I bought watermelon seeds from the feed store near where I live. They were covered in something that was supposed to help them grow. It was powdery but stuck to each seed. I thought that the seeds would be better but they weren’t. I never got a single watermelon. The first year, I got beautiful long healthy vines and nice flowers and small fruit. The problem was that the fruit wouldn’t grow and it would die and fall off of the vine. So the next year the vines were meh! Got a couple of flowers but nothing turned into fruit. I ended up throwing what was left in the pack into my garden area this year just willy nilly. Nothing germinated! Whatever was on the seeds when I bought them wasn’t meant for a home grower. Loved seeing you garden and all of your cool plants! It was just soooo hot and dry here in Texas this summer that many of my plants and some of our younger trees died. When you’re dealing with 107 everyday and no rain, it’s almost impossible to get good results. I will say my okra is still going strong but I think they like this kind of weather. Since it’s finally calmed down to low 90’s I’ve started thinking about my winter garden. I’ve already gotten some cauliflower, broccoli, red cabbage and green cabbages planted. Also trying to replace some of my herbs that didn’t make it. Thanks for the garden tour! Would love to how Gary’s garden is doing!

How does Gary grow his Macadamia nuts? My husband wants to grow peanuts. Not sure southern Idaho is a good region. We'll have to check our western garden book for that, and I especially loved the very end of your video. Just watching nature, very calming. Until next time, have a blessed weekend. ❤️

Hi, Robbie, I loved your tour. We finally broke the drought this week in Austin, TX! Yea!! A few days of rain after 3 months of dry is welcome. Now the toads and garden snakes and, well, everyone is happy! I have to be sure I keep a rock in shallow water dishes for insects to escape! I rescued some sort of dragon fly from a new birdbath this morning. I saw him struggling on the edge and put him on some kleenex to dry off and then into a safe planter from the wind. I hope he makes it! Anyway, thanks for rhe garden tour! I learned about walking onions FROM YOU! I am intrigued, did research, and just ordered some bulbs to grow from a lady who specializes in this particular plant, has lore galore on her website! But YOU are my mentor! 😊 And hello to that hardworking husband of yours! I moved a tiny fraction of what he moved in wood mulch and I know what a reward it is to see all that wonderful stuff on the pathways! We have muddy soil here and those wood chips are great in my shady backyard where no grass grows. I appreciate it so much! Thanks to the City for trimming trees near utility lines and they offered mulch so my landowner next to me accepted for all of neighbors. Nice! I get some when I have a minute and spread it on those parhways. Anyway....have a wonderful week! ❤ Your puppy is so sweet!

Hopefully, next year the weather will warm sooner and you'll have loads of watermelons!
I started growing food from the seeds of store purchased produce before I knew there are heirloom and hybrid plants. I've never gotten fruit or veg whose seeds wouldn't grow. Only one butternut reverted back to the pumpkin it was crossed with. I get some delish acorn, pumpkin, watermelon, kiss melons
, etc this way. It's always fun to see what I'll get.😃

Last year we planted watermelon from seeds. We ended up with 10 plants. And Im guessing maybe 50 watermelons grew to be about the size you just showed. We ate one that small and it was so good. But tried to let them grow bigger. They all turned black!
Someone told us it was from our pine tree. That it was too acidic. So we cut it down ,Im not sure how long it takes to get the acid out of the soil. Nothing grows well anymore. Maybe its my soil?

That will depend on your weather. If your nights are still above 60, you can start it and keep it in the sun. If your daytime is over 80 you want to only have it get morning and afternoon sun. Keep in mind, ginger and turmeric like heat, but you can sometimes started in the house.

That would also depend on how cold you are, you may be able to set up a small type greenhouse. You might be able to grow certain things on your windowsill or in the house. I can grow walking onions in the house I have mushroom plants and different herbs like mint you can grow on your windowsill. It would depend on how big your yard is and what you are capable of setting up. ❤

It looks like one I found at a garden shop (on clearance, of course!). It dies off, then springs back. I guess it can't make up its mind just exactly what it wants to do! lol!😄One thing though, I am leaving it in a pot; it might take a "yard" (pun intended!) if I give it an inch! 🤣

I have a question Robbie, do you think I should remove my determinate tomato that is growing under he shade on flower bed, it’s not making anymore tomatoes and I made a mistake of pairing with yellow zucchini when you said not to pair them, cuz I watched your video and just found out from your video. I was thinking of planting lettuce cuz it’s shaded with my apricot and Asian pear trees maybe that would be better, you think? Thanks for your advice cuz I don’t have any ground I have all my vegggies in pots besides my 3 flower beds and 2 raised bed I made myself in front of the house which my husband doesn’t want me to do 😔, so the tomatoes aren’t doing well and so the yellow squash under shade tree. I didn’t get any cuz the shade. Thanks Robbie and Gary love you and little Zoe 🥰 🙏🏻♥️ have a wonderful Thanksgiving 🍁🦃♥️

The squash really needs full sun, tomatoes can get a bit less sun , but they need more sun than shade. Lettuce here does great for me in the shade, due to the warmer weather. Just keep trying different things to see what works best in your yard 😊❤️
