I know a lot about Disney, but I didn't know the history of the Swan & Dolphin. I always wondered why those two were located where they were, yet not owned by WDW. Thanks!
Eisner gets so much flack, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then-- and I have to give the man credit for the acorns that he did gather. Squirrel analogy over.
Honestly love Disney rob I wanna be an imagineer myself I would love to keep hearing these think I come up with ideas right now for stuff to pitch if I get a job at Disney. I have already designed a toy story land in my Disney a sketch book. I am only 15 love this channel love what u do keep doin it
We old-timers called it Swalphin after the design was decided. It was uniformly hated, and it probably still suffers today. Eisner and Tishman, thanks.
This new series is really good keep it up. I always comment as soon as I see a new video so i hope you realize you have fans that watch every time you upload. Please keep making videos :)
Wow! Thanks for that. I knew I had read somewhere long ago about those two hotels being different than the other WDW Resorts, but didn't know all of that. Very good series :)
It's funny speaking of the Grand floridian the construction company I'm with got choose to re - do all the major suites at that hotel which not many companies get the opportunity to get that so soon we will start refurbish the big suite rooms like the Walt suite and so on
I always loved the designs of the Swan and Dolphin, but seriously think that huge square in the Dolphin should have been TILTED, more like a diamond, which would have been MUCH prettier, with those shells cascading from the bottom tip.
Just gonna make a quick correction: You said Robert Graves a few times in the later part of the video when I think you meant to say Michael Graves. Just wanted to point it out.
Punk Rocker Oh my, I did! I merged them in my mind into the uber-architech! Thanks for pointing that out! I just added an annotation correcting myself.
The Swan and Dolphin look out of place from the outside and from the in, it looks Dingy and shouldn't be at Disney World. The thing is, Disney has made heaps of amazingly themed resorts and hotels, but they still don't have a regular hotel, that can only be described as modern, smart and normal - this is a massive market, people who want to pay a little less but don't want to be off Disney property(it may cost a little more than hotels outside Disney, as it would be very well made still, and have extras like buses and characters buffets(as it is of course still a Disney hotel, so still needs magic), but the cost would be much less than the themed hotels within Disney.
Ben Jacobs the music resorts r the same price as most hotels outside of the premise but I get what you mean I remember staying in Kissimmee with my family to save money so like a tiny motel Disney or simple cabins would be nice

I can't wait to see what comes next in the series!!! A suggestion of mine is an episode about ride concepts that were never built.
another great series rob you never disappoint.

You said "Robert Graves" twice for Michael Graves.

So that's why the Swan and Dolphin hotels always seem a bit out of place
Omg they are so out of place. Agree 100%.
This looks like a promising series. Nice work! also the swan and dolphin are one of my family's favorite resorts! it's really nice!

Do a video on the value resorts.
love the history of the Disney parks always thought the swan and dolphin was kinda not the same feeling as other Disney mod and deluxe resorts
Omg baby Rob!
And that Eisner Mickey hotel idea seemed a little out there even for him 👀
the colossus of Mickey..
Michael graves, not Robert graves
Ah wow so informative. I figured something weird like this happened with those two hotels.
Ugh... that damn cake castle. What an eyesore that was. Thank god it was just a temporary overlay.
i love your channel, man! thanks!
This is going to be a good series!
Michael Graves also designed the Post Office in Celebration.
Xamnosidda and the casting center

This is a cool series. Keep it up. :)
Super interesting, thanks for sharing!
But, those dolphin statues look like ordinary fish to me. :p
I actually recently made a video all about why they look like fish! ruclips.net/video/rj0Q6EIdjRM/видео.html
Hey Rob, I know this is an older video but how does the resently revealed third proposed hotel relate to their working history?
I always loved the designs of the Swan and Dolphin, but seriously think that huge square in the Dolphin should have been TILTED, more like a diamond, which would have been MUCH prettier, with those shells cascading from the bottom tip.
Do a D out d you know about PUSH or the hat box ghost
did Rob just watch I, Claudius? or Rg's books on mythology?
Nice video :)
Making extra hours available to on site guests only was a smart move.
Ironically, The Dolphin and The Swan are now Marriott hotels.
do a did you know Disney tricks example on main street with the vinela smell

That's how we ended up with 2 of at least 3 non-disney hotels on Disney. That's interesting.
What about the other?
nice
Intresting Fact Starwood Resorts is now Owned by Marriott.

Try the Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels. Not exactly DISNEY hotels, but you've got buss access from DisneySprings so you do get the transport.
Too bad they can't change how they look now to match more of the Yacht/Beach/Boardwalk feel.
Did you know his name is Michael Graves? Not Robert?
