In many of these vids, the dashcammers, though technically in the right for legal and insurance purposes, could have easily avoided an actual crash. I'm sure that you don't have footage sent to you, so much as you have mileage. I think it would be very instructive to show comparisons between similar events -- failures to merge, for example -- where a cammer refuses to slow down, or even speeds up, in order to keep from letting some bozo in front of them, forcing the collision to occur (e.g. ~8:45), versus one wherein the cammer practices good defensive driving (cussing OK -- road rage a big nope) and has a close call. Yeah, it would take some additional time and editing finesse, but it would certainly add an additional layer of instruction.

20:47 I don’t think the driver of this dash cam video was paying attention because from her right at that timestamp, you can see a black dot and that black dot is the woman in the wheelchair or the guy in the wheelchair, my eyesight is pretty bad and I was able to see the person in the wheelchair from the video. Yes that is incredibly stupid and completely dangerous for you to be on the highway if you don’t have reflectors on.

Anyway even if the other car stopped in front of the pedestrian considering how fast he was he would have hit it making the other car running over them. It was actually a really good thing the other car stopped way ahead. (but anyway there was another car between them that we see leave a bit after the pedestrain clear the road)
Plus if he can't stop there it mean he was either too fast, too close to the front car or not paying enough attention, 100% the cammer fault whatever the case.
Most accidents i ever see in those videos are caused by lack of attention to what happen around.

I'm starting to see a pattern here... A lot of these "slow/lazy" merge incidents could be avoided with either driver just deciding to de-escalate the situation. Listen. NO ONE enjoys traffic. Probably a lot less of a hassle to just let them merge than to prove it's "my spot" and deal with an accident/inconvenience/repairs, even if it isn't your fault... Just saying, you'll be pissed off for like an hour or two versus waiting for your car to get out of the shop for possibly weeks (Yes, the other guy is an asshole, but both parties can lower the temperature.) Queue jumpers and late mergers are still assholes, though... You are absolutely correct to feel that and KNOW that.
Go on, honk your horns, yell out your window, flash your high-beams, but assholes are gonna asshole. You can prove 'em wrong on a low-traffic street if you wanna get all legal on them and have the free-time to devote to it. Or you can just let those pricks merge, be pissed about it and bitch to your family or co-workers and not have to miss work, get a rental, or have to depreciate your car's value just to be right... Yeah, it sucks at the time, but I tried to be "right" once. Lost 3 weeks of my car that I loved, (and about 20% of the value) had to take almost 20 hours off of work, and was raising my blood pressure, bitching with insurance companies and having to get accident reports to them due to clerical issues (this was before dashcams and cell phones with cameras). A delay of 15 seconds to slam on the brakes to a halt, gather my wits, then accelerate again after grabbing the stuff that flew forward would have been better, in my eyes, now that I am 10 years past it.
Calm the "F" down Billy. All I'm saying. Driving angry benefits NO ONE. Especially not those that have to move over due to the accident you guys were involved in... one little tap can mean hundreds or more are delayed from their appointments, or getting to work on time, or missing a movie. Because you were right and had to prove it.
Sorry for the rant/dissertation, but I figured someone ought to say it.... It's sometimes better to be home without a police interaction than to be right and have a car in the shop...

She basically followed him in her car for a while, and he cut her off at some point, which resulted in that video. According to her, her daughter (the one in black doing the high pitched screaming and hanging out the window) has mental issues and was wound up by the situation.

But let's have some sympathy for the daughter rather that insulting her? I didn't say mentally slow, I said mental issues; i.e. probably doesn't handle stress well. I absolutely do believe she has some kind of mental issue (mentally stable people don't generally behave that way, even when stressed out), and I can only imagine it is made worse or caused by the behavior of her mother. That's not her fault, and calling her nasty and a freak is kinda despicable.

There are exceptions to it being the fault of the person behind (car in front reverses, or pulls suddenly into your lane then slams on brakes, etc). None of that applies here - car in front stopped correctly because there was a pedestrian crossing, with pedestrians on it. Watching the video for the first time I anticipated the car in front stopping because I could see the pedestrians. That said, I personally believe anyone over 65 who has cognitive decline or has a medical condition which may impair their ability to drive should be required to complete a driving test (covered by the government) with an examiner to ensure they are driving safely and defensively. Too many innocent people are killed every year because a senior was unfit to drive. Until our traffic laws have serious consequences with a zero level of tolerance, we’ll continue to see drivers ignore their responsibility to drive safely. Although auto makers continue to add or improve safety features, someone needs to develop a tamper proof device that monitors how the driver is operating the vehicle and applies an automatic fine following consecutive violations. Or, you remove the driver and have antonymous driving. Cheers.

I know someone who has been driving for about 70 years. Just think of all the new laws that have passed since she got her license! This would both provide revenue to the states and educate people on the newest laws and hopefully weed out some of the incompetent drivers without being prejudicial to any group of people. 58:13 Sure the driver that rear-ended you gets the blame but this is actually your fault. Don't "be nice" and stop in the middle of the road to let people go when your lane is the right of way. YOU broke the rules and behaved unpredictably instead of just continuing straight like EVERYBODY expected you to do. That light you refer to was a block away and was green before you would have ever gotten to it. OBEY THE RULES. The whole reason for them is so that others can reasonably predict behaviors of other vehicles.

Hard to put the fault for this accident on the cammer since the guy behind should be paying attention but i really really want to. The cammer IS doing something hazardous and totally unpredictable. He is trying to "be nice" and let someone else go but really you are just confusing people. You're not turning, you're not at a stop sign or a light so you shouldn't be stopping here. If you did this on a driving test you should fail. Don't just stop in the middle of the street. You will get rear ended eventually

Deliberately causing an accident (crash) is also usually against the law (break checking). You were following to close or not paying attention, your fault.

If I see any car and there is no oncoming traffic I go ahead and pull over into the other lane as I slow. If anyone is in a tremendous hurry they can stay in the right lane.
