We take a look Coolermasters flagship PSU the V1200, with platinum efficiency and a full modular design should you be spending your hard earned money on it? www.overclock3d...
Your ripple readings are considerably higher than other retailed reviews I have seen on this PSU. In the reviews I have seen the only time the ripple approached 40mv was on the 12 volt rail at 110% of rated power. At 100% rated power the ripple was in the low 30's and under typical load in the low 20's. My unit will arrive in two days and I can't wait. I've been running the Cooler master Silent Pro Gold 1200w for the last 2.5 years and it just went south a few weeks ago. Cooler Master was kind enough to replace my unit with a new V1200. I must say their support has been fantastic from the moment I first contacted them. They aim to please.
I only know WallE and Doctor Who :( If anyone wants to know more about the effect of ripple, (I haven't checked OC3D yet) there is a post on overclock net "On ripple and its effects on overclocking" that explains it quite well. If you want to get straight to its effects, go to the second paragraph below the list of preferred voltages. As a side note, the maximum listed on that thread was 120mV with 30-40mV being below this. So this PSU is well within short term damage values. It also listed a recommended of below 80mV, which this is also well below.
I bet the OEM on this PSU is Seasonic, it looks like the XP-1200 Platinum 1200W, right down to the hybrid switch (Seasonic's is on the PSU.), and the ribbon cables.
I recognize the last two on the top row from the movie Black Hole. Maximillion and the other little bot that floated around but can't remember his name.
At 17:25 did you mean to say Coolermaster or Corsair? Seems like you were supposed to say Coolermaster, might want to annotate that unless I'm mistaken.
What, no-one's recognized the Dalek (especially) and K-9 from Dr. Who yet? And bottom left is Robby the Robot from Lost In Space ("Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!")

Hi Tom iI have been watching your vids for some time now, I have to disagre with your position on PSU mounting. I will now quote you an retort each point "Back in the day when the PSU was mounted at the top it always pointed inwards." Yes because back then cases very rarely more than one dedicated exhaust fan so as well as acting as an intake for the power supply it also created negative pressure at the top and back of the case removing hot air. "The PSU fan helps draw hot air from the GPU." Even Noctua fans can't tell the difference between hot and cold air they just pull on what you put them next to hot, cold, warm they don't care. "Up or down it doesn't matter" Perhaps the difference is negligible in a large case where the intake FANS and a single or even dual GPU set up is a good 20 - 40cm away from the PSU which you have said many time is overpowered and barely spins up. But what about an mitx, itx, matx, or even a dual card atx, set-up like mine where the PSU sits closer to the both the bottom card and intakes and is actually spins up under load. will make a difference. Since I flipped power supply to face the floor an sealed the gap between floor and PSU with electrical tape, both my radeon 7850s have run noticeably cooler and quieter. Cheers from one tinytom to another
Got mine for 130€ three weeks ago - at that price im not picky. But to be fair i knew what i was getting into with that badboy anyway (ripplewise) so far im very happy with it and until now i actually never even heard the fan - till i overclocked my 3930k to 4,4 the first time that is...xD
Not that overkill tho:O Im surpriced my two 7970's 1000/1500 and 3960 at 4.2 pull 1137 from the socket. I just upgraded from a corsair ax850 wich did the job fine to 4ghz but then for obvious reasons it shut off on higher oc.
Go for it:) It will probably hold up a few more years when you wont push it to the limits. It's over the top overkill for 1 card tho! Any card you can buy today and any cpu won't pull more than you can't feed with 750Watt.
Johnny 5 , optimus prime, dalek , k9, cybermen, Enforcement Droid Series 209 , Robby and Wall-E. The rest is kinda unclear. :) Darn NDA stops me from telling you that you are "wrong" on some points..
OC3D TV Hmm... I would swear I subscribed to your channel before it came out which is why I didn't think to look for it :P But, I trust you're telling me the truth ;) Thanks for detailed reviews.
BTW, that sine wave looks like ass for 300-350! If they'd only put a few more components inside to filter the output, it could look so much better. What a shame, surprise... OC3D just showed the nasty little secret of the PSU.
Its really not a bad unit, its actually quite good. What I was trying to say is there are other units that perform this well too. Also since its first comeinto the office the price is now 250 but I had made the video before having this pointed out to me. It would still get a silver though.
I disliked this video because the review harps on fear-mongering from those ripple test values. Evidently, most reviewers and consumers don't bother to read underlying principles which clearly define power requirements in ATX12V specification: 120 mV is the allowed ripple for +12V rail 50 mV is the allowed ripple for +5V rail Don't get influenced with such trivial values if you can comprehend what I'm saying. Well, this will be quite important if you've an inverter or UPS. Before choosing a PSU, make sure it'll pass the 'Power Good Signal' test.

I am not here because i am thinking about buying one I am here because I like watching your videos.
we need more like you ;)
Idem ^^
8 years later I am watching this - planning to continue to use this baby to power the RTX4090.
Would u recommend it bro, they have specials on them here which ae considerably less then other options and I need something with more power
Yeah cheaper than another psu 😂. I use like u too
Great review. Thank you!
good honest review tom.
Btw they weren't both 24 pins at the back there was 1 10 pin and the one above that was a 18 pin
My Cosmos S (old now :( ) came in a full case size bag just like that. Only case I've ever bought to come bagged.
@TTL: Can you make a review of the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 10 1200W?
Want to know your opinion on it.
I only know WallE and Doctor Who :(

I want that T-shirt!

My corsair ax1200i has the auto to hybrid switch on the psu so there arnt any extra cables
Newer v1200 comes ith silencio fp fan. . Right? Coz new v1000 does

Johnny 5, WAL-E, and one looks like Samus from metroid...
A few look like Johnny 5... ie. The overcoat scene, extended, and collapsed.
It's a nice power supply
Seems great but I am only capable of buying Corsair PSU's for some reason?
I like passive Im a silence freak too
I don't think anyone spotted ED-209 from Robocop. #2 on bottom row.
lovely
Why is ripple bad can anyone explain it to me. How do we know it breaks components where is the proof exactly.
Cooler master 1300w hybrid power supply probably gives the same numbers.
Got mine for 130€ three weeks ago - at that price im not picky. But to be fair i knew what i was getting into with that badboy anyway (ripplewise) so far im very happy with it and until now i actually never even heard the fan - till i overclocked my 3930k to 4,4 the first time that is...xD
i can connect to this PSU 6x GPUs?
Yes, I am runing a mining rig with 6GPU - ZOTAC 1070 extreme amp, each has 2 8-pin power connectors. Everything works fine.
Dr. Rumplin buddy this psu comes with how many pcie dual 8 pin cables ??
Will u plz reply
thanks for the answer
@@rumplin How do you turn on the psu?
Bypassing the PS-ON with the common does not work on this PSU.
You should make the reading metre update faster... it looks like the programs stuttering... unless it is stuttering idk but
thats the read out lol
OC3D TV Yeah i know it was just playing with my OCD lol
I bought this a few months ago and its still in its box. Now i want to send it back :-(
Why?
this is a seasonic X series copycat. Still, it's good to see another implementation.
1200W PSUs are pretty much only for triple card setups. It's not enough for 4 GPUs, but overkill for 2 GPUs.
Not that overkill tho:O Im surpriced my two 7970's 1000/1500 and 3960 at 4.2 pull 1137 from the socket. I just upgraded from a corsair ax850 wich did the job fine to 4ghz but then for obvious reasons it shut off on higher oc.
+ZewRongGuy i'm thinking about getting one for a single setup. haha

So for a big rig I guess the 1500 watt is the real answer.
I wonder how you back up power in such a big rig, 1000 dollars UPS? Not to mention your electricity bill lol gg
dam nice :D
OC3D TV Can you do a review of the www.corsair.com/en-us/ax1500i-digital-atx-power-supply-1500-watt-fully-modular-psu
Already have if you look, I actually talk about it in this video too!

Yeah I noticed lol. But, I'll have to check it out a little bit later on today. Wayy too tired to really focus.

Coolermaster would be comparing it to other PSU's within its price range not PSU's that are more...
So did I......
OC3D TV It sounded like you were talking about the AX1200i which is about $439AUD, the Coolermaster V1200 is ~$318 maybe slightly more AUD...
The RAMPAGE he compared this PSU to giving same results that 2-3 year old PSU's were giving.
