I studied this piece when I was a kid, and it was probably one of the toughest things I ever had to learn on piano. But when I did, I felt unstoppable, like I could run a marathon.
i had to study praeludium by bach and and it was hard as hell but mastered... 6 years of experience came to this piece that is on top of all the comments...
I got the sheets for this a while back and started learning it and thought, "huh, this is easier than I thought it would be". I found out soon after starting that I was playing a massively simplified version with harmonies omitted.

Also gotta love Chopin, the man really loved his home country. I don't know so much about Polish history but her people seem like such a brave and wonderful people. I had a teacher who was a somewhat famous concert pianist, and she remarked that this polonaise is too difficult for most students who play it. I imagine that has to do with the demands of producing a sonorous yet loud sound. Also, this piece possesses incredible spirit. Bringing it off is quite a challenge

When I was 5, this was my most requested song for my grandmother to play. She and her mother were both self taught, and played beautifully. She had trouble playing one of the notes due to how fast it was so she added an extra note to give her right hand time to move down the keys for the next set.

I love this song. I have played it, and it has been my favorite piece for a long time. I just turned fourteen, and this piece was my first "pretty challenging" piece. I learned it when I was still thirteen, played it in a competition, and did well! It is beautiful!!!!

I can remember playing this at a piano recital when I was about 10. The worst part of the whole thing was that I was the last one to perform and had to sit through about 20 other performances before I finally got my chance. No pressure though.

I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio and my Polish mother would regularly tune in to the Polish programming on 1300 AM WERE. I remember that a variation of this melody was used to open up their weekend programming.
Amy Chen I can relate. A stretch of a ninth is as uncomfortable for me as an octave with 4-1 fingering on the attack. And a tenth is absolutely impossible for me to play. But my fingers hurt more from staying in octave position for the majority of the notes than the stretches.

Liszt wrote that this polonaise is similar to Weber’s e major polonaise. I disagree. Its construction is similar a bit, but Weber probably didn’t know what he’s writing. Chopin knew deeply what is polonaise and how it should sound, knew the tradition definitely better than Weber. Every part in this polonaise has its sense. I love it!
The critics on here need to get a life! If they can write or perform a piece of music as well written or perform it as well, if not better, then do it! This music has stood the test of time and the performance here is well played. Difficult piece for even the most accomplished pianist!
Modeltnick actually sorry to break your little rant, but this is NOT one of the hardest pieces. In fact, it's one of Chopin's easiest, perfectly fit for the late intermediate student to test their waters with a little advanced chord progressions and stamina. But yea, everything else I agree with
Wasario Games i would argue that this is one of chopin’s intermediate pieces. He did write a multitude of easier ones, but you are right that it isn’t all too difficult. I would put it at around grade 8 abrsm, maybe 9
