I followed this step by step. Exact same model of exhaust fan. The only pain was putting in another switch for it. The install of this fan is stupid easy.
Thank you so much most youtube videos show how to “replace” but not how to install exhaust fan on a bathroom that never had one! 🙏🏾🙌🏾🤞🏾 no I feel confident to go to mine 😊
How can I remove this style fan, when it’s screwed tight to the above floor joist? I almost have it removed but the housing won’t budge. Is my only option, to cut into my ceiling?
this must be the cheapest builder favorite have a few of these in the house, I hate that plastic cover is a dust magnet and not good air flow, ty for the video
If installing it in attic space wouldn’t using insulated duct be more appropriate because of the cold attic environment? Band clamps or screws holding the ducting on then tape wrap is better. My question is: would it be better to oversize a fan a bit because I often find myself running my bathroom fan at least 20 minutes after my shower to help dissipate the moisture build up during the shower that it couldn’t keep up with?
When stripping the wire I recommend just cut at the very end, and then pull back on one wire to split the yellow jacket back to the wire entrance. This way you don't risk cutting into the wire with your blade.
Your vids are awesome. I work in maintenance for a timeshare property been doing it for about 5yrs and do a few side jobs ur vids are helpful keep them coming .👍🏽😎
I replaced mine, same brand, and just replaced that part containing the motor and the fan etc and just put it back into the original housing that was installed in the attic access but either part of the housing seems loose or something is wrong because it fell back out when I was troubleshooting to make sure it worked after plugging it in, I was able to put it back in, just not sure I trust it...so far with the cover on, it's working, just doesn't seem real secure and although it's in the same way the old one was, didn't seem to click in like yours did in those little slots.
Great video! except where on the house do you exhaust??? Can the flex tubing go below the level of the fan and out the side of house ? Should it stay above the level of fan and out from the roof? Which would require a different vent cap. Thank you for your response
Is that a dedicated 12/2 wire? I have a bathroom fan that calls for 14 AWG and just wondering if exhaust fans need to have a dedicated wire or can it be spliced off of an outlet
It's pretty much the same it will have an extra black wire or blue and connect them together. Or if you want to run a separate wire and have a switch just for the light than connect the blue to the new wire.
Thanks Alberto! Started this channel for fun and then I realize how many people enjoy watching the videos and learning a thing or two. I will keep the videos coming your way! Thanks a lot for watching!
Great video. Thanks for making it. Now I know why I can't remove the whole assembly without having to get into the attic. I think I will just replace the motor module for now. I figured while I was looking to replace it, I'd inspect the flexible duct hose to make sure it was clear of debris. I've heard stories of construction workers stuffing trash in it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nice video and well done. As an alternative to tape couldn’t you use zip tie or hose clamp? Seems like this would make for a quicker and easier installation.
Yes I have used hose clamps in the past. I feel like it is a better seal with the tape. It probably would do just fine with the clamp though. I have never use zip ties. That could be something to try. Thanks for watching!
I moved into a house with a downstairs bathroom. Noticed that the ceiling fan isn’t connected to a flex duct or obviously a vent. Any tips on how to run it to the outside? My guess is to stay away from the top two two block courses on the basement wall and punch through the third. Is it okay to punch through the second course or stick with my gut?
Always enjoy your excellent videos Josh. In my opinion, they are the best on the Internet for this type of work. I too wish you would supplement this by adding how to connect the same fan with a light. I have in my hand the Broan connections for the combo unit. It has the two plug-ins, one with black & white and the other blue & white. I am assuming that 12/3 or 14/3 will be run, the white neutrals wire nutted together and the two blacks will connect and finally the blue and red (from the 14/3) will wire together. Correct?
If you look at the videos on my channel of wiring the rooms, ( ruclips.net/video/ccrQBLvQTPQ/видео.html )they show me running a 12 three wire to power the fan light combo. It is the exact same way you would wire a bathroom fan light combo. I hope that helps!
have a question, my curtain bathroom exhaust is the same size as this one but the duct is on the opposite side? is the duct moveable to the other side? thanks!
Hi! So I took mine down and apart cuz I noticed it starting smelling like dampness in the bathroom. It was dusty af…i cleaned it and still not exhausting but the fan is blowing but not towards that black thing. Also that black plastic exhaust pipe thing has little flapper things that can open if I tap on them but not too much…like there is something blocking it maybe or maybe they just don’t open wide I don’t know (I’m a female 1st time even doing this crap)…so my question is should I just turn the stainless motor housing thing around to blow towards the black plastic exhaust??? No one mentions if the air should blow towards that way or if it even matters since it’s blowing in that recessed housing….just curious. Thank you!
Good video but I have no idea how you can use walmart brand screws. I've never had their nails or screws work for me. Always have to buy them from a hardware store.
Hi Josh, LOVE your videos. I have installed two similar Broan fans in my build and one has a heater, the other just exhaust. I am planning on SEVERAL inches of blow in cellulous insulation after the ceiling goes in. Do cover yours with insulation, do you build a protective box around your fan.... mine is IC rated but I am worried about the fan with the heat unit. Should I build a protective foam box around it or bury it with blow in insulation.??? Thanks!!
Thanks! Yes we use 12/2 on everything. Cost a little more but I’d like to make sure I have enough gauge for the future. I will check out Panasonic. Thanks for watching!
If this fan was temporarily(two days) being mounted on a wall could you bypass the internal ‘outlet’ and the wiring by plugging it directly into a gfci outlet on the wall ?
Also might add that heavy foil tape will slice your fingers. vent covers can sure be ugly,,mounted👍🏼. depending how far to run the duct,,support between joists.
Hey Josh! Thanks for the awesome video! I had a question. Is there a code on having the flexible duct sloped or not really. Mine I installed not sloped. Thanks man! GOd bless!
At this point the manufacturer recommends and now provides a zip tie. Seems waaaay easier, and like it won't fall off in five years when the adhesive on the tape gives up
I have this fan ready to install I'm basement. When I Google duct length and size limits it says 3 inch is not allowed for fan??? I. Ended up increasing it to 4 inch but according to the tables that come up online that's only allowed up to 4 feet and I have 20 feet to go. Can you elaborate if you have heard of these charts ?
@@TheExcellentLaborer yes free of clogs. I actually removed the fan to put rodent repellent between the floors ( downstairs bathroom) before I reinstalled the fan I just plugged it in to make sure I didn’t damage anything when I removed it and that’s when I noticed that the air was getting blown into bathroom. When I placed my hand on what is supposed to be the exhaust side I could not feel any wind. The wiring seems correct. Black - black / green - copper / white - yellow
These are a pain in the butt to replace. Why would they design this with the screws to the attic side. So should I destroy the sheetrock in order to fix this?
While push ins are excellent in many circumstances, in this case they are an absolute no-no as the wire supplied with the Broan is twisted. He did it properly and it would have been against code and a fire hazard if push ins were used.
Its against building code to vent anything into the attic or in a concealed framed structure. Steam, septic gases, drier lint, contents from range hoods.. All fire or health hazards. Read a building code manual or don't put anyone elses family at risk. Very unprofessional. 🤣
