Costco Products Face Explosive Price Increase As CEO Reports A Large Number Of Challenges

  • Costco is quietly raising prices again, and this is making customers from all over the country really furious. Executives warn that even more increases are on the horizon as the company implements a series of changes this year. Higher grocery prices have been a major topic of concern for American families since the pandemic. Despite all the talk about deflation, U.S. consumers are still spending on average $1,000 more on the same basket of basic items they used to buy four years ago.
During its final days at Costco, Galanti suggested that while the warehouse club wants to offer the most competitive prices, it is not above grabbing wider margins when the right opportunity presents itself. In other words, Costco doesn't always keep its margins thin on the items it sells, but it looks to keep prices marginally lower relative to its rivals.
So far in 2024, grocery price increases have outpaced overall inflation. Families are now paying 25% more for groceries than they were prior to the pandemic, compared with 19% overall inflation. About five categories drove nearly 30% of grocery inflation. They are beef and veal, poultry; non-frozen non-carbonated juices and drinks, fresh fruits and vegetables, and snacks, according to the report.
Such elevated costs for food are hitting American families harder higher than ever before. From February 2023 to February this year, low-income families have been hit the hardest by rising grocery prices, and they have spent on average 31% of their income on food, compared with 23% for middle-class households, and only 8% for wealthier ones, data shows.
“I think people are waiting for prices to return to what they call ‘normal’ - and with the exception of a few things, - we’re not going to see that. We’re going to see prices stabilize at this level, and that’s likely it,” said Dawn Thilmany, an agricultural economist and professor at Colorado State University.
That's sad news for everyone struggling to get by month after month. But that's the new reality we're in and, at the end of the day, Costco is just a small fish in a sea of vicious creatures.

You will always find some places selling cheaper, there is a fight among food stores. For instance, I went to the store for some onions (white) and I found out the price was $2.99 per pounds, I said to myself, forget it. I headed to another store and I found them for $0.99 per pounds and the quality was excellent. We have the money to choose (power).

People acting like they can't survive without their perfectly crispy calamari sticks. Can't be bothered to be strategic with their spending habits. Can't be bothered with anything other than complaining how unfair everything is, while they continue to fork over their money for all their meticulous desires, making the greedy profit driven corporations even more rich. Not many people know the difference 'wants' and 'needs' these days. They're entitled to everything they want, when they want it. These people would've never survived winter 100yrs ago.

It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of investing in the stock market and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. I remember a few summers ago, after a tough divorce, when I needed a boost for my struggling business. Last time I went, I bought a 25lbs bag of all purpose flour for less than $9! That's less than $2 for every 5lbs. At my local grocery store, it's over $3 for a 5lbs bag so I'm already saving over $5 just on flour.
Zipfizz (energy drink mix) is $30 for a 30 count which makes it $1 per energy drink. Every other energy drink I can find is over $2 so that's $30 I'm saving.
$2.99 for 24 eggs is $1.50 per dozen. Not sure what eggs cost at my local grocery stores but I know it's more than that.
I save on everything I buy at Costco so for me, my membership is worth it! 😃

Received a Costco card as a Christmas gift. Didn’t sign up until February and went to explore the store. I was impressed by all the products they carried, but also surprised by costs. I began taking pics of products and price of my usual pantry supplies. Upon arriving home, I began to compare prices with my local grocery store. As it turns out, Costco was only a little cheaper, we’re talking three to ten cents, but the quantity you had to buy to get these savings was ridiculous. Some of the quantities would last me 8 to 12 months.
In march I returned the card for a full refund

I bought a 25lbs bag of flour (less than $9), a couple 4.5lbs bags of chocolate chips ($10.99 each) and 2 cartons of 24 cage free eggs ($2.99 each). Okay, bad example for the obesity argument but chocolate chip cookies make people happy and they're a great ice-breaker! 😂
They also have 20lbs bags of rice, bulk spices, yeast, flats of evaporated milk and the business Costco near me sells whole lambs, 5lbs bucketts of honey and I can't name everything but Costco sells lots of ingredients.

I've been shopping at Costco all the way back when it was called "The Price Club" in California and later the "Warehouse Club" here in the midwest. What originally attracted me was obviously lower prices for goods that me and my family use daily year in year out. Also, the veriety of offerings under one roof. One stop shopping was great. The video I've just viewed highlights pretty much everything I've been experiencing shopping at Costco over the past two plus years. In fact, to borrow a music trim, the price increases the video notes reached a "Crescendo" in 2023! It wasn't all that long ago that I could go to any Costco store and walk out with a cart and a half of groceries for $50.00 to $80.00. Over the most recent twelve months however, I have not been able to out of there, for the same items for under $150.00 to $200.00! Also, gasoline prices that use to be 15 to 25 cents lower per gallon than the discount gas stations is almost not worth continuing to buy gasoline at Costco. The per gallon savings where I live in southwest Ohio are only 2 to 5 cent per gallon below the discount gas stations. The bottom line, my wife and I have gotten creative about where we shop and what we buy where. In several instances we've found Kroger prices (the big grocery store chain here), are frequently lower than Costco and the quality, especially on produce better. We are seriously considering not renewing our membership!

I’d need a huge freezer I don’t have room for and it would take me a year to eat it and I probably wouldn’t want whatever it was by then anyhow. 🤣So, it’s a waste of money for food but clothes and other things ok. They've been doing this since the end of last year. There profits doesn't come from selling the groceries, but from their memberships that's why they were trying to force people to get their own membership and not share with family members who can't afford them. Anything that you see once you cross the entrance is being paid for them to advertise to you to buy. From manufacturer, so basically, product placement in your face to buy!

Eating cheap food causes weight gain
      Diabetes cancer and kills people
So people that can’t afford food are going to buy cheap foods , white rice turns to sugar, no nutrition
Potatoes turns to sugar causes people to gain weight
      Crackers turns to sugar
      Pasta turns to sugar

I used to buy steak from Costco nearly every time I visited. I can't remember the last time I did this as my local grocery store now mops the floor with Costco on price. This is opposite of what it used to be. I often find better prices AND quality on produce like blueberries at Sam's.

I love listening to this cat, “the world as you know it is about to entirely collapse.” In a fancy accent. At first I didn’t think he was serious; I thought it was a parody. I’ve been listening for a while now to Epic economist. Great unbiased news reporting; in a fancy accent. 😁👍🏻

    That is ridiculous.
If they're getting record level profits, there is NO reason to increase prices.

I'm a big horror fan, and "enjoy" the content from this doom and gloom channel. Whenever I'm feeling down I like to watch your apocalyptic style videos proclaiming "The Collapse Has Begun!" or "Be Ready For The Collapse!" You should try and mix up the thumbnail captions with something like "The End Is Near!" or "The Dead Walk!"

Last week we spent over 200$ for about 10 items. That gotta be really excessive price gouging....😮

They need to raise the price of their rotisserie chicken to 10 dollars. It's still a great deal at that price. And it would keep people from buying 50 at a time. Also they need a no return policy on perishables. I've seen way too many people return christmas trees after christmas, that's way beyond fked up.

Hmm. I wonder if Diners are buying them to make chicken salad or whatever.

10$ chicken is still a good deal; a chicken sandwich combo meal is now 10$, fast food joints.

Bull crap roadside..anyone sells me rotten food, IM TAKING IT BACK! I also just recently took back a take out order that was bad. I 'know' what it was suppose to taste like. They used old freezer burned chicken. We ALL know what that taste like right? Ewwww. Not paying for rotten/bad food!
