver at the idea. Definitely going to see about doing that. Thanks for the idea!

    I tried cold water for one day and was hooked. It's so refreshing and I had a great shave.

      I think people just don’t consider it that seriously, because that’s not what they taught themselves. So it feels weird.

    Great informative video dude!
    Very neat, I was not aware of all the benefits to cold water. I'll have to start using it for my shaves. I really enjoy using cold water with a mentholated soap to get that extra cold rush. Thanks for the tip Ben and enjoy your week!

      Yeah a lot of people just do what’s comfortable and it doesn’t occur to them to ask questions. No harm I suppose, as long as you’re open minded. Thanks for stopping by!

    I've tried cold shaves a couple of times but can never get used to it. The hotter the better for me.

      Hey if you have a routine that you’re satisfied with, then go for it. I just bring this up mostly for people are looking for some improvements but it doesn’t occur to them to switch up the water temperature. Thanks for watching!

    I use room-temp water, so about 20C degrees, works perfect. Final rinse goes as cold as i can get from tub 😁

    • @soapthing
      @soapthing  8 месяцев назад +1

      That would work perfectly fine I imagine. It’s very hot water that can harm your face.

    Cold Water Shaving - Soap Thing Approved 👍(Ding!)
    For me, cold water shaving equals less potential for irritation. I switched about a year ago and have not looked back. As always Ben, great production value on your videos! I'm enjoying the non-shaving videos as much as the shaving ones.

    Also to mention , cold water on the razor blade itself tempers it and makes it a better shave

  • @unclelshaves

    Hmm... You made some compelling points to convince me to move away from hot water (more warm water) to cold water shaving, however, as I shower after shaving many of the drying skin aspects "don't hold water" for me and with my post shave routine I've never had any issues you described. The biggest thing for me though is hot water shaving is comforting especially in the colder months. All that said though I'm willing to give cold water shaving a good try during the warmer months this year and see how it goes but I make no promises, comfort comes 1st ...lol...👊🤠🤟

    • @soapthing
      @soapthing  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like you and me have differing philosophies. Comfort is pretty low on my priority list and just simply getting an effective shave is a lot closer to the top. I’d rather have an effective shave that hurts than a comfortable shave that didn’t accomplish what I wanted. By no means is it a binary proposition but it’s interesting to think about. Thanks for stopping by!

    I agree with you 💯 that cold water is by far much better. Ask any dermatologist, even hot showers are terrible for your skin. Actually the healthiest showers are with water as cold as you can tolerate. Cold showers also stimulate the vagus nerve which is phenominal for anxiety and depression. Cold water is so much more relaxing than hot. Your body just needs time to adjust. Cheers Ben! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻

      I didn’t not know that. I’m gonna go freeze my ass off in the shower next time I get stressed out and see if it works for me. Thanks for the tip!

    Warm water shaving since 2007 with zero issues. Not all skin types are the same. Can't put everyone in 1 category. It's your shave though, do what works for you

      You’re not wrong. I just think it’s human nature to assume that because we like something, there’s no benefits to doing it the other way. All I’m doing is trying to spread awareness. If you’re satisfied with your routine then don’t let me stop you. Thanks for watching!

  • @pjwroblewski

    Nope! Since soaps are mostly butters, cold water will inhibit those butters from emulsifying.

    • @soapthing
      @soapthing  2 года назад +1

      Really? I’ve never noticed a difference. I get sensational lathers without hot water every day of the week. There might be a scent difference but even then, I’ve never noticed. I’d think you’d have to have scalding hot water to really emulsify butters the way you’re describing, but I could be wrong. Thanks for stopping by!

    Another great, informative video, Ben. Since you replied to my earlier comment, I have moved to luke warm water for face wash and everything else. It has actually made a big difference (smoother shaves, less irritation). Now I understand why. Straight cold water from beginning to end might be a bridge too far for me at this stage… Cheers. 👍🪒

    • @soapthing
      @soapthing  2 года назад

      Well I should’ve mentioned that it doesn’t have to be one extreme or the other. Mostly what I want people to avoid is scalding hot water that’s almost too hot to handle. That’s where all the damage comes from. Thanks for your continued support!
