This isn't the first, nor the last, time I've watched this particular lesson, Mike. I like playing this song during my just-for-me sessions and occasionally need a refresher course. You might be one of the few in the world that love the Beatles as much as I do. Thanks for being here for us, Brother, your tutorials are absolutely invaluable.

Like many, I was scarred for life as a 17 year old in Liverpool in 1963 by the Beatles music - and I still play them. They've never been bettered. Keep up the good work, Mike!

Mike: you are just amazing! Not only a great guitarist, but your ear for detecting just what each Beatle was doing is just beyond words. I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and every one of them has taught me something new while being totally entertained by your dedication and love of The Beatles. Finally, I’ve loved this song since I was a boy because of the bridge, and particularly because of John’s heart-wrenching vocal. I think they only did it once to make it more rare; in other words when the song came on the radio, everyone just stopped so they could hear that bridge, because it only came by once each time. Maybe it was just clever marketing in 1963. Though I’ve heard and played the song countless times, I still always stop to hear that bridge. Thanks for the lesson as always.

Mike 50 years ago we would have given a lot for this information! Back then the sheet music was often not in the key recorded (E flat for A, B flat for D etc.). The chord voicings were awkward to finger. We gave up and tried to learn it off the record , but we would all hear different things. We also didn't have vocal monitors so the harmonies were random. Crank it up, hold a steady beat and smile!

Oh man, I don't know how many books came out back then with incorrect chords to Beatles songs. I couldn't afford to buy them, so I would just copy the chords down in the bookstore and go home and try them and they rarely worked. So I would head back to the turntable--play, stop, back up, play, stop back up...driving my mother crazy.

Great lesson Mike! My name is Nathan. I’m a 17 year old intermediate guitarist from North Carolina, USA 🇺🇸. It’s so fascinating to see exactly how the Beatles played their music. These guys are my favorite band and it always makes me happy to see someone else with the same passion for them as me! George and John were the whole reason I started playing guitar. The first time I heard Johns rhythm guitar on the song All My Loving, I was mesmerized. Same thing happened when I heard George play on The Beatles version of Words Of Love. Could you do a lesson on that song? I would love to learn it. I have Vinyl copies of almost every Beatles album (I’m only missing 3) Like I said these guys are my favorite band and I love to see people who love them like I do! Abbey Road is my favorite album of all time and my favorite song of all time is Here Comes The Sun. That was the first song I ever heard from them. Thanks for all the great lessons Mike! Hope to see more in the future!😊

When I was your age all we could do was just listen to the records, we had no idea how the songs were put together, or maybe some magazines with chords written on, but they didn't make any sense at all. Great lesson, Mike! What an incredible song. Lennon’s voice - Wow, the raw emotion of the lyrics, the power of the driving rhythm of George’s 12 string guitar in particular, some jazz chords, and George’s subtle yet effective and memorable slide guitar at the end. A classic song for all time! Beatles’ musical magic at their finest. I love the song, and I thoroughly enjoyed your stellar lesson. Thank you

Initially I was a bit sus about the content but you sold me completely when you re-created the entire song with the addition of vocals - I was absolutely more than impressed and want to thank you for your effort and dedication. With regard to the bridge... yes, it is almost an emotional hurt that it wasn't done twice as I think it's a special section of their contribution to this particular song which still resonates to my soul even though I'm now significantly advanced in years. Even though I have for the last 40 years been on a completely different musical page - i.e. blues, soul, funk, gospel, world music - I think it's import to give huge kudos to the younger dudes here who either feel or recognise the artistry that occurred all those years ago. Personally I don't understand how they relate to it but I'm sure as f..k pleased that they do - I think it's freakin' awesome. cheers. BTW was always particularly keen on their cover of Mr Moonlight, the original version of which was (as I understand it) by Dr Feelgood (aka Piano Red) ruclips.net/video/R1CXyJntsZg/видео.html. cheers to all

Such a beautiful song. I've thought that the most discernible strumming was played by John but it's not. It's amazing what only two guitars played by two creative guys can do.

Thanks Mike, had to go and listen for myself with the headphones.... you're right, last 2 notes of Georges closing octave riff, definitely some sort of slide... unmistakable "Santo and Johnny" feel to it... love his slide playing which I first heard on " My Sweet Lord" ; think he once said he was inspired to play slide by Delaney of Delaney & Bonnie ...other than that Wild Honey Pie, and Drive My Car , and For You Blue are Beatles slide tracks that come to mind. ( "Free As a Bird", of course) . One side of George which I always suspected, as indicated with the sitar, ukulele, and slide guitar.... he didn't really want to compete with other players . Love your videos and passion for the Fab Four !

People Say About Any One Bands
Songs, I Love Them All. The Beatles Had A "Collection" Of Favorites, From All Of Their "Hits"
To Album Songs, Or, Pardon Me,
Any "Album Fillers", I've Heard Them Called. Anyways, Among Their Vast Collection Of Songs,
"This Boy" Was And Is, My All-Time Favorite Beatles Song.
Thank You Mike, For Bringing This Song To Light. You DO Make It Fun To Play Guitar And, Your
Very Expressive And Very Knowledgeable Way Of Explaining Chord Progression
    And Strumming Techniques And
Voice Stylings Makes It So Much More Easier To Grab Hold Of The
Feel Of Any Beatles Song, Let Alone This 1963 Gem, 1963 Doesn't Feel That Far Away Anymore. Thank You So Much
For All You Do And Know Mike.
    Long Live The "Fab Four"🎶🎸

Hats off to you Mike on the vocals!!! That is rarely discussed in the comments on your videos. You very effectively affect the Liverpool accent with it being a caricature. Of course the real vocal test on this song is the "cry-y-y" wail right after 20:58 -- which you did just right. Goosebumps. Have there been offers to clone you so you can form an entire band? The Pachelli's :)
