Checkout the Eastern Orthodox Church. We've got the highest % of military vets, and former inmates than you'll find anywhere @mrgriffis. We're all converts. Seek out a ROCOR parish near you.
I'm a vet who spent 4yrs volunteering as a lay prison minister at a Supermax. I became Orthodox 20yrs ago. It's Ancient Truth...not modern bs.

      Ryan,
Brother, I commend you for being honest and transparent about you. When I served in the Marines, I still remember anytime someone was going through something, the common "un-psychological approach" was suck it up. I don't know how the Army handles or should handle personal team member issues, but from my experience, the Marines did not do a good job of addressing it. The reason, my conclusion, is that they either didn't know how to or preferred not to address it because of the stigma. While on deployment to Asia, I had a death in my family. I let it out privately and if other people took notice, I could care less. Their opinions don't define me emotionally.
Ryan, I had a challenging childhood. Many have had a difficult one. Read John Bradshaw, Texas psychologist. "If you want to know something about someone, study their childhood." We all have our narratives.
Brother, I am glad you are doing better. Listen to music, workout, take up painting, spend quality time with your family brother, do picnics. Pick up more reading. Stay strong and grow wise. Flip the switch is an expression I also use. Turn on certain necessary situations and also turn off the unnecessary ones, use filters.
      Take care brother

Another good one is: when your guest finishes speaking, pause for a moment before you respond. It gives the listener a second to digest what has just been said, and it is good form.

    “NO WORDS BETWEEN BROTHERS”
I get it sometimes we can’t make sense of it kinda like that which we all endured to some level or degree while serving.
That’s where we “let go” with the mind and take control with the breath. That’s the beauty of “breath work” we don’t have to think bc just like you said brother you can’t explain it not even to yourself thus the expression “there just aren’t words” and your right there aren’t words.
There is only energy stored in our bodies called “emotion” or energy in motion. How many times have you over your life time held your breath in disbelief, fear, or was made to feel less than the magnificent being of love that you are?
Every time any human being has had to “control their emotions” what they have actually done is STORED THEIR EMOTIONS in the body and then try to make sense of IT sometimes LIFETIMES later when in all actuality it is not the event so to speak of that is necessary to “relive” with our words bc as we all know sometimes there aren’t words but there is always our breath.
With the breath we can release ALL of those stored up energies without ever having to utter a word.
“Let Go & Let God” is what the world says, we say let go of the mind and allow Love to work its perfect work with your breath, with every breath we take we are communicating with our bodies. Work with your own, find your breath and watch a world appear all around you that can only be attributed to a “miracle” which after all you are the miracle that I AM. I am that Love, I AM and so are you!!

Is being physically fit and mentally tough in the military stigma? Seems like that’s a fact. Or did he mean getting help for mental health is a stigma?
