I want to thank you so much for this tutorial! But I’m surprised no one has mentioned how out of tune your guitar is. It’s in tune with itself and in E standard, but it’s not in A=440. I don’t know if the chorus is detuning everything but choruses normally don’t throw things off this much. Still, it was a very helpful resource.
I loved this song ever since that first video. I played along 40 years ago trying to get those shapes to no avail. But hey you totally nailed it. and you gave us three different alternatives. So cool what a great song. When you get it right it just resonates. Thank you for laying that out awesome lesson.
Bravo. :) Thanks for sharing this. Others in the future will appreciate this other than myself. Sting is one of my favorite singers. When my father was dying in the hospital I sang Englishman in New York to him, an impetus developing vocals. Great video. Enjoy you sharing your experience of discovering music like this to play....that's what it is all about, such beauty of experience in music. When the hair stands up on your arms or you get goose bumps or traverse musical conscious landscape that never loses novelty, magic. The alternate chords for chorus is great for a single musician playing it rather than the traditional chords at end of guitar. Cheers! :)
Love this song and so your tutorial, the best and more accurate I ever saw over here, thank you! PS: what also always amazed me about Sting it's the fact that being a bassint to be able to develop such guitar progressions like this or Fragile, he's really a great musician. Anyway, cheers!
Appreciate this video so very much. The chords eluded me for SO long. Appreciate your efforts to get them RIGHT! That's everything in the world of playing Sting's songs.
This is an incredible song. It’s in D minor. The arpeggios in the verses and the classic big chorus make it a superb composition. It’s still very like something by The Police, same guitar tone and phrasing. Even though he was solo by 1985 he retained some of his old bands motifs. It begs the question, did Sting coms up with most of the motifs Andy Summers played? King Of Pain, Every Breath? Etc? If Turtles was a Police album, would Fortress have the same guitar motifs? I can hear jazz in the verses, especially, Miles Davis modal era in the mid 60s. So What from Kind Of Blue could easily fit under the Fortress verse arpeggios. The chorus is straight forward rock. Amazing song all the same. Great demo and tuition thank you.
oooh I think you may be right. that sounds much closer. plus the last 2 chords are actually Sting-worthy intelligently nuanced so it would have to be those, right? Thanks for that!
In the chorus, it sounds like the second chord is D with an F# in the bass. Just add 2nd fret 6th string, mute the fifth string, fourth open, third string second fret, second string third fret and don't play the first string. Just my 2 cents. Could be wrong.
Thank you for breaking down this gorgeous song! It's a favorite of mine, and you taught it really well. Much appreciated!
You're welcome!

yep, I'll have to agree. I'm tuned to A440 and he's flat, but great tutorial anyway!
I always loved this tune, faked it for decades.. thank you!
You're the best man, you're amazing. Anything Sting is difficult and as usual you nailed it

This is a song I learned to play and fits pretty much the way you teach it.
Concerning the delay, I feel like it should be just 1 repeat.
I thought I had written about Summers but I had Slash on my brain!! Gomenasai!! Great Stuff!! TY, Doug!!
Did you mean Sting? I don't think that was Andy Summers playing on that record
@@12footchain I thought that it was Summers?? I guess I should check it out in depth. Thanks for the Lesson!!
@@12footchain I think I was watching Sped's lesson on YT and thought that was what I was replying to!! Sorry for all this crap!!
It was definitely Sting.

this is a great instructional video. Great taste in musician and music. Thx for posting
Well done. I've been playing for over 25 years, and those positions hurt my wrist. Im like, damn, I'm getting old.. .. ..
Fantastic lesson - thank you!!
The song is in G minor -> Eb Maj (lydian) ->E minor chorus which comes from the parallel Gmaj. Really unusual, but brilliant.
Appreciate this video so very much. The chords eluded me for SO long. Appreciate your efforts to get them RIGHT! That's everything in the world of playing Sting's songs.
i love this
Amazing lesson and playing, thanks for this video!👍😎

What are the chord tabs for the chorus outro going up the neck back to the verse chords?
Cm7-Dm7-Ebmaj7-Fadd9
Love your channel! If you get around to it, I’d love to see a lesson on Rolling Stones “It’s all over now.” Thanks!
Great job... that was NOT easy. Thanks
The last line of Chorus could go: Cm7-Dm7-Ebmaj7-Fadd9. Thoughts?
oooh I think you may be right. that sounds much closer. plus the last 2 chords are actually Sting-worthy intelligently nuanced so it would have to be those, right? Thanks for that!
Nice way to teach this wonderful song, although a little out of tone, what makes it a little confussing. Anyway ¡Chapó!
Some song. The chords, lyrics, theme etc. Thanks
I have to say, most tabs of this song on the internet are either dead wrong or don't get the part in full. Chapeus bas
It's impossible to learn to play it with you because you're not at 4:40

Are you in standard for sure??
Yeah thats in standard tuning
of walking on the mines i laid part..you can clearly see Sting play at 7th fret...try xx7810x xx999x. xx9810x. xx7810x
