They didn't write this song, it's from Dear Evan Hansen (If you didn't know). They are good at singing and piano though.
I love how this song talked about counselling because I was always a bit mad at Cynthia if she knew how bad it was, why didn't she get help? But now I know she did and it just wasn't enough and ow my heart
Sometimes you can set every help in the way of a troubled child... and it doesn't help because they won't accept it.
That old saying of "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" applies to people too. Folks... especially those with troubles... will often not accept the help people are trying desperately to give them.
Sadly... I know this from experience.

I know it's a late response but when they are arguing at the table Cynthia said "I had to fight you every step of the way, rehab, all the help" or something along those lines. so yeah, they did. I didn't really notice at first either haha
Yeah, it’s canon that cynthia did everything she could to get Connor help, but he refused it because of his father’s outlook on it. That he was seeking attention.

Sofia Gomes Before DEH was on Broadway and they were in Washington D.C. they had more facts about why Connor became depressed. It's a shame they didn't include them in the broadway version but these were the facts in the off-broadway production:
1. Connor's teachers called his parents telling them Connor was being bullied and coming to school smelling like cigarettes
2. Teachers advised Connor's parents to put him on antidepressants, and they did, until they stopped working.
3. Then Connor started to do drugs

@@jasminewaite5071 I wish they would have put these facts. Sometimes I feel like there's so much missing from Connor's story and his story should be told more to make sense of why he eventually ended up killing himself. That way, people would understand more of why a teenager is suicidal instead of just calling them a problematic kid with an anger issue.

If you’d like some more insight, although this isn’t in the offical musical/story, the DEH book covers a lot of Connor’s back story and it’s super interesting and you hear a lot of what was going on in his head

Bruh I'm just imagining near the end when they're both singing together, they're both sitting back to back (like those door scenes in movies) and Evan and ghost Connor come in the rooms and try to help their moms and Evan helps his mom up and they walk away. And it's just ghost Connor and his mom. Since Connors dead he can't help her while she's singing that last part of the song and she picks up his signature black hoodie and hugs it while Connor either hugs her or tries to but right when he's about to hug her he freezes and walks away and leaves her all alone right before her last line. *LIGHTS OUT*

Yeah, but Hamilton is a sing through musical. Dear Evan Hansen has scenes in it, so if they didn't cut a few songs then there would be no time for the dialogue.

I don't know that I'd want to change a thing about the show, but this is another heartbreakingly beautiful song. Even though it got cut, I'm so glad they recorded it and it's posted here. I feel grateful I get to experience it at all!
lisette, a musical which is mostly sung is not an opera. rent, phantom etc are musicals. an opera actually has acted scenes as well. what defines an opera is that it is done by an opera company, not a musical theatre troupe. Musicals that are primarily sund through can be referred to as oprettas but also just musicals. Evita, Hamilton, Cats, a lot of Sondheim shows fall in this category.
I'll just blame it on weed, or something in my eye.

ANOTHER song that shows so much important characterization that was cut! I understand why but...I feel like this would've added so much to the plot. Very sad to see it cut. Also, totally not bawling my eyes out
Sheridan Dwyer I think (imo) it would have shown that Cynthia and Hedi did knows thier sons more than its shown in the show. It showed they were close at some point and as Conner got older the drifting that sometimes happens between a teenage child and parent happened and Cynthia still tried, it would make her instance and desperation to hear Conner was good deep down more understandable, rather than have her look like she was in denial.
And it would probably have made me at least more sympathetic towards Hedi. Like I was raised by a single parent and i can understand her and So Big/So Small still makes me cry, but this song showed that she had been very involed with Evan's life when he was little and drive home the point everything she did was for him. On one hand that makes it even more understandable why Evan felt so attention starved from her; things werent always like they were at the point in the show, and the drifting between them was circumstance of Hedi having to work more and more.
I think it would have made her pov more understandable in Good For You a little, but thats my personal feelings (she comes if very selfish in that song to me personally, like shes mad that hes happy instead of being mad he used a kids death)

In the same live stream they sang this song they said that the actors for Cynthia and Heidi (can't think of their names off the top of my head) recorded a version of this song and hoped that it could be released to the public someday.
I love how into the song the writers get, especially at the end they're both singing their hearts out and the piano playing is amazing

This and A little bit of light are so beautiful songs I so wish wasn't cut. At least one of them should have stayed, they tell so much about what we don't know, like how hard Cynthia tried to reach through to Connor. It also shows how hard it can be to live with someone who is mentally sick, and that there isn't always anything you can do. And to hear about Evan and Connor as children just breaks my heart.

I saw the show and I can tell you they probably cut both of them for one reason: Mike Faist. Everything those songs describe, all the pain, all the frustration, the anger, the tears, he conveys all of that with a single vulnerable glance. While I agree the songs are beautiful and could very well have been left in the show, they probably cut it for length reasons because Mike Faist can express all of that in the little stage time he has, without the need for words.

I managed to get through this entire song without crying. And then Cynthia's last line played and I lost it.
Please add this back... Larry can also sing some parts like the stanza with the Wolverine costume, the stanza with "no winners", and the last stanza. Make him put Connor's things in boxes which would be opened again in the Glove song. This would humanize him a bit.

This s the most beautiful song...
I've just been listening to all the cut songs on here and it really makes for a much darker, sadder tone in the first Act. Pasek and Paul mentioned that with this song and/or A Little Bit of Light, and Requiem all together it would have been too dark and difficult to come back from. But I really like that trio (plus A Part Of Me) as it adds weight to the story and really makes you feel for the parents. Kind of like how I've Been, I Am the One, and A Light in the Dark give you Dan's perspective in Next to Normal as the loved one dealing with everything, it's not just Diana/Natalie's story. Obviously N2N is heavier and more intense than DEH, and really is an emotional punching bag pretty much the whole show while DEH is lighter in general. Still, while I do love the OBC, I am a little sad these songs weren't included.
Honestly I feel like this song should have been left in the show, it would be by far my favourite. It's so beautiful and would have been an amazing addition not only Cynthia and Heidi's characters but also to Connors. I feel like we never learn much about who he really was or his issues.

They shouldn't have cut it, Cynthia probably got the least singing parts for one thing. But not just that, every character but her gets a song or part long enough to let them express their emotions that are specific *only to them.*

Cynthia gets a couple singing lines to herself in Disappear and I think that's it (not including regular lines within songs either). I probably sound mad 😂 I'm not but it's kinda disappointing to know her character actually had a perfect song specifically for her and it got cut

i feel like so many songs cut from musicals move the story so much farther and delve so much deeper into specific characters, and i don’t know if it’s just me but they turn out to be one of the better songs in the show.
