The team has outdone themselves this time, and I'm so happy we're getting a Console (Classic) Doom renaissance. Can't wait to see you play both the Slayer Edition for the Jaguar and the 2025 SNES port remaster once they get released!
Classic Doom has been getting a *lot* of love sent it's way these past few months. Love to see that, and sincerely adore this project! Props to everyone involved.
I wonder what an alternate history would look like where this was released back in its time. Could it have put Sega on a completely different trajectory?
Nah. I don't think any sort of 32X-CD title back in the day, even at this level, would have helped much given the upfront hardware investment needed on the consumer's part, not to mention all the other hardware options available at the time. Plus, this project has been in the works for years, which is an allotment of time SEGA was notorious for *not* giving third-party devs (the original DOOM on 32X was quite rushed for launch, for instance). Still, it would have been cool to at least see *something* 32X-CD that wasn't a FMV title!
Those Baron corpses hanging up on the wall in Tower of Babel, intentional or not, were some really cool and creepy background decorations, and it goes perfectly with the atmosphere of fighting a Cyber Demon. If they didn't mean to put those there they should seriously leave them in cause it looks awesome in that room.
Haha! They were 100% unintentional. It occurred on Episode 2's secret level as well we came to find out. It'll be changed back to normal in the next update.
@@mleolv426 Not needed at all, as the chip is weaker than the 32X. A much better idea is to make a 4MB RAM cart in the same form as the Sonic & Knuckles cart, so a game can come on cart+CD, plus use 4MB to load many more assets from the CD.
Sega really blew it with the 32X So many fantastic arcade conversion could be done... a lot of the superscalers and this unbelievable doom port! What a shame!
@GameplayandTalk Nice! So in my head as a kid, I thought the Sega CD was going to be cart + CD game releases for some reason. Until my cousin got one & I realized the entire game was on disc 🤯! 20+ years later ... people proving me right 🤣. As a lifelong Doom fan, this passion project is amazing to see. Here's to hoping that Genesis Wolf 3D proof of concept gets fleshed out one day too 😎👌
This is so good. I have been following the experiments branch for months trying to peek at what was coming. Will it be possible to make an heretic port starting from your engine?
I don't see why not. Though, Heretic features far larger maps than DOOM or DOOM II, and Fusion here already struggles with some of the larger maps (like E4M2 or MAP15). It would be a daunting task making a recognizable version of Heretic that still plays well. If someone wanted to try, the source code is available - github.com/viciious/d32xr/tree/experiment.
Hm, not very familiar with Heretic 2. And Part 1 I did do as a series of LPs many years ago (still on this channel). Probably won’t do it again until I get good at it once again, it’s pretty tough.

Big thanks to Austin for helping us come through with this and his excellent streams as well!
Damn, Vic is such a legend. Imagine having this in 1994-95

@@GameplayandTalk That's a shame, cause it looks awesome.
Obrigado aos envolvidos. Muita dedicação e amor ao jogo. Muito divertido ver a sinergia da torre do poder mostrando algo inédito para a plataforma!
Obrigado pelo comentário e pelo incentivo.
Next evolution is Sega Megadrive/Sega MegaCD/32X and a cartridge containing the SVP chip...u know you want it.
SVP carts don't work on the 32X..
..But it's a fun idea!
@@GameplayandTalk not yet😉

So to my knowledge, only the 2nd game to use a combo cart + CD set up, right? Other being Pier Solar to stream music. Really awesome to see this!!!
I am not 100% sure, but you might be right (previous DOOM 32X Resurrection aside, you had optional CD audio support as well).

I think the recent MK2 hack for the 32X also supports red book audio from the Sega CD. Not sure if it work on OG hardware or just flash carts.
CD32X FPGA console when?
Hopefully one day!
You have been busy with games this days. Austin, is good to know you're enjoying with it.

Btw a big question for u gameplay would u ever consider doing a stream on the heretic1 and 2 maybe??

Will this work on a PAL console if I burn it on a CD?
It works on PAL consoles, yes. Keep in mind it's not just a CD release--you need a CD as well as the ROM running on a flash cart.
@@GameplayandTalk Good to know! I better get a flash cart then. Thanks for the info!
Cuando el carmak dijo que solo habia que usar los sh2 para hacer el doom penso que iba a salir una maravilla como esta. Se equivoco
Aren't you a fan of GManlives?
A long time ago. Haven’t watched his stuff in a while.
