You are by far the best quilting teacher I have seen....Your instructions are so clear. Love your tutorials...I have been sewing for years and I have learned so much by watching you. I am looking forward to your next one....Keep up the good work.
I have been looking at quilting demos for a while...I love love the way Nancy explains every step of making a quilt...she is the most thorough teacher there is...I enjoy just listening at her explain the steps to create the beautiful quilts that she makes. So much common sense....keep the videos coming...Can't wait for the next season.....Would not trade her for all the others.
I just started sewing amd quilting this past 6 months. This the BEST binding tutorial EVER! Nancy I love your personality and teaching technique. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to next season. The camera crew is great...love how they zoom into your demonstration. Kudos!
You are a gem Nancy I'm binding my quilt tomorrow ( pity Ive already trimmed the batting..but never again 😜) I've always had trouble with the beginning and ending so I'm very excited to follow your tips. Loved the little gadgets and I didn't know about thread conditioner! Or bees wax ! I've got that on my "to get" list for sure. I want to thank you Nancy for all the fabulous tutorials you've given us ..I have truly enjoyed every single one and have learnt so much. You are very often in my thoughts in my sewing shed . I will be waiting eagerly to see what you have for us next 😘
Hi Nancy I have been watching you over the past few days from Australia. I have just loved your classes and techniques. Thank you soooooo much, I am looking forward to your next season.
Another good lesson! I like the idea of a knot every few inches! Next season I would love to see how you would do the binding with a sewn seam joining the two ends as opposed to the tucking method in this video. I know there are many ways to do this, but I'm wondering what works for you!
Loved the tutorial! Liked the idea of knotting the thread every few inches which makes lots of sense. I learn something new every time I watch you. You're a terrific teacher for sure. When will your new season begin?
Thanks Sandra! Our third season will start later this year. While you're waiting, we have a couple more episodes AND some exciting news to share. Stay tuned!
Nancy, this is by far the best video I've seen on binding and explained clearly as well. I have always wondered why you would attach binding and not use the batting. I have never been to a quilt show so I didn't know about being judged on your binding being "full". I doubt I will ever enter a quilt show but this is a great tip to know, and I will try it the next time. I do have a question though...why when I attach my binding and machine sew the other side are my stitches not lined up? I fold the binding over and slightly overlap the stitch line and proceed to sew using the edge of the binding as a guide but it always ends up being wonky!! Arggh!! Thanks for all you do and for sharing your knowledge with us! You have been wonderful!!!!! I can not bring myself to hand sew the binding, I have done way too much hand sewing in my life and am completely burned out on it. I used to do counted cross stitch as well as hand embroidery. Hoping you understand....
I'm so glad you like the show. It has been so much fun. Stay tuned for some new projects in season 3 😄 I hope you get s chance to go a some quilt shows - I love seeing all the creativity. I do recommend hand stitching the back, but if you still want to try seeing it on by machine, sew it with the back of the quilt on top and put a thread in the bobbin that matches the quilt too- that way you can see the gilded edge of binding and keep your stitching straight. Hope this helps. Nancy.
Tutorial was so helpful, thanks heaps your a fantastic teacher ,I don't feel so discouraged now ,I'm back on track with my table runner ,looks like it will get finished after all.
I ordered your book! hope to get it soon. Love, Love, Love your tutorials,,, thank you! I have a question about FMQ??? I have a pfaff quilt expression machine. love the machine but I think it houses a gremlin? Seriously, I took it in to have it checked several months ago thinking I had tension issues and when I got it set up to sew, it sewed beautifully???, Maybe the gremlin just wanted a ride in my car? Recently it started doing the same tension issues, Sometimes my free motion quilting looks good, sometimes not so good. Let me say that the bobbin side of the fmq almost always looks good. having trouble putting my finger on what the problem is. I have used 50wt cottton top and botton,... 50 wt bobbin 30-35 wt top, ....sometimes I can use the factory setting for quilting tension, sometimes I have to dial it down from 5.2 to 3.4. not consistent.??? I re-thread, change needle, change thread,etc....... I have noticed that lighter colors seem to work better than darker ones. Get tired of hours of practice before I want to quilt an actual quilt! ughhh. Sorry this is so long, anyone have similar problems? This is my second pfaff. had the other one for 33 years, still works. I am new to fmq, ? 1 year or so.
Hi Debra :) - as you know, I am a Pfaff girl also and love them but I have found that some machines do and some machines don't want to FMQ. It is just sad but it seems that the more bells and whistles they have the more issues you can have. I seems to me that you have done all the checking you can do. My Expression 5.0 did really good and my new one, the Icon also does really good, but my 4.0 never really wanted to work, that was when I purchased the Grand Quilter - it does it great all the time without any fuss or bother. I know there are other machines like it - I think Juki has one that is very similar. The thing about it that I think makes it perfect is that it has no bells or whistles. It has only one stitch - it isn't fast and strong. I know getting an additional machine is probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you want to really have a good time doing the FMQ - this is the type of machine I would recommend. AND you can often times find a used one at the dealers :)
@@QuiltingWithNancy Thank you so much for your response! just a quick question. is the Pfaff 4 that you referred to the quilt expression 4 or 4.2. I have the Pfaff quilt expression 4.2 machine. very nice machine, just not a consistently good at FMQ. :-(
Hi Pamela. That wrist pin cushion is an old one. I've had it so long it is an extension of my arm - I'm kinds of dependent on it - but there is no pattern I know of. Sorry. I would love to find s manufacturer to make more - in pink ☺️
@ pamela kitchens - You can now buy a complete KIT to make one or just the pattern and the plastic insert on her website. Check out her video with the announcement: It's Here! - Make Nancy's Wrist Pincushion, ruclips.net/video/z_bTk27vhhY/видео.html .
Hi - because I am constantly squaring up each segment in the process of making the quilt, and I measure and pin the borders as I am putting them on, my quilts generally finish pretty square. Nothing is ever perfect of course. If I am making a small wall hanging or a quilt for a quilt show, I will wash the quilt before I put the binding on and block it square on my living room carpet, then draw a “squared up” line on the edge of my quilt to use for lining up my binding when I put it on. Hope that helps.

Just looking at the beautiful quilt behind you one knows you don’t need to pin or mark anymore….that quilt is stunning!

How do you square up your quilt since you don't cut off your batting and backing??
