  • Dr. Cornel West and Richard Wolff discuss the failure of the United States to implement a public response to a public threat in COVID-19. The sad, decayed state of the American experiment does not mean we can give up on fighting against capitalism, patriarchy and white supremacy!
    "When you have a public life that is so debased, and degraded, and devalued that when there's a public threat, you're unable to provide an effective public response... It's clear that America is a colossal failure in terms of having a high quality, public life and therefore public response to public problems."- Dr. Cornel West

    Dr Michael Hudson stated that the Ruling Class in the US uses the Health System for control of the people. Health Insurance is tied to employment, so going on strike means loss of Health Cover. One must accept working conditions offered to still have Health Cover. A serious illness can mean bankruptcy. It is a powerful means of control, as we have seen during this pandemic.

    I have read the Proceedings of the Church Committee. You know those green books in the bowels of the university library. (Seems like most US academics don't spend much time with those books.) The last one who did and published was Ward Churchill. And we all know what happened to him. So, much for academic and free speech in the USA. We are not ruled by fear. We have free expression. I have read the U.S. and Chinese constitutions. The Chinese actually have an enumerated right and duty to vote. Yet, they are the "authoritarians." Meanwhile Americans have no enumerated right to vote, a House capped at 435, an oligarchic body the Electoral College controls who is president, the most people in prison and we know from the Church Committee that some of our "left" political leaders are FBI agents. And I will add the Snowden revelations about domestic surveillance. The US is much, much more worse than China. Cornel West knows what the government did to Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, the Black Panthers and MOVE in Philadelphia. They even helped the South Africans capture Nelson Mandela. I think we need to be honest about who are the real authoritarians.

For example I could be in favor of the death penalty while you would not. But we would respect each other even despite our differences. Two brilliant minds in four minutes revealing the disrespect the American government has for its citizens. Americans have accepted this disrespect and often defend it. They believe demanding respect is asking for handouts from government. Instead it is the duty and responsibility of government to provide for citizens on. A single payer healthcare plan is not a free handout. It is taxpayer, citizen funded. Instead of paying premiums to insurance companies to skim off profits, what is paid in premiums could fund a single payer healthcare plan. It should include price negotiations. Be absent of co-pays and deductibles.

    I have said basically the same thing as Cornell. We are a society that has embraced hedonism and Sloth. So transfixed are we in our own individual insular lives. And in consumerism that basically eliminates solidarity of community. We have managed to put the shackles on ourselves and indentured the collective to unwanted bondage. We have become slaves to the unnatural and unacceptable box of a society. That can not know or understand what true freedom, liberty, or justice is. Equality is a fantastic concept we do not know or understand in the core. We virtue signal, while at the same time take the intolerable. Tightening the self imposed bonds that kills us. Whether in economic, personal, and collective down fall. We have lost the sanity and ability to enlightened communal self preservation. As individual blends into collective society. Which we have all become prisoners of.

    Hello Richard, I enjoyed your conversation with Cornel West, thank you. With nothing but respect intended, the comparison with China is not a good one....they have a total covid deaths reporting problem I am afraid. India had much the same problems. In fact the amount of deaths in these countries really ran into the millions, multi millions. There are ways I know this that I can't share, suffice as to say information is now coming out that points to this severe under counting. The United States, like Canada, the EU, the UK, all have very regimented sophisticated reporting. TROTW (The rest of the world) I am sad to say do not. China has a severe Covid Zero policy, that eventually came home to roost. Once they opened back up their society it blew the lid off their daily infection rates becuase little to no one was vaxxed.....at one point there was 65 to 100 million infections per week. Crematoriums were overwhelmed....open burn pits in the country were being used. Anyway, just thought I would add to your basic understanding, take care. LarryC

      I love Jimmy Dore too, but keep in mind that he and Stef are vaccinated. He's one of the few who had a bad reaction, however, and is now in a study. He then began doing a lot of research on Big Pharma and all these cringe worthy mandates. Jimmy is NOT an antivaxxer, but he is against all these mandates used to further social control and create a more dystopian future that remind me of Black Mirror.

    Maybe I'm missing something but I don't know how you can consider knowing China's covid numbers. Also, China doesn't have free healthcare. I've heard regular everyday people who have families and/or know people in China talk about the extremely cruel lock downs. Now, there are areas around China that report their numbers and some of the numbers are quite high. So, if the areas around China are some what high to me that give some indication that the numbers in China are also higher than reported by China. The US numbers are also unreliable. I agree the healthcare system needs to be re-hauled. If you want to solve the healthcare problem for the better then you have to oust the middle men/women. Dr. West rant on patriarchy and white supremacy is BS. It's not the patriarchy or white supremacy that is the cause of our problems in healthcare it's usury and classism. There are three areas where capitalism doesn't work and that's healthcare, education and housing. And, yes capitalism has failed in other areas as well but nothing like it has in the three areas I just mentioned. So, work on fixing those big three problems which is doable and stop talking about non-sense like the patriarchy or white supremacy. In other countries they have the same problems and it's not the patriarchy or white supremacy. Countries like China, India, Brazil, Japan, etc... it's usury and classism. And, it's always been usury and classism.

      The only numbers coming out of China are filtered by their autocratic government first, so we have ignore them as noise. China's government will do anything to save face. There is no legitimate reason for the US not to have socialized medicine. The US doesn't have socialized medicine because the US government is bought by the wealthy. Public healthcare would eliminate a huge lever that businesses have to indenture and abuse workers. China's self-reported covid numbers and the US healthcare dilemma are not connected. Attempts to do so, weaken the argument.

      The root is private property in the marxist sense. Society's productive forces are privately owned. A handful of people own everything required to produce the necessities and the vast majority working class must work/be exploited by and for the benefit of this relative handful. And when social labour is carried out to produce whatever, large surpluses of value (above worker's collective wages) are produced which the owners control. Social labor processes with private appropriation of the products/value. Those who actually physically produce don't control what they produce and those who don't, do. Cornell West (like Chris Hedges) is an ordained Christian minister who might throw out the words socialism or Karl Marx every now and again, but he ain't no revolutionary. Cornell West (like Chris Hedges) doesn't have/rejects a class analysis and thus does not support working class struggle to take state power to defeat the bourgeoisie. We must eventually hold humanity's productive forces as the common property of all and centrally plan in a rational way human economy. Working class struggle for socialism is the only way forward for humanity.

    You are ignoring that the number of covid deaths and cases are enormously overblown (PCR has 50% to 95% false positives AND flu, pnemonia, cancer and even motorcycle accidents are counted as covid). Perhaps China is simply NOT counting flu and pneumonia as due to covid.

      Come back to reality they are not counting flu and motorcycle accidents as covid deaths lmfao Maybe do a cursory search on China covid protocol.. One person tests positive they lock down the radius, no public transport in or out, no private cars on the road, all schools and stores shut down except food and medicine, everyone locked in their apartments with only one family member allowed to get food every 2 days, guards outside the apartment building checking everyones temp... Then there is the US "lockdown" which is just wearing a piece of cloth over your face at target , we can't even get the hogs to do that. Even worse these people are organizing to protest the piece of cloth instead of the deteriorating material conditions of the workers in this country.

    • @nunyabizz50
      @nunyabizz50 3 года назад +7

      Youre obviously a reich wing nutbag because you have exactly the opposite of reality.
      most test show on average 20% false NEGATIVE not positive. False positives are actually almost non existent because of the type of test that Covid test are. They are whats called "highly specific" which means they almost never give false positive results, flu or flu shots can not trigger a covid test. If a covid test was the type that was "sensitive vs specific" then it would be just the opposite and have lots of false positives but that isnt the case.
      None of the above is ever counted as covid because every single mayor of every city and every governor of every state are all working and spinning as hard as they possibly can to HIDE as many covid deaths as possible to make themselves look better for re-election, this is a known fact because several have been caught red handed doing so. For instance we have no clue how many have died in Floriduh but you can bet its at least double what that lunatic Desantis claims, same with that crook Cuomo in NY
      The real death toll for covid in the US is easily way over 1 million and within 10 years because of the damage to heart lungs kidneys etc from long covid the death toll is going to be many millions.
      youre just spreading reich wing political propaganda.
