I watched many, many videos on bindings. Everyone had their opinion on what to do and how to do it. But I still didn't feel confident when it came to binding . This video has been out since 2011 and I'm seeing it for the first time in 2023. It's the best. Sharon explained what to do, how to do it, and WHY you should do it that way. I'm now looking *forward* to binding my quilts!
Love this tutorial. It’s in my favorites and I watch it before binding a quilt to refresh my memory. It’s a great technique and Sharon is a great teacher. Thank you, Sharon! 💕
I’ve been sewing for nearly 70 years! Never had I seen the loop knot at the eye of the needle. I want to cry with joy at that instruction as in the past I must have rethreaded my needle “a hundred” times when sewing on binding! Thank you so much for your wonderful instruction.
I did her Silk Society Stash applique and embroidery quilt and learned about "casting on" the tread to the needle. It's just great to not be losing the tread all the time.
You do such beautiful work. I am not a quilter, but my Grandma was. Truly an amazing art. Thank you for sharing the binding technique which will transfer nicely to other sewing projects.
You are a wonderful teacher! I'm a retired elementary school teacher, and I appreciate your thorough explanations, your expertise, and your excellent step-by-step modeling.
Yes, this is absolutely THE best binding tutorial I've ever come across on RUclips! FANTASTIC! Very, very helpful to know that binding quality (or lack thereof) can determine an award winning quilt. Thank you so much, Sharon!!!
BEST ever as are all of Sharon’s tutorials. I watch these tutorials over and over. Thank you SO much Sharon for making my quilting much better and more enjoyable.
Thank you for this awesome tutorial-you have completely and expertly displayed and explained the best binding process ever-shortcuts may be tempting at the end, but after all the work you put into the quilt binding it accurately is essential 😊
Oh my gosh, this has got to be the most fabulous way to get a beautiful binding ever! Can’t wait until my next project is done so I can use this method! Thank you Sharon!!!
I had the honor of attending a class with Sharon! Needless to say, I am a wannabe “Sharon”! Her knowledge and skill, along with her common sense makes quilting fun and easier. Love the glue application.
This is the best binding video ever! I have struggled with my binding looking “professional” and this video was so articulate and well made! Great job and thank you!
Some people say, finished is better than perfect, I say this is better! You do have the best tutorial on this subject by far!!! I'm just about done with a king size quilt that will definitely be having this process done to bind it! Thank you so much, I'm a happy camper now, no a happy quilter!
Thank you for your instructions on making a perfect binding. This will help so much in the finishing of my quilts. I may never enter in competition but still want my quilts done well for the people I give them to. Very well done.
This is the best tutorial on binding you can ever watch. Couldn’t wait to try it. When I did I was so excited with the results. Now I look forward to finishing my quilt with beautifully applied binding. Thanks a million for sharing your technique.
I have now used this method on my last three quilts and the results have been amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this method. And also to your daughter for her glue-basting tips - I found your site through hers.
This works amazingly well. I love the detailed explanation and the video. The pace is easy to follow and I stopped and started the video every step along the way. I have never had binding go on so easily nor have I ever had results like this. Amazing! I'll never do it any other way!! Thank you, Sharon!
This is my all time favorite binding video. You did a superb job in demonstrating how to use the glue accurately to produce show quality quilts. I'm very impressed especially after seeing how my binding turned out following your instructions. This is the only way to go. Thanks so much for sharing. I am now a fan and follower.
I was told by the lady who runs my quilting group that my binding was "okay, but needed some work." So a friend told me to find this here on youtube, and I proceeded to use it for my next quilt. When I turned it in (they're all charity quilts) the lady said, "Whoa, check out those corners! So sharp! This is great binding!!!" The method is time consuming, but completely worth it. If you're going to take the time to make a quilt, the take the time to do the binding properly. It can make the difference between "eh" and "WOW!"
I am so thankful to find this video several months ago. Have watched it several times in preparing to do my FIRST ever binding! Thank you for the detailed explanation and demonstrations. They are awesome. Will be actually doing the binding in this manner this coming week!
wow I'm so pleased to have found this video. I sew my binding with a machine..attach at the back and sew in the ditch in the front and am always having a problem with "how wide should the seam allowance be" and having the back move all over the place while sewing.. so you answered both questions that were not available anywhere else. I can't thank you enough!
I am a new quilter. After watching a number of tutorials on binding quilts I had developed a fear of doing my first binding. I came across this video and thought, “I can do this”. And I did. Thank you so much for the clearly explained tutorial and video. You made it possible to produce a very nice binding on my first try.
Wow! What a great instructional video! I’ve struggled with bindings for as long as I’ve been making quilts...I actually cringe when I get to this point, but I can’t wait to try your way. I’ve been using 1/4” steam a seam along my edge to secure instead of using binding clips, this is much cheaper...I also didn’t know to fold your binding into thirds to know where to stitch so the minding is even on both sides! Thank you!!
I had always struggled keeping the binding in place. Your tips gave me the perfect binding. Your attention to every detail and sharing your every move made this possible for me. I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge!
I’ve been using Sharon’s method for my bindings and they come out beautifully every time. I turn on the video and re-watch it, stopping and re-starting every step of the way as I apply the binding just because I don’t make quilts often enough to have this memorized. LOVE the glue basting; so much more efficient than pins. I wash my quilts once completed and all the glue comes out and the corners are still sharp. Thanks Sharon for your vast knowledge and for sharing your expertise.
Wow, this really seems like a lot of work... but you can't argue with the results. Absolutely perfect binding! Thanks for the video Sharon. ~Diana from Toronto
Best binding video I've seen. I make quilts for charity and after all the work I put in them, I hate it when the binding doesn't look as good as the rest of the quilt. I will be using this glueing technique in the future! Thank you....
I know I’m 4 yrs late viewing this, but great video. There are so many new products with the clips, etc but I can see that this method is still superior. I am just finishing up a quilt for a show and I will absolutely take the time to use this method. Thank you for uploading this!!
A friend recommended I look at your technique before binding my first quilt. I'm so glad she did. Your instructions are very clear and concise. Cannot wait to try it. Thank you.
I have always taken the steps to make sure my binding has the perfect miter and fantastic binding. I plan on stepping it up using your amazing technique. Since I am long armer my customers request me to do their binding and I have always been so meticulous. Now it will be more amazing. Thank you.
Wow! I just saw this video, Thank you so much Sharon, I have applies this technique to other sewing projects, and it works just great. Elmer's washable school glue is great. I am going to make pot holders, and bind them using your great technique!
So perfect! Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I love school glue for lots of other things, but never thought of this application. You make that binding mind!
Wow, what a wonderful, detailed tutorial! I will definitely try this on my current quilt. Thank you! Sent here frim Geta Gama in Roumania. New subscriber!
I've used this method for years and it always comes out perfectly! On the last quilt I bound, I just wasn't into the starch for some reason. Spraying the binding to fold it in half and ironing it dry... didn't want to do that. So, I used my tiny glue bottle tip and put very tiny glue dots along one edge, folded it in half, and ironed. I found it was quicker and it held great, of course, just like it does when sewing it on with glue.
Best explanation and demonstration of all things regarding quilt binding Ive ever seen. I will use your method with the washable glue on my next quilt. You make it seem easy and logical, not scary at all.
I've so found so much wonderful information with your video. Thanks for sharing. I know you did this years ago but still so relevant. I've learned invaluable lessons for binding. Used your method twice so far. Wonderful results.
Really enjoyed this video on binding. I have aways had problems with joining the ends of the binding and have never been crazy about glue in quilts but here it works great. Thank you very much for such good ideas.
GGreat tutorial! Love it! Always used the glue on bindingd but only to hold binding in place to finish. Idea of the glue on the whole binding from start to finish is great! Thank you!
Ohhhhh thank you thank you! I have been having issues with binding where one layer of the binding would pleat as I was sewing and even though I was using a walking foot I couldn’t figure out why! I followed your instructions and I am pleased to report that the binding went on perfectly straight with no pleats!
Fabulous teacher!! Live the needle tips especially the one that keeps thread from falling out. Wish I could thread a needle like you. I live the attention to detail in this.
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. I am getting ready to try it on a mini quilt. Your explanation was so thorough and so very much appreciated.
I finally got a chance to see this and appreciate your clear instructions. I'm hesitating at all the glue but I will give it a try...thanks Sharon. Hugs to you and the family! I hope all are well!
Do not fear the glue! I use lots of glue. I use it for precision piecing (and binding). Glue is a great stabilizer of any biased cut piecing. Sharon's daughter Cristy Fincher has some videos on glue basting. You can also use it for production work...no pins, no finger sticks or sticking to other stuff.
I have never seen this method before. It just goes to show that by taking your time you end up with the best results. I have learnt lots of tips too which can only be a good thing!
I friend suggested that I watch your video on binding. Not sure it this is the one she meant, but it did the job! When I turned my binding to the back of the quilt I was amazed at how good it looks. You use the phrase that the binding is under control And, that the binding now knows that I am it's master! Love it! Will let you know how my quilt does in judging.
This is a fabulous tutorial, not only for technique but presentation.. I learned alot and the tools and technique can be used in all of your sewing and crafting. Thank you
I come back to your site of this wonderful way to do my bindings with every quilt/wall hanging I do....By far the best and easiest!!! Thank you....This last project was heavy duck cotton, I think that is what they used to call it. The thickness of Levi's ....I had issues with the glue holding....so I had to use the wonder clips to help hold the binding in place even with the glue.....Just very THICK fabric....but the bindings turned out well! Thank you again!!!
Sharon, than you for this marvelous exposition. I used this method today, and I ended up with a perfectish binding. My corners were beautifully mitered, but I still need to work on the front/back balance. I found that pressing the corners took all of the guess work out of stopping into the corner and starting out of it. Also, gluing the binding worked beautifully. This video and technique will allow any (I'm a novice) to bind a quilt. I know that practice makes perfect...and by not having to manhandle the binding (glue!), or guess about the corner, then one can concentrate on the seam.
This is the best of the best. Please don’t ever remove this video. I watch it EVERY time I put on a binding.
I've never had anyone explain in such detail before. It's beautiful! Thank you for taking your time and sharing with us. 🇺🇸
I watched many, many videos on bindings. Everyone had their opinion on what to do and how to do it. But I still didn't feel confident when it came to binding . Thank you for the video. This is the first time I have finished my binding and all of the back was caught by the thread. I can't thank you enough.
I’ve been sewing for nearly 70 years! Never had I seen the loop knot at the eye of the needle. I want to cry with joy at that instruction as in the past I must have rethreaded my needle “a hundred” times when sewing on binding!

I LOVE ELMER!! He's my favorite fellow. I glue everything. Cut HST before sewing. Things just stay together so nicely.
Glue basting is under appreciated. I use it exclusively for precision piecing.
Great video, great tips on joining the end piece too the best I’ve seen. Thank you 😊
I was referred to your series and I love this video. Your explanation is very good. Thank you very much.
Incredible, wonderful, and thorough!
Your sewing is just stunning. Thanks for great tutorial.
