It seems like both parks are becoming diluted with there original visions. Disney being about "imagineering" and Universal about the movie business, but with the addition of video game land, marvel characters, star wars, tv themes etc etc they're basically both the same thing. But Disney still feels Disney, and Universal feels like Universal.
GOTG will not likely be a thrill ride... it is described as a family coaster. Also, Star Wars does not look thrilling it is literally just a souped up Disney simulator & trackless darkride.
Legolas I feel like they’re only doing that at the moment to keep the parks fresh whilst they put most of the efforts into Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. Now Toy Story Land is open and Galaxy’s Edge opens next year, creativity will soar. On top of that, they’ve announced a €2bill expansion of Walt Disney Studios (one of the parks in Paris) so a lot of resources are dedicated to that.
I'm a former attractions attendant at Universal and I can say Universal's recent rides haven't been all that great, like kong and fast. They're simulators and it's trash, but I'm hoping the new Potter coaster can add much more. Idk about Disney though, but I know they have a few good rides, not as good with Universal though.
the feud start earlier than the parks walt lost the rights to oswald the lucky rabbit and everything he had to universal when he was basically starting off... if it wasn't for the lost of Oswald walt would have never started the disney company as we know it now
+missyvelez While Universal did own Oswald, I don't know if it's fair to say that a rivalry started there. For one, Disney didn't lose the rights as much as he chose to sell them to Universal. He definitely regretted it, but it wasn't due to any wrongdoing on Universal's part. Ultimately it was one man, Charles Mintz, who turned on Disney and hired out his animators to start his own studio (Winkler/Mintz Studio) to produce Oswald cartoons. Even then Walt supposedly spoke highly of Mintz after the fact, and became good friends with Walter Lantz, the man who eventually took over making Oswald cartoons after Mintz stopped.
Most people that go to Orlando visit both parks. I do and think disney has more attractions and is really awesome but universal is definitely more a park for those who want thrill. I think that disney still needs to improve on there thrill aspect but they do have some really good thrills such as tower of terror, rock n roller coaster, space mountain and etc. So if disney had more thrills it would bring in more visitors. I want to know have you ever been to Universal? And if so... What did you think of it? Thanks Rob and have a magical day! :)
Well the good thing is right now Disney is making an Avitar world in animal kingdom so that the reason they are raising the prices that's what I hear on Florida news
Camlax1081 having been to both I basically 100% agree, aside from the part where you said Disney needs more thrill rides. I do admit they could use a bit more thrills in their parks but you have to keep in mind that a park like universal is for older people. My opinion on it is that Disney is a park made to take your kids to and to have fun at even if you are a bit older, but universal is more for the people that know that movies are put on a set. (Basically just an older audience is expected) so thrills for Disney aren't as important as putting on the "magic" show and thought
I used to visit both parks but now that I'm in my mid 60s, we only do Disney since their parks are more conducive to us older folks who are no longer able to ride the roller coasters and other thrill rides due to medical and mobility issues.
Personally, even though I love them both I'm gonna have to say that I'm #TeamDisney just because I feel like too many of Universal's latest rides are simulators where you put on 3D glasses, get in a car, look at a screen and then move on to the next room. Both of the big Wizarding World rides, Transformers and King Kong, for example, are like this and it just across as though Universal is trying to produce more rides faster but aren't putting too much creativity into how they immerse the audience- which is what a theme park should do best. I admit I can see the appeal from a business perspective, but from a visitor's perspective it loses its charm after the first few rounds. Also I tend to get sick on most of Universal's thriller rides due to how intense they can be, so I also favor Disney for being able to strike the balance of being able to provide enough thrill without making me have to sit down afterwards.
forbidden Journey is more than just sitting in a chair watching a movie though. It's not all screens. There's physical sets and animatronics too... in fact I think there might be more sets and animations then there are screens in that ride. people just hate screens. but try to make a convincing ride where you follow Harry Potter and friends flying over the Scottish countryside while being chased by a flying dragon without a screen. some things just can't be pulled off without resorting to screens. It's like CGI in films, you shouldn't rely exclusively on it, but it's there for the things that can't be achieved other wise. together it's a very effective ride. you aren't just on a simulator, you are in a dark ride moving on a track, but the ride is designed to keep your focal point away from the track to convince you that you're "flying" through the scenes. the range of motion is so broad, there are parts where you'll be tilted on your back or towards the ground to specific focal points. it's like the next gen omnimover. it's not a simple simulator ride at all. I love both Disney and Universal and don't prefer one over the other because I see them as different experiences.
Wizarding World isn't just 3-D rides though. I'm not certain about what's been added since the Diagon Alley expansion opened, but I know they had a dragon-themed rollercoaster when I was there back in 2011. Though in general, I feel like Wizarding World of Harry Potter isn't anywhere near as enjoyable if you aren't a Harry Potter nerd. Most of it's charm is that it's the closest you can get to the wizarding world in the series being real.
Totally agree. I even had to explain this to my friends with Universal passes. However, I feel the Harry Potter ride is actually a massive improvement. It is still simulated motion and relies on a screen (thankfully no 3D!) but there are practical effects and animatronics, too. More of this please, Universal!
Matthew Calero yeah same I agree 💯 percent the food at universal is bad and its really expensive too! Most food at Disney and the rides are creative and nice usually the pricey food at DL or WDW is the character dining witch is really good but yeah I agree!
I have to go with #TeamDisney as well, since the elements of the parks that are NOT Disney-themed were acquired before or shortly afterwards. coughJamesCameron'sAvatarcough
Having been to both Disney World and Universal Florida multiple times - Disney does the park experience much better. Lines at Universal are ALWAYS far too long (so now they have their "Express Pass" for an additional fee). Universals rides tend to be more ambitious in scope and execution than Disney - but they also seem to break down more often. By the end of a day in a park, Universal always feels like it was a bit of a chore (especially after the LOOONNNGGGG hike back to the car), whereas Disney makes one tired but happy. They are both not-to-be missed, but totally different experiences.
To my mind, Universal's greatest selling point over Disney World is that if you stay on-site, everything's really close. If you stay at the mid-level resorts, those water taxis can get you over to the park entrances in just a few minutes, and you can be completely casual about popping over there--at Disney, it's more like planning a work commute, because the distances are so vast. Though they have bigger thrills, the theming and total experience of the Universal rides isn't up to Disney's level, *except* for the Harry Potter areas--they actually beat Disney at Disney's game. It's entirely possible, of course, that Pandora and Star Wars Land will up the ante again.
Ummmm Yes. Over 2 hours for Spiderman. Over 2 hours for MIB. Many attractions a hour or more. I' don't know when you are going or what timezone your watch is in, but I think you've been driving a DeLorean at 88 MPH. The lines are most certainly LONG and SLOW. I'm not necessarily knocking the Express Pass system. They have to charge something for it or it everyone would get one and then it would be totally useless. But better ride design - something to do while waiting in line (pre-show, the in-line video games, like Space Mountain...) would help immensely .
Historically, weekends are better (especially at holidays and spring break) due to people traveling to and from on the weekends and spending mid-week at the parks.
with the express pass, the longest line I had to wait for was King Kong at like 10 minutes. all the lines were extremely short with the pass and I went to every ride in studios and islands of adventures. now volcano bay is another story since you have to reserve times on the cool watch they give u all though it didn't bother me since I just went to one of the two rivers or the wave pool meanwhile waiting for my ride or sometimes they had ride now for the rides with less people going to them. with express it took me one day to go to everything in studios and one day to go to everything in islands of adventures. it took me 2 days to go to everything in volcano bay due to having to reserve times and not having the option for express. that being said the longest I had to wait on a line once my watch said ride now in volcano bay was 20 minutes for the plunge where you go into one of the 3 pod trap doors on top of the volcano. I'm talking about the red which is the fastest out of the 3 and probably the most popular attraction of the water park
Brian Dormer Been to universal studios Hollywood(twice),universal Orlando (twice) disneyland, disney world, six flags magic mountain, knots berry farm and cedar point (countless). Cedar point is the best theme park in the world. They win best theme park almost every year. 16 years in a row too.
This was a great video rob. I'm a theme park enthusiast as you can tell and I've been recently thinking about doing fact videos to possibly boost viewers to my channel. I'm thinking of doing a universal vs Disney video using some of the facts you said here. With credit of course.
Hi Rob! Great Job on you're videos their amazing! I just have one question: Does the minecraft disney world server work for the pocket edition or only the pc? Thank you! Keep up the great work:)
100% Universal for our family; much better rides and atmosphere. The only park that we thought could compete was Animal kingdom due to Flight of passage which was superb but not "wait in line for another three hours" superb so we only tried it once. Magic kingdom is good for little ones but even our youngest daughter age 7 seems to have outgrown it, and at the minute there are only four rides at Hollywood studios. We found that Disney was always rammed full where as we didn't seem to queue half as long at Universal. If we go back we'd happy stay a shorter time and stick to Universal.
I find the Disney/Universal experiences now complement each other. I don’t think Universal would be as viable alone as a international destination point, but together they complete a “week” vacation plan perfectly.
We only went to Universal one time, and it was very shortly after they opened (had to be 90 or 91) and that experience was 98% misery. Several rides weren't working at all, we were in line for E.T. close to two hours, and the only ride any of us actually liked afterward was the Back to the Future ride, which to further the ideas that someone was stealing from someone there, was absolutely no different than Star Tours or Body Wars (only, I really preferred that ride to either of the others, and THAT'S the one they got rid of??). It took a long time, MANY years, before I even considered reports that they'd turned things around there seriously enough that, if I were in Orlando with friends, I'd even consider going back there. THAT'S how miserable it was around opening. (There's also the fact that no one in my family then, or really any too many of my close relatives now, aren't particularly into thrill rides. Friends are a different story--they all love coasters and drops and the like. I like rides that keep my stomach and heart out of my throat.) But I mean, for well over a decade and a half my parents and I would rather have gone back to the house of mirrors that we went to back in the late 80s or minigolfing or something than try and step foot in Universal again. Lasting damage.
Universal did get what they asked for when building so close. Not just for the fact Disney would compete with them, but they would not get nearly as much business as they could get. Either way, Universal asked for it.
Some of the things I hate about universal is the food and the customer service me and my fam bought tickets but we had to cancel because of bad weather we called them saying that we couldn’t come and wanted our money back and they said no same thing happed at DL cud were I live there’s some really bad weather and thankfully we could reschedule our trip with out threatening the workers so yeah#TeamDisney all the way!
I'm a big fan of both parks, however I've noticed that both are falling apart. Universal: Too many "4-D simulators" and not much of "anything else" Disney: Sufferer of extreme franchise abuse/exploiting, meanwhile making content that leaves so much to be desired. It's basically pick your poison. Don't get me wrong, I love both, but they do have their problems (Dear Disney Zealots, not everything Disney does right, I can name a few examples right off the top of my head)
Nocturne Fexy universal is building less 4d and more actual rides, look at Hagrid and he new coming Jurassic Park Ride, which is a travel coaster like Hagrids
Hey Rob, it was not Cineplex Odeon that Universal teamed up with it was The Rank Organization Dash the owner of Cineplex Odeon, Hard Rock Cafe, color by deluxe, and the London based Pinewood (J Arthur Rank) studios
Also wayyy before any of this before Disney was a company Walt Disney was an animator for Universal created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Which he lost rights to when he left to start Disney this is why he came up with Micky Mouse. In recent years however Oswald has been moved back to Disney
Universal Studios and Universal's Island of Adventure is awesome. I also love EPCOT, I'm really not sure if I prefer that to Universal's parks or not, I think I might like EPCOT more just due to the variety of restraunts and shops. Universal has much better rides though. I definitely prefer Universal's parks to Disney's other parks though. Animal Kingdom has gotten pretty good since Pandora opened though.
Do they take shots at disney on the Florida backlot tour like they do in Hollywood? Also on Jurassic park in hollywood, towards the end of the ride, there's a damaged ride raft with Mickey ears floating next to it. Clearly another shot at disney.
Just a fun little bonus to the Disney vs Universal history for you Rob is that back when Walt has Oswald the Rabbit he made them for Universal. After finding that he didn't own the rights to Oswald due to his contract with Universal Walt left and created Mickey Mouse with his animators. However he would for the rest of his life felt that Universal was out to get him and his studio. He even believed that Universal lobbied against him to build Disneyland in Burbank and have a train that would go from the studio to Griffith Park.
Interesting video for me personally as my parents took me to Disney-MGM on May 1st 1989. It was a bit rubbish, to be honest. There was little information about what was operational or not, and after sitting for about half an hour in the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular while the actors stood around talking about stuff, we realised that they genuinely were just still rehearsing and there was no show! The backlot tour was fun initially, but then it seemed to just peter out into a long-drawn out walk around nothing much happening. It was much better when we went back in August that year - I think Star Tours may have opened for previews by then, as well. We went to Universal a few months after it opened, and the most anticipated ride for me was the Jaws ride. By the time we last visited both of these parks in 1993, they still hadn't got the Jaws ride working!
As a consumer I see no reason to pick a "team". We go there for fun and choose our parks depending on what we are looking for. Magic Kingdom and Epcot are always good. On thrill ride day it is hands down Islands of Adventure (best park in Orlando). For animal parks we have Animal Kingdom and Busch Gardens (Tampa) - some years we do one of them, some years we do both. Worst park is easily - Disney MGM. I have not been back since they changed their name, but it was so bad I have no desire to go back. Universal was pretty good, but the whole "studio tour" bit gets old quickly. I preferred Universal in Hollywood. I do appreciate the fact that Islands Of Adventure made Disney step up their game. The competition has been good for us consumers. 😀
The rivalry is crazy to think about because I can't imagine one park and company without the other. I've always felt like they've offered different experiences for consumers, both inside and outside of their park. When my parents took me to Orlando as a kid in 2000, 2004 and 2006, we visited all the parks, and I loved all of them. I can't even imagine another trip to Orlando without seeing both Universal and Disney, or I'll feel that I've missed out!
People always say that Disney is for the eyes and universal is for the thrills. Universal has mastered and perfected their details and creativeness, to the point where they have progressed in a few years, where as Disney has had to work their way up. I think universal is much more ambitious, flexible, and out of the box with their creativeness and it pays off. Where Disney is much more simple and cookie cutter. Universal these past years have been running circles around disneys parks.
Lucas Gonzalez How has Universal progressed better? Majority of their rides include screens & 3d glasses. Same as their super old terminator ride. They don't have a single unique ride & their new rides, i.e. Kong & Jimmy Fallon are horrible.
+Alright let's do this I honestly don't know. My friend who works for Disney told me that. Disney didn't sell anyone the rites or anything like that though.
Disney is good for Nostalgia but has just stalled over the years...nothing exciting...nothing revolutionary....UNIVERSAL is just AMAZING!!! and keeps getting better and better!
I just went to universal 2 days ago, the employees were extremely unfriendly, and for a slow day, pretty rushing with the guests. Also Universal needs to stop using 3D with a splash of water or a bit of fire in their rides and the buggy ridden should be spiderman exclusive. I loved transformers, that one actually made you feel a part of the ride, but the movies did that already , the resolution of the 3D needs a major update too. Disney actually keeps you interested and it feels adventurous, universal you are supposed to be in a land, but immersion might feel more real for young children. Disney has more to offer and the customer service is phenomenal any time the family needs something. Ome major thing I can really respect universal for, their unforced sales. Disney manipulates you with the senses, I didnt walk into universal smelling cinnamon. Everybody working at universal seriously looked like they hated their lives and that Disney turned their application away. Universal is very much more of an adult theme attraction, Disney just has Epcot to offer for the adults to enjoy most with little of big shot rides. Universal removing jaws was a mistake, it needed a real non coaster water ride. As for character meets. Optimus prime was actually pretty cool. It seems universal is protective but very relaxed about their costume performers, Disney has to be uptight about cast members . As for special events, I hear halloween horror at universal is phenomenal and it makes up for the usual park activity, same with its marti gras, Disney's holiday parties especially halloween are wholesome. I have more trips to universal planned soon to help me warm up as far as my favorites VS eachother Disney Pandora Flight of Passage rivals Kong very very close. Universal wins the Coaster challenge
Thanks Rob, good info! The one aspect where I feel Universal beats Disney, is it's Express Pass. We do both parks every year and the Express Pass puts Disney's FP to shame. I can go on all the rides except some Harry Potter attractions and saves so much of our valued vacation time. We don't have to choose which one main attraction to get on our FP and we can sleep in if needed. Disney World is still way better, but the Express Pass is much better.
With universal newscast being stuck in an endless time loop of hiatuses, there aren't that any dedicated universal fan RUclips channels (that I know of)
An orchestra playing my favorite song from my favorite movie is running in the background. I won't say the name so RUclips doesn't take the video down, but it's definitely Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.
I remember going on a road trip with my parents to Florida in 94. We were going to ride universal studios and Disney world. Once we hit the Florida state line I remember seeing dozens of incredible billboards for Universal and None for Disney world. We went again the next year and Disney added one or two but that was all
I was really impressed with Universal’s Islands Of Adventure back in 1999. They had some cutting edge stuff to the time, especially the Spider-Man ride.
Because it's a series about Disney history, so the context of the video is primarily framed around Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando with ,yes, a focus on Disney since it's a Disney fan channel.
At universal, I went to Harry Potter land when it first opened. I was young and Harry Potter was my life. But Im pretty large, I always have been. I go to universal as a kid to try and ride forbidden journey. I can't fit on the ride. Im asked to leave and I cry because I was so embarrassed. No one did or said anything. At Disney, I went as an adult, still very large in size, I went to ride flight of passage with my fast pass. I couldn't fit. This is the only ride at Disney that I can't fit on. I'm bummed but it's not too bad. A cast member apologized and gave me and my party 3 free fast passes. Disney always wins in my book.
Did you know that Pandora at Walt Disney World was supposed to be something else? Well there was (quote "was") going to be a mythical aspect of Animal Kingdom, but the workers who designed and was apart of the building process got fired. Reason being due to the budget it would cost to create that part of the park. So the people who were laid off by Disney, worked with Universal on Islands of Adventure. They used the almost same designs to make the mystical part of the theme park next to what will later be Wizarding World.
I love both! Have been to both and had great experiences! But for me, I would choose Disney. I love how the parks have many variety and they have things for all ages! People just say that Universal has more thrill rides than Disney and is more adult. Well, Universal has many things for kids as well, such as the Barney show, Dr Suess rides, Minions, Curious George, etc. Disney has many thrills like Expedition Everest, Rockin Roller Coaster, Test Track, Flight of Passage, etc. Disney is a lot more creative when it comes to their rides. Universal has too many simulation rides which can lead to people getting nauseous. But they have great rides like ET, Hulk and the Harry Potter rides. Disney is also boosting up their thrill rides, adding two roller coasters in 2021 which are Tron and Guardians Of The Galaxy. Star Wars or Harry Potter?? I don't know, since I only been to Harry Potter land and absolutely loved it! But like I said, I love both but Disney feels more magical and its geared for everybody, not just "little kids".
Let's all not forget, the rivalry goes deeper than just the theme parks. Back when Walt Disney was working for Universal Studios, along with Ub Iwerks, Charles Mintz bought half his staff from under him, threatening to take away Disney's character, Oswald if he didn't accept Mintz's budget cut. Disney refused and left, leaving behind Oswald, creating a new character and started a new studio. And the rest is history.
Lita Coppola But, there is a Disney in Tokyo... Btw *cough* universal *cough* for *cough life. And don’t even respond because I don’t want to argue, I have my opinion you have yours...
I worked at Universal Studios Tour in Hollywood in the early 80's. They did sell a guide book that mentioned a studio to be built in Orlando. I think if Disney never built their studio Universal never would have built theirs.
Even though a paying customer at universal isn't a paying customer at Disney, and vice versa, I would argue the proximity of the parks is a win for both since both draw customers to the Orlando area. Regardless, having grown up about an hour from Orlando, it was definitely a win for me.
You say that if it weren’t for the rivalry with Universal, Disney wouldn’t have added loads of things. That’s correct, but now to win the battle, both are using more IP based lands and rides. Some of these are great, but they are sacrificing the central theming of the different parks for many - such as adding Guardians in Epcot for an extra thrill. If Universal weren’t there, Disney would probably be smaller than it is today, but the stuff there would probably be more original and more thematically appropriate.
I adore Disney and have always been a huge fan but I also agree that Universal is pretty up there too. In regards to which one i like better its hard to answer. Disney is a magical place, everyone's aware of that, the over experience is really enjoyable and you're on a constant story at the parks, its magical. But i do have to say that when it comes to RIDES Universal does them WAY better, they just feel more elaborate, intricate and of higher budget. (im also not an engeneer so i dont know)
Originally, Disney and Universal weren't competitive at all...they actually worked with each other at times-for instance, it was Bob Gurr who created the original King Kong for Universal Hollywood (before it burned down in 2008)...I tend to believe when Disney brought Eisner in, that's when all this competition started...there's a great book called "Universal vs Disney" by Sam Gennawey, and he talks about both companies' histories, including one story where, for a time in the 70s, Universal almost bought Disney
Oh, you meant the theme parks. I thought you meant about their overall rivalry, starting with when they stole Oswald back in the late 1920s. Ah well, still a good video!
Noooooo!!!!!! I hope as I do love the over whelming feeling you get when you see the both the train and water rushing towards you...and I love that wet plastic and chlorine smell from that part of the Back Lot Tour.If they wann got rid of anything useless from the tour, they need to get rid of Westeria Lane!NOTHING HAPPENS on that port at all and they're just empty houses anyways!
If i’m going to be honest, both parks are equally well thought of and well done. Yeah, Universal might not have the exact tools it needs to be like Disney, and they might not have the most immersive attractions and lands. But what matters, is that both companies do well with their business, and have their ways to satisfy their customers. Therefore, both are equally good.
The clearer hidden Mickey is the one at Hollywood Studios, though it's been partially erased by changes in the park's layout. When it first opened, the structures and landscaping in the central plaza and Echo Lake areas made a colossal Mickey face when viewed from the air. Echo Lake was one ear, the other was partially painted on a roof (since removed); the Chinese Theatre entrance was his mouth.
Matt McIrvin you're so right! I just google mapped it and you can still clearly see the eyes and the nose and the head shape, all it's missing is the left ear. I did not know this, thanks for the info.
There are some other giant Mickeys in the area you can see if you nose around in Google Maps: a pond by the former Walt Disney World Speedway (so obvious it doesn't really count as hidden), and a Mickey-shaped forest somewhere off property (I forget the exact location).
#TeamDisney. I've never been to Universal but don't plan to because Disney has better movies and characters, so the experience you get would be better. Plus, Disney is a lot bigger so more room for more stuff to be built. And from what I've seen of Universal, Disney looks a lot better.
They are really good parks, but it actually about your taste of rides and age. If your young and do mostly calm rides and some thrill rides,go to Disney world If your older and looking for intense rides,go to Universal
Honestly both parks are great but i have to be #teamdisney BECAUSE… i grew up with it, but i love both parks. They are both huge parks and i wish people could just realize they are both great and not compare them. They both have amazing theming and have so much work. Don't compare them…love them both!
If the Wizarding World of Harry Potter sections in the Universal Parks weren’t successful it’s likely we wouldn’t have seen any of the single IP themed areas at Disney. Theming an entire section of a park was a very risky thing that just happened to work out wonderfully.
When I worked at WDW as a dcp, I tried to get a Florida Resident Annual Pass from Universal and almost didn't get one because the universal college intern was convinced I wouldn't let them get one.
As a Male former cast member, Did you know... Prior to the opening of Universal Male Cast Member, no matter your role were not allowed to have Facial Hair. It was said that Walt him self said no facial hair, even though sported a mustache. The though is that facial hair projected an unseemly Image. Then Universal open and they had no such policy. Many of the Male Service Technicians Jump ship and went to Universal. Disney wanted to know why. Facial Hair as part of self expression came up. Disney came to a Compromise of Sorts. Men could sport well groomed mustaches, but no beards. You also had to grow the Mustache out while on vacation, you could not present with Stubble or thin mustaches. Many a time did several of my manager make me go back stage to shave.
The atmosphere at Universal is nothing like Disneyland. Disneyland is extremely well themed and you feel like you're in an entirely different place than Anaheim California. Universal just looks like some crappy movie set, completely devoid of beautiful theming.
Pandora s theming is just as good as diagonal alley and in some ways better. I like universal but it took them many years to even get theming down. The 90s and 2000s were not good for universal until potter came around. Star Wars is going to blow away anything universal currently has.
Anybody who says Universal is better than Disney is out of their mind. Universal is overpriced, their food is subpar (try getting something good that doesn't come with fries), they don't have a single show or parade that can compete with Disney, & all of their rides other than their couple of rollercoasters are based around screens.
I don't go to a theme park for the costume characters or the company that owns it, I go for the rides, and the fact remains that in Magic Kingdom, the rides are more... family friendly. Only one roller coaster and not one inversion. Not one ride that is really exclusively for "big kids". On the other hand, Universal Islands of Adventure do have those thrill options. Universal Studios, though, is mostly simulators.
Both parks do their own thing. If you want thrills and some of the best rides in the world it’s universal. If you want the ultimate family experience and best kids rides ever built it’s Disney
I always think of them as fighting parents and I'm the kid. "Don't fight, I love you both the same!"
cijmoalbal universal is crap because of the minions
No
@@brianstabile165 so? One ride doesn’t mean all of it is bad
I'm not on either team, because both of them need to step it up. Disney needs more thrill, Universal needs more creativity.
Emily Rivera Disney is going to be adding more thrill with Star Wars and Guardians as well as Tron
GOTG will not likely be a thrill ride... it is described as a family coaster. Also, Star Wars does not look thrilling it is literally just a souped up Disney simulator & trackless darkride.
hatsune memeku no disney is the one that needs more creativity since they keep turning their original rides into crash grabs.
Oswald was the true start of their rivarly
the feud start earlier than the parks walt lost the rights to oswald the lucky rabbit and everything he had to universal when he was basically starting off... if it wasn't for the lost of Oswald walt would have never started the disney company as we know it now
+missyvelez While Universal did own Oswald, I don't know if it's fair to say that a rivalry started there.
Not to mention Universal was already distributing Oswald cartoons when Walt Disney was making them.
Umm wait did I ask for your opinion ugh ya, no - no I didn't
Camlax1081 having been to both I basically 100% agree, aside from the part where you said Disney needs more thrill rides. I do admit they could use a bit more thrills in their parks but you have to keep in mind that a park like universal is for older people. My opinion on it is that Disney is a park made to take your kids to and to have fun at even if you are a bit older, but universal is more for the people that know that movies are put on a set. (Basically just an older audience is expected) so thrills for Disney aren't as important as putting on the "magic" show and thought
Camlax1081 also now with the big Harry Potter attraction, it definitely brought a lot more attention in recent years compared to disney
I like the massivness of Disney compared to how small Universal is.
I love your Disney programs...you are such a talented host!!
Disney World!
6:20 “three stound sages”
Universal did get what they asked for when building so close. Not just for the fact Disney would compete with them, but they would not get nearly as much business as they could get. Either way, Universal asked for it.
Well. Since the tour at Disney's Hollywood Studios is shut down. Universal might do something in the future....... Not the near future. Just saying.
Universal Rules also does Jurassic Park and World
Pales in comparison to the Disney resorts.
Now you get me!!!!!
I'm a big fan of both parks, however I've noticed that both are falling apart.
Universal: Too many "4-D simulators" and not much of "anything else"
Disney: Sufferer of extreme franchise abuse/exploiting, meanwhile making content that leaves so much to be desired.
It's basically pick your poison. Don't get me wrong, I love both, but they do have their problems (Dear Disney Zealots, not everything Disney does right, I can name a few examples right off the top of my head)
This one should be pinned.
#TeamUniversal less people so less time in lines
Da flack when I go to Disney...The lines are so small lmao #TeamDisney
less rides, worst rides #TeamDisney (although i still love universal)
Can you make the video about why Hollywood Studios isn't called MGM Studios and about the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
I love the my fair lady overture playing in the back! Great taste in music!
Do they take shots at disney on the Florida backlot tour like they do in Hollywood? Also on Jurassic park in hollywood, towards the end of the ride, there's a damaged ride raft with Mickey ears floating next to it. Clearly another shot at disney.
You deserve a bigger following... this is pretty good content. :) Informational videos are always amazing.
Thanks!
Nice Video Rob!
Team Disney forever! I only go to Universal for WWoHP tbh
HaleyDoll18 same
Wizardly world of harry potter?
100% agree with you
Lucas Gonzalez How has Universal progressed better? Majority of their rides include screens & 3d glasses. Same as their super old terminator ride. They don't have a single unique ride & their new rides, i.e. Kong & Jimmy Fallon are horrible.
@Rob_Plays what type of Microphone do you use?
I think it is a Blue Yeti
you have a great voice and great info. But it would be a lot better with more pics to help keep people interested . good work though. and thank you
The catchphrase you like to end on makes me really happy. Just wanted to say so.
#TeamDisney :D I would only go to universal for harry potter...
Did you know that Disney in Tokyo isn't actually owned by Disney?
What? Who owns it?
+Alright let's do this I honestly don't know. My friend who works for Disney told me that. Disney didn't sell anyone the rites or anything like that though.
+Hannah Rose it's the same in Paris but now Disney owns like 80% of shares but they still charge the park to use Disney characters
Oriental Land Company
This might explain why there isn't a Tokyo Disney app like there is for the other parks like shanghai and Paris
Dude your Appartment is awesome have you ever done a tour?
Thanks! I have not but I assure you the coolest room is that office, so you guys are seeing the best of it!
Rob Plays thanks Rob and keep up the good work I love your videos
Disney is just Selfish asf.
Disney is good for Nostalgia but has just stalled over the years...nothing exciting...nothing revolutionary....UNIVERSAL is just AMAZING!!! and keeps getting better and better!
mlvc82 ohh but Disney is now in for a major facelift...new parks and new rides along with new restaurants and swimming parks being built n opening up
StarWars!!
Disney is better...hands down
Chicken Nuggets 🤣🤣🤣 all the rides were bang average most universal better rides
Chicken Nuggets hell no their rides suck universal rides are lit asf
Universal rides are too bland for me.... Disney for sure!!!
So... basically Disney's better
Universal has just gone to shit.
With universal newscast being stuck in an endless time loop of hiatuses, there aren't that any dedicated universal fan RUclips channels (that I know of)
Wow, that was very interesting! :) keep it up! :D
There is a really good book about this published by the company that does the Unofficial Guides books, called Universal Vs Disney
An orchestra playing my favorite song from my favorite movie is running in the background. I won't say the name so RUclips doesn't take the video down, but it's definitely Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.
Have you done a video about the Universal / Marvel contract and how that effects Disney now?
Disney sue them for having Marvel attractions...
Ah ha!So this is why we can see a pair of Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears in a destroyed Tram on the Universal Backlot Tour, huh??
Isn't there mouse ears on Jurassic Park by the wrecked jeep? (Where the two little dinosaurs are fighting over the popcorn box?)
In hollywood, they make jokes about disney on the tour and the ears are in the water by a wrecked raft towards the end.
I remember going on a road trip with my parents to Florida in 94. We were going to ride universal studios and Disney world. Once we hit the Florida state line I remember seeing dozens of incredible billboards for Universal and None for Disney world. We went again the next year and Disney added one or two but that was all
Lol the background music is a medley from My Fair Lady! Good choice
I was really impressed with Universal’s Islands Of Adventure back in 1999. They had some cutting edge stuff to the time, especially the Spider-Man ride.
Why did you not mention anything about the history of the studio tour at Hollywood?
Because this guy is biased towards Disney
Because it's a series about Disney history, so the context of the video is primarily framed around Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando with ,yes, a focus on Disney since it's a Disney fan channel.
As much as I love Universal Studios I will admit that they were kind of asking for it.
Rob plays that game can you make a video about the Reedy creek improvement district
nice use of My Fair Lady music
Very informative 👍🏻
8:35 Or, as Irving Berlin would say, "anything you can do, I can do better."
I'm still waiting for that thank you for watching
Let's all not forget, the rivalry goes deeper than just the theme parks. Back when Walt Disney was working for Universal Studios, along with Ub Iwerks, Charles Mintz bought half his staff from under him, threatening to take away Disney's character, Oswald if he didn't accept Mintz's budget cut. Disney refused and left, leaving behind Oswald, creating a new character and started a new studio. And the rest is history.
#TeamDisney it's a American tradition.
Lita Coppola But, there is a Disney in Tokyo... Btw *cough* universal *cough* for *cough life. And don’t even respond because I don’t want to argue, I have my opinion you have yours...
Wow, Disney really has always been a shitty uncaring company. The more you know.
Very Interesting!
Although,I do love the BACKLOT TOUR,their EARTH QUAKE portion should be updated as the models used look dated.
Sammy Lane they're getting rid of it I heard
It must be noted that 4 Stoundsages (6:19-6:21) is a lot, to be fair. :D
Did you know that if you look at Expedition Everest ride from the air the mountain and track make the shape of Mickey's head?
Rank Organization PLC was the 50% partner of Universal Studios. They also happen to have owned Hard Rock Cafe at that time.
Im watching this in the theme park area of orlando
#TeamDisney. I've never been to Universal but don't plan to because Disney has better movies and characters, so the experience you get would be better. Plus, Disney is a lot bigger so more room for more stuff to be built. And from what I've seen of Universal, Disney looks a lot better.
Why MGM became Hollywood studios and why MGM to start with?
#teamdisney
They are really good parks, but it actually about your taste of rides and age.
If your young and do mostly calm rides and some thrill rides,go to Disney world
If your older and looking for intense rides,go to Universal
Honestly both parks are great but i have to be #teamdisney BECAUSE… i grew up with it, but i love both parks. They are both huge parks and i wish people could just realize they are both great and not compare them. They both have amazing theming and have so much work. Don't compare them…love them both!
If the Wizarding World of Harry Potter sections in the Universal Parks weren’t successful it’s likely we wouldn’t have seen any of the single IP themed areas at Disney. Theming an entire section of a park was a very risky thing that just happened to work out wonderfully.
I'd say the best things about universal
Smaller space -> Less rides-> higher chance of re-ride ability->Less chance of missing out on anything.
Where is the video about Disney's MGM turning into Hollywood Studios?
#TeamUniversal
The atmosphere at Universal is nothing like Disneyland. Disneyland is extremely well themed and you feel like you're in an entirely different place than Anaheim California. Universal just looks like some crappy movie set, completely devoid of beautiful theming.
*cough* diagon alley *cough*
Pandora s theming is just as good as diagonal alley and in some ways better. I like universal but it took them many years to even get theming down. The 90s and 2000s were not good for universal until potter came around.
Star Wars is going to blow away anything universal currently has.
Anybody who says Universal is better than Disney is out of their mind. Universal is overpriced, their food is subpar (try getting something good that doesn't come with fries), they don't have a single show or parade that can compete with Disney, & all of their rides other than their couple of rollercoasters are based around screens.
@@agtrots Universal IS better.
Interesting.
It is Disney-MGM Studios, not Disney’s MGM Studios. Thanks for the video.
Hollywood Studios is a Disney park I would say is geared more for teens, considering they have Star Wars, and other thrill rides.
What would it be like if Disney and universal studios stopped being rivals and they built a theme park together
Both parks do their own thing. If you want thrills and some of the best rides in the world it’s universal. If you want the ultimate family experience and best kids rides ever built it’s Disney
