Mike Erickson Williams is very acclaimed in the epic classy orchestral music he made and now that I'm kinda getting into film music is kinda sad that when his out of his usual trademarks he doesn't get the same attention.

Star Wars alone has so many different melodies that are so instantly recognizable and hummable. Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, Anakin‘s Theme, the Imperial March, Yoda‘s Theme, The Battle of Yavin, Battle of the Heroes, Rey‘s Theme, The Revellion is Revorn, March of the Ewoks,… all sound distinct and different and fit what they represent perfectly. As a saxophone player, I was so happy to hear the beginning. If you don't know, the first melody instrument playing is an alto saxophone, but it's classical sound, not jazz, which is what the majority of saxophone playing really sounds like 0:19 (sax is originally a classical instument, meant to sound somewhat like cello), but at 0:57 he switches to a jazz embouchure

Further proof that John Willians is the Mozart of our century
One of the cooler aspects about writing for motion pictures, is that the composer - more than any other musical idiom - has the freedom to combine and draw from a multitude of musical idioms to sonically signature the film. Simply put: John Williams does this on an Olympian level on this, his best soundtrack. He utilizes classical and post-bop stylings into an invigorating, and impressionistic soundtrack. Bernstein, Stravinsky, Ravel, Debussy, Bach, Ellington, Miles Davis, Gil Evans and John Lewis: Williams mixes all of them on his aural palette to create an artistic sound-portrait that stands, and swings on its own miraculous merit. - Excelsior, John Williams!
This opening sequence is my favorite in all of the movies I’ve ever seen it captures the entire plot while not giving to much away and the music is absolutely perfect for the tone of the movie. I’ve been obsessed since I first watched this when I was 7 or 8!
One of the better soundtrack instrumental tunes, which no doubt is why this movie became a favourite worldwide when it was released. It shows how the 1960s era was a time when the last great non - Rock Music tunes were composed, as Rock Music superseded all previous genres. Great tune & great movie 👍👍👍✔️✔️✔️.
This has all the elements of the classic cat and mouse chase relationship with the percussion and saxophone. This track is full of runs. Very pink panther like. One of my favorite scores.

This is an orchestra made up of recording session musicians in Los Angeles. They're all freelance and assembled to play a score only a few days to weeks ahead of time. Dan Higgins, who plays the alto sax solos throughout, is a friend of mine and has told me that this main title cue was done in 6 takes and sight read on the day of the recording session. All of the players are ace sight readers, which means that they're so good they can play the music with no practice on the day of the performance. Due to the nature of film scoring sessions, they need to be that good. Time in the studio costs thousands of dollars and not a moment of it can be spent doing what would ultimately waste the time of the filmmakers/scoring team.
