There is 60fps in RDR1 on PS5. They added it later in a patch and it works on PS5 in backward compatibility mode (still native 4k). DF tested it, there is even a video (or a clip) about it on DF Clips channel, title: "Red Dead Redemption's 60FPS Upgrade Tested on PlayStation 5".
Exactly.
I think they didn't had much ancient GPU's lying around so they just tested with what they had and slapped it for the minimum GPU part.
Also, probably this game will run DX11 or DX12.

It was a crime not to bring the game to PC when it launched originally.
Apparently they somehow lost the source code and couldn't reverse engineer the game back then. But to be honest, I don't know how the hell they managed to do it now.
@@_MaZTeR_ That's because they had a motivation this time. Money.
To be fair, Rockstar San Diego was forced to push the game out of the door, so that they can move to other Rockstar's projects. Which it's most likely why they never got around to port the game to PC. We also never got a PC port of Midnight Club LA, also made by Rockstar San Diego. They just now had the opportunity to collab with Double Eleven.
Man a 10 plus year old game finally coming to PC. Looks like Rockstar milked this franchise for all it’s worth in all console platforms and decided it was finally time to throw PC gamers a bone so they can get bonded by RS. Lol
They literally forgot rdr 1 and GTA 4 even existed.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat Why Gta4?
@@BlackTone91 because the gta 4 pc port is HORRIBLE, even worse than consoles versions
Not a priority I guess. It'd have been nice if the game had released for PC back then but they wouldn't have developed a "PC Version" they'd have drop ported the console code directly to Windows, as they usually did, and we'd have ended up with a mess.
I think what they did with GTA5, delay a few years and release a TRUE PC version with all the benefits, would have made more sense but GTA is a much bigger (and more lucrative) franchise than RDR.
Glad they have finally ported it though. Heard good things about the game and now we can finally see what the hype was.
@@Polengue PS3 version of GTA4 was horrible too so what?
I think the issue is that the GTX 900 series was the first to support DX12. The AMD Radeon R7 360 supports DX12.
There are different levels of support for both DirectX12 12 and Vulkan.
GTX 400 also supports the most barbones level of DX12. Not that it can leverage that to any degree in anything tho.
Also, "R7 360"? Brah, GCN1 and up support DX12 Feature Level 11_1. That's HD 7000 GPUs. 360 is a GCN2 GPU with Feature Level 12_0 support.
@@raresmacovei8382 I did a quick google search for does gtx 700 series support directex 12, and it came up as no. I looked up a GTX 480, and it does say it support dx12. Thanks for catching that.

If i have to run an upscaler for a port of a game from 2009 I might just give up buying games. It's hysterical that a port that should be able to run on a toaster is going to have DLSS 3.7+ and FSR 3.0 and Rockstar can't update RDR2 to have the latest upscaler tech and have them running on DX12 and Vulcan properly. I think they're losing the plot and once all the original creators are retired they're done as company.
Yeah there’s generally no defending Rockstar on PC ports. While GTA V and Max Payne 3 had pretty good PC ports (never played RDR2 so not sure if that one did as well), generally their PC ports, *especially* for GTA IV (which was a similar iteration of the engine as RDR1) are terrible. GTA IV’s PC port is still notoriously difficult to run, even on modern high end hardware. So if this is anything like that, it is definitely not a toaster game (unless you are attempting to toast something on an intel chip hahaha). Hopefully this is better than GTA IVs port though.
Also worth noting that upscalers just kind of make sense to add. They likely don’t take much time to implement, and DLSS quality or ultra quality generally looks better than native (significantly less jaggy) at least in my opinion. Just because it’s there doesn’t mean that it is necessary to run the game.
You jumped to conclusions on nothing and made a whole plotline in your brain of the fall of Rockstar. Relax a bit. Your energy is what is wrong with gaming nowadays. Whole lot of negativity and wanting stuff to fail.
All games released now. Regardless of them being new games or ports of old games should come with all features available from all hardware vendures. From Rockstar blog, the game is locked to 144. It seems an engine lock since that's also the limit in emulators. So the only way to get more frames is through frame generation. Or do you want to just be stuck at 144hz even when you have a top of the line pc and 4k 240hz oled monitors. Think for a bit. And think how weird to only have frame gen and nothing else. So might at that point add all features to have a complete port.
Also before the upscaling part. Dlss is a super sample method. The game uses FSRAA on consoles. So might add dlss and dlaa to the pc port for the best Anti-Alasing. But you didn't think of that did you? Screw DLSS and DLAA. lets use blurry concolse FSR AA. Right?Reflex decreases latency to have a better gaming response. But screw it too right? Let's have sluggish experience. Also the game will high likely get modded with textures and what not. To bring it to current day. And with DLSS you can have those mods to have a better visual gaming experience with performance too. But you didn't think of that did you?
Your new gen gamers are limited. Get mad when a new game does not come with features. But when an older game comes with it you complain. Despite older games needing these feature more. To fix fps engine locks. Blurry TAA. Sluggish gameplay.

Actually really excited for a decent PC port.
A wonderful thing about older games coming to new hardware is that you can render the game with high framerate at max settings. I'm sure it'll be a pleasant and more immersive experience being able to max out draw distances in something like RD1.
More than that, hopefully the modding scene will come to the rescue and we can slap in some new meshes/textures into the game to upgrade it further.

To be honest, I didn't expect them to make the effort with such an old game. So it's a nice surprise.
I have to believe that the recommended is 4K 60K for such an old game without much modern updates. I had the 5700XT prior to upgrading to my 3080 and I was able to play games from the 2015-2019 era at 4K 60fps that have much more modern graphical assets/textures.
I feel like the massive difference between the 960 and the 370 on the low end might just happen to be whatever the porting studio had available to test with. Can't imagine many studios still have an armada of 9-year-old devices to test the min spec with on hand anymore.

Those are very high for a game from 2010 but low for a 2024 game. Seems like those settings would target 1440p or 4k?
Even RDR2 the specs weren’t that high
Most likely 4k
Probably 4k 120 fps or something like that because RDR2 can be run on those specs at 4k at least 60 with tweaked settings.

Dan, the PS4 version is based off of the PS3 version which is noticeable lower graphical settings than the X360 version , the first 2 rage games on the 7th gen were made for the Xbox 360 , GTA4 and RDR1 , everything after that was made for PS3 mainly: LA Noire, Max Payne 3, GTA5.
On GTA4 the Xbox version had the draw distance at the level of PC level 22, on PS3 it was equivalent to pc in 19 , RDR1 has better folliage on Xbox and more stable soft shadows.
It took Rockstar a while to get a proper hold of the PS3's Cell.

It's crazy to think that people have been asking for a PC version of this game since 2011. Feels kinda underwhelming for it finally to arrive 10+ years later.
Great work and thank you so much for your detailed analysis, Daniel.
So excited. One of my all time favorite games, beat the original single player 100%, but my home was burglarized around that time afterwards and I lost all my electronics, gaming consoles. When I rebuilt I decided to invest solely into a PC rather than try buy the consoles again, it just wasn't budget friendly to try and get it all back, so I went PC only from there and haven't had a console since, that was over a decade ago. One of my biggest frustrations was that I had no access to some of my favorite titles RDR being one of them and have yearned for that port and was so frustrated Rockstar just flat out refused to bring it over to PC. It really didn't make sense as good as that game was that they wouldn't want to cash in on the PC market. The rumors of a port will they won't they I lost any hope it was ever happening. Then this announcement came... *paces back and forth
Graphic modders gonna cook
all of this can be explained by understanding that this port will likely be either vulkan or dx12 and these are the oldest cards to support the dx12 standard in a meaningful way and the recommended can be explained by newer instructions only supported by said cards thus giving better performance at a lower wattage.

12 gigs vs 150 gigs between the two? Sheesh.
The PS4 version running on PS5 got a 60 FPS option in January. Until now it’s been the objectively best version of the game due to that patch alone
They didn't even call it a remaster or anything! Just a release for pc. Which is great, since that is exactly what it is. A lot of games are re-released nowadays with "remastered" in the title even though it's just a re-release.
still can't believe they honestly thought a bare minimum upgrade rerelease of a 14 year old game justifies 50 bucks

Yo it comes out on my birthday!
Just wanted to point out that Red Dead Redemption got a post-launch patch for PS5 that made the game run at 60FPS.
I played RDR2 on the minimum specs. It was OK at lowish settings, but a significantly better experience on a modern PC.
0:05: yes guys, its oficial, its confirmed
With those specs you should be able to run 4K/144 fps a 14 year old game.
Whats the point of frame generation in old game like this though..
It's easy to upscale to 1440p or 4k and get really good frame rate in PC, without having to do much work with the textures, engine, etc.
High refresh rate monitors and also low power devices like steam deck and older GPUs(assuming it has FSR frame gen).
Basically none. If the game can run well above 100FPS natively there is no reason to even use FG for added input lag especially in a slower paced game like RDR. Now everybody has it's own preferences so there will be people that will disagree with me so it's nice to at least have the option available but just because there will be FG it does not mean you should or even want to use it. For those who want it, let them use it.
Engine is limited to 144fps max, if you have a high refresh monitor you will need at least 2x frame gen to reach your native refresh rate.
So cool!! I can't wait!
i don't think that the PS5 can't run it at 4k60 it could've been an issue with the physics that would break the game which i suspect they fixed that for the PC release
I'm hoping the recommended specs aren't higher to account for an unoptimized release.
They bring the latest dlss and fsr and frame gen for a game from like 2009 but not for the prequel from 2018 that is way harder to run, makes sense
The minimum GPU could be needing support for some shader model level or something. This happens with retro games a lot.
I think the R7 360 is GCN architecture.
Considering I can run it at locked 60FPS 1440p through and emulator on my 6700XT and 5700x3D it would have to be be better than that.
Emulation is an expensive process and there's few major graphics changes.
The requirements seems a bit lazy to be honest, recommended requirements are more subjective by developers buy the minimum seems way too high when the game was recently ported to the Switch and orginally released on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The R7 360 might be chosen due to support DX12 Featureset 12_0 while its old rivals like earlier Maxwell cards (750ti) only support DX12 Featureset 11_0 and would not even boot up the game. I think the graphics card required can be weak as long as it supports DX12 featureset 12_0. (From Google) Does R7 370 support DX12?
Even though it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_1, which can be problematic with newer DirectX 12 titles.
Good job Rockstar 🤦♂️
It's problematic because DirectX 12 now also has features like Ray Tracing and higher levels of detail. But I guess RDR1 should be fine on it.
This is a win compared to Monster Hunter Wilds
the minimum specs are similar to ps4 specs (1080p@30fps)
the recommended specs are similar to ps5 specs (4k@60fps)
Absolutely no chance they updated the ui lol
If the RTX 2070 can deliver 4K 60fps without upscaling in this game, then it will be fine for a 14 year old port.
But we can't forget that the version of ps5/series x has better grapichs than the pc version, maybe someday we'll get an update?
Were getting a Red Dead Redemption windows release before GTA6
3:10 Correct me if I'm wrong but, as far as I know/remember, the only difference between FSR 2 and 3 is that 3 has frame generation. As far as I know/remember, there is no difference whatsoever between the upscaling quality/method of FSR 2 and 3, which is why people complained about it when it was announced and released, right, that it wasn't an "update" at all, just AMD wanting to play catch-up in terms of FG. So, for me, if a game says FSR 3, I always just assume that that only means it'll have FSR frame generation, which is why Daniel's remark here caught me off guard. Otherwise, why wouldn't they just use FSR 2...? It feels weird 'cause I thought the point of using FSR 3 is ONLY to have access to the frame generation. Again, I might be completely wrong on all this, so feel free to correct me in the replies. I mean, holy shit, have I been misunderstanding FSR 3 this whole time? 😂 Damn.
In an alternate reality, rockstar remade RDR1 in RDR2, packaged the game into 1 and rdr2 to rdr1 is a single long ass game and Red Dead Online is actually good

In 6 months, graphical mods are going to make this game next gen
Really disappointed this will not include Online mode.
After 14 years, then another 6 since RDR2, this should've been redone in the new engine. They've had more than enough time to make a AAA game from scratch (not to their standards, perhaps) since RDR2. Plus, most of the assets have already been redone in the new engine, the VA is all done, the direction decisions are all done too. They should've been able to knock out a remake in a couple of years.
Who would had develop it though? All studios since RDR2 have moved to GTAVI's development. A remake would had consumed from their resources.
Mods are going to be awesome for this game.
I'm expecting minor improvements for a 14 year-old game at full price.
It's $50 on Steam and Epic.
Please make a Silent Hill 2 Remake Video testing different upscaling modes
I mean, a game like this deserved a total remake with the new engine. When you have to put a game under a microscope to find differences....meh. This is a cash grab, plain and simple. After 14 years? Really? The audacity...They don't deserve our money.
It is astonishing just how lazy the console ports were.
The PC port looks to be extremely lazy as well, but at least there are some basic improvements and higher framerates. I'll probably get it eventually, once the mods get crazy enough to justify it.
But right now, just playing it on PC via Ryujinx already gives me a solid 4k/60.
Also, "minimum and recommended specs" really need to start clarifying EXACTLY what they mean. It wouldn't be hard for Steam to start mandating a clear explanation.
A simple list like:
1080p/Low/30FPS
1080p/Ultra/60FPS
4K/Low/30FPS
4K/Ultra/60FPS
After each one, include the respective hardware that accomplished it. Plain, simple, straightforward. Enough information for solid answers and for people to figure out any other performance targets they may want to hit.
It is absolutely ridiculous to share hardware requirements that still leave consumers with zero idea of what they mean. What's the point if nobody knows what to expect? Telling people "you need this to play that" should not result in confusion and speculation.
It’s a shame it’s not a proper remake but it’s definitely a testament to how strong art direction is timeless. It’s the same for the PS3 Last of Us. Still looks great even though it’s definitely dated.
Just got a 4090! I’m ready Freddy spaghetti 😂
I run RDR2 at a comfortable 40 fps on 1060, and I'm kinda worried my pc may struggle with rdr1 but that would make no sense.

I unironically like that they're doing a straight port and not a remake or remaster. Remakes are never 100% faithful to the original, and I really hate revisionism.
I want to experience games in their original form, just with better performance.
That being said, I'm still not going to buy it because it uses the Rockstar Launcher. I refuse to tolerate online DRM of any kind.
