- Kevin Frasard BC Rich BEAST Guitar Review
Here are the extra details on the BC Rich Beast neck through guitar that I picked up a couple of weeks ago. In this video I go over how it sounds, plays, balances, comfortability, action, fretwork, pickups, etc. I tried to share as much as possible on this guitar, but the one thing that I did forget to demonstrate was it's ability to fit inside a coffin case. Yes, it does fit inside one of those bad boys and it also does fit for an upcoming Deicide cover!!! Hope you guys enjoy the video and be sure to share, like, and subscribe to this channel. Thank you all so much for watching and take care out there!!!
10:50 - Big Kevin, I got one of the extended-range Solar guitars with a 27" scale, it fixed the entire problem. You can use thinner strings while having tighter tension with lower tunings. I think if you tried a baritone scale, you'd be amazed.
One of my biggest regrets in life is that time I put money down on a neck-thru BC Rich Beast. Right before I slid hard into dope. Once you're on it, only person you're paying off is the man. Went from touring musician with thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Don't even want to consider the sentimental value.
Close to 4 years clean now and slowly gaining the gear back. (FOR YOUR LOVE) Take the plastic off those pickups.
I play a lot of pointy shapes, a Warlock, King V, Star, and X220, and I take the strap and wrap it around the back point, I saw Brian Hoffman and Hobbs do that and it helps with neck dive tremendously, another thing is to take the other strap button and put it in the center of the body, where it will distribute the weight better.
a long neck screw can help you attach it to the joint on bolt ons without drilling a new hole at all. Little tip to save people some effort and time.
That thing looks massive. Bc rich makes the most metal guitars
I've never seen a RUclipsr get as much support as Kevin. The like to dislike ratio, hardly ever gets dislikes.
19:03 - I have the SMG Cock Blocker. *There's no comparison.* It absolutely crushes the Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor. Keeps all your tone in tact. If you're thinking about getting one, I'd order one RIGHT NOW. They're limited production and they'll be gone very shortly. If you miss your chance to get a Cock Blocker, the Fortin Zuul is a _very_ close second.
You inspired me to continue my search for one Kevin, about a month after you posted this video I found my own after a decade of looking for one
How much do they sell fore?
From what I heard Brian Hoffman from Deicide designed them. Eric Hoffman in an interview mentioned BC basically stole the design from Brian
I was told that from Brian. My band opened for deicide years ago and I asked that because I love that guitar
Big Kevin, *have you ever considered having a Tube Screamer or Maxon 808OD to drive the weak pickups harder?* It's always been a great trick for me.
It would sound like everyone else then
I really appreciate your love for metal. it's cool to see someone else who is simply passionate about the sport of metal. your appreciation for guitars is admirable. kick some ass Kevin. if I lived in Michigan I'd be over daily to shred with you without a doubt. I would also attend the gym.
You’d love the Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient set
Gonna pick up my first guitar tomorrow and it’s a bc rich beast… can’t wait.
I've had this guitar for almost 20 years and I would say that it is more of a lead guitar than a rhythm guitar. Anytime I wanted to do chuggy stuff I would use my Jackson Charvel and use the Beast for any leads. It also sounds good with a clean tone for songs like Fade to Black. You do have to mess with the action height for sure. Mine still has all its original parts and once you set the action right you can get some sweet pinch harmonics that last forever. With the locking tremolo and floyd rose bridge you can get some sweet dive bomb and reverse dive harmonics. Still one of my favorite guitars.
You need dual 81s. Kirks old go to setup. An 81 in the neck is surprisingly good for cleans and lead work.
I had 1 of these about 10 yrs ago. Was a great guitar. 🤘🤘🤘
Seymour Duncan Black Winters in that baby.
The Silver-Eyed Lion King Kendal imo they have too much mud, but thats just me. Im an emg 81 guy
Agree...black winters are awesome.
The Fluence Modern Pickups are really good man. If you are going to shop for new pickups.
Cannibal corpse uses em i think
@@blipblorp6347 yep
Bruh. As a joke I was gonna say he should get fishmans and when I go to say that I see this 😂😂😂
I miss bc rich awesome guitars. Have had my platnium series korean warlock for 18 years now, most comfortable guitar ever IMO. Loaded with emg 81s and i routed and added a floyd
You should go with either the 6505 Minihead or the 6505 combo! Both can be found cheap and sound incredible especially with a Tubeacreamer. Also, Peavey is about to release a Peavey Invective mini head, which is basically just a 6505/5150 with more features, built in boost, noise gate, etc... check it out!
I used to gig with my Beast with those stock BDSM's back in the day through a mic'd Crate 2x12 combo...it didn't sound pretty but Black Metal isn't supposed to!
I’m a les Paul guy now but these vids make me so reminiscent of my high school/college warlock
Hey Kev 👍 you said you weren’t a fan of passive pickups anymore. Have you tried any of the bare Knuckle stuff ? The aftermath and warpig pickups are particularly awesome, super tight and dynamic with heaps of balls 💪
I have a warbeast, most of the complaints i have are pretty much the same, except for the pickups. The neck pickup is fine, but i switched out the bridge for a dragonfire screamer 7 string. Definitely check out dragonfire pickups.
I have a 2006 US hand made custom shop Beast bass and I love it
Big Kevin, just food for thought.... I got my all-tube Peavy 120W 6505+ head used on Guitar Center's website for only $565. I guarantee you can find the same kind of deal pop up soon. Just keep a daily lookout and pounce when you see one. Then I got a Harley Benton angled 2x12 cab with Celestion Vintage 30's _brand new_ online for only $230. That's probably the most crushing rig imaginable under $800. A guy like you should definitely have something like that in his arsenal.
I have the boss katana. I got it cause i saw you and ola use it don’t regret it. But I was also looking at getting a EVH 5150 later. Idk if that would be up you’re ally. They sound pretty good. Can’t wait for the covers with that beast dude!
Hi Kev,I have followed you for many years now, I have signed up/subscribed with different accounts because over time I have lost passwords or I have activated multiple users but I follow you regularly, however I really like BC Rich as a company and I own a BC Rich Warlock Bronze series special edition original made in US, I love it, it has a unique sound then with the necessary pedals it does its job and obviously the peculiarity of the shape of the body and headstock conquered me immediately, then used by bands such as suffocation, deicide, cannibal corpse, early sepultura, and so many others in short they make it my family of instruments and absolute favorite brand! I've always dreamed of a warlock beast guitar as well as a bass warlock beast 4/5 strings, you're lucky you have so many cool guitars, all perfect for healthy or better insane and rotten death metal! And sure you definetely have to cover Deicide Dead by dawn on it haha! Stay strong man, keep it Brutal!
Man, I miss my old Beast guitar:(
The Music Palace what happened to her
lol dude I just came across your videos, played guitar a good 10 years back. Getting back into her hard. Really enjoy your content. Near about fell off my chair when you said “ guess I’l play some Metallica” lol. I say that everytime I touch a guitar. No remorse and the four horsemen are some of my favourites to ripp. Take care man
Replaced the stock pick ups for EMG’s 81 & 85
Decent axe tho🤘🏽
A pinch harmonics video would be great
The Yardbirds - For your love 16:00
You are sick good playing guitar ;) so inspired by you Kevin,.. love cheers from Sweden
Fantastic. Time I add a B.C. Rich to my armoury
I just got my Peavey 6505MH (20 watter) today, and holy shit that thing crushes. I've got it running through a Harley Benton 2x12 (V30 speakers) and it sounds amazing, tons of gain, and a surprising amount of low end and body for it being a low wattage head.
I agree with your comments on guitar height. Looks dope af playing l o w but my wrists man jesus. Glad someone I look up to on guitar plays at around the same height I do
Make an 18V mod for EMGs, it's realy easy, just one more battery connector in series. Little louder ,but much more dynamic and clear.
Got one of these this past year and i agree, the pickups SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! i need to run a boost in front of my amp for them to even sound kind of okay.
Wider straps help with neck dive.
Laboga Beast and EQ pedal could be great for you, since that amp has internal load. Revv G20 would be absolutely badass for home playing (also has internal load, but with IRs), but it's much more expensive.
Makron Ravenous Wide strap is a great idea! I’ve been using leather wide straps and won’t go back!
@@pressman1788 I am really curious about Mono straps tho, must be super comfy.
Makron Ravenous Had to look up mono strap, never heard of it. I’ll pick one up.Thanks
Brother I have a 6505+ maybe the best decision I've made in my entire life. That thing delivers every time and under any circumstances. Cheers and keep the metal flow
If your changing pickups, put some Seymour duncan invaders, they have tons of gain and theyll look badass
Exactly but hes into actives. I love invaders very heavy bass thick pup
Try getting the Yamaha THR10X, see if you can pick one up for cheap, crystal cleans with great effects, great thrash rhythms and smooth silky solo tones, wonderful little amp and very easy to set up, yeah get some blackouts in that Beast, would look and sound killer.
i got a old bc rich beast ...got it new 1 single humbucker black and red ....the pick up i bought to put in the guitar cost more then the guitar did .....but i love it ... plays so good man ......and the seymour duncan dimebag pickup i put it in it screams man
Try a Duncan Invader! Karl from nile swears by them and he gets a super crushing tone. Haven't tried them in any of my personal guitars, but plan to in the future
I use em and yes they are very heavy bass and gain is what I love about em they are greater for heavy low tunings I think they are the best passives
Listen, I always swap the magnets in the bcr pickups for an a5 in the bridge and an a5 rough cast in the neck. Makes a world of difference
Both of my B.C. Rich's had really dry fretboards, but once oiled up they went so dark. And through my Marshall micro stack I thought the pick ups were very dry aka a 1 trick pony for hi gain saturation but when I ran it through Marshall 100 watt head through a Mesa 2x12 sounded so great and rounded completely different
I got a B.C. Rich Beast NJ Bolt-on neck Bass yeah neck drive, but I love my Bass, I got two EMG P-Style Active Pickups Geezer Butler Signature, love Peavey Bass Head & Amplifiers
Bc Rich branded pickups arent to bad, but if ya want to try something other than emg, try seymore duncan invaders ,there pretty wicked dude i think youll really like em . .just an idea for ya 🤘
Excellent guitar Bc Rich is kickass
I need to listen to Retribution again.
Fortin Zuul for sure man... I play just solo in the room through a blackstar htmetal 5 watt boosted by the fortin grind and it makes a WORLD of difference passive and active pickups. Also play through an original 5150 and a Bluguitar Iridium in the practice space. So yeah Zuul all the way! Also question... what scale is the Beast?
Some money saving stuff you can do is a magnet swap, I got cheap pickups sound great, by replacing the magnets with Alnico 8 (aggressive like ceramic but also warm as alnico) was so cheap that I ended up changing the slugs and the screws pole pieces as well, and adding wooden spacers, I got those parts at Mojotone an amazing company I do not endorse them or anything but their products are good, is better that get an expensive set of brand new pickups, is very easy to do, there are some video tutorials in YT as well.
Do the version of No Remorse by Cannibal Corpse, that will fit awesome for this guitar ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
hey kev i would defintely look into how to solder, it will make swapping pickups
so much easier
Get seymour duncans with 500k pots, i have invaders and they are sick and passive, i only use 1 volume and bridge pickup so might be higher gain than if you use tone knobs, pickups in the guitar sound good with the amp tho
Decimator noise Gate!!!
Ever tried out the Washburn Dimebag Darrell guitars before Kevin? Theyre some mighty impressive axes. Stay safe brother \m/
Hey man, the plastic is still on the pickups ( or it looks like it. ) That might have something to do with it, but new pickups might help. Also why don't you have a BC RICH Warlock?
Theoretically, plastic shouldn't affect the tone because plastic does not disrupt magnetic fields
Have you by any chance gotten to try a DiMarzio X2N? I’ve heard people say that they’re fairly compressed for a passive pickup.
I also have beast, but bronze series without trem and not neck through, but what i did is adjusted pickup and bridge height, did coil split, and it sounds amazing
Could you do a video on what and where to look for bc rich guitars online?
Get an ISP Decimator II G-String. It's the best Noise Gate out there.
Hey Kevin. You know where you got that dimebag preset? Any way I can get a link good buddy? 😁
I might BC RICH Beast Body Art Collection «Brass City»
I'm curious what you or anyone else thinks about the Extreme series Warlock or Warbeast that are loaded with fishman modern pups. Thanks for this review!
Amp suggestion: Peavey Triple XXX( MK1, not the newest one) on the crunch channel( it says crunch but it`s really more of a balls out chugfest) You may need an od to tighten it up a little bit tho. They ain`t that expensive either, so depending on how much you wanna spend, you may even get a decent 4x12 too 👍 . If it means anythings, Gary Holt from Exodus used one on the Shovel Head Tour Machine dvd 🤘 ( The Wacken 2008 show) But he had a certain way to set it up.
Cemetery Gates! Let's go!
actually, there is a neck tru, string tru beast. its the w.m.d. s.o.b. (son of beast) version. coming with rockfield pickups. i own one
absolute destroyer
2004-05 was going to get one ended up getting the neckthrew Dark Arts enstead. The plastic makes a difference on the pickups
Hello Kevin.where did you buy this black beast guitar? I need to buy one for my son but there 's no shop for sale this kind of guitar and if I buy it from china I have to say that I do not trust.Could you please suggest the reliable shop for me?
A good ol' 6505 made in USA is hard to beat. They are not that expensive and have the same tone as a 5150 (I had both a 6505 and a Block Letter 5150 - no difference apart from the logo)
*That's a fact.* I have my 6505+ running into a Harely Benton angled 2x12 cab with V30's. I have a Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander so I can drive the power tubes up to 8 at a 1.5 volume. Hands-down, the greatest metal tone imaginable.
I use to have a warlock with blackouts and were real good too sold it while ago but I love invaders my fav pickups next to blackouts and are real good heavy bass sound just eq it good
Amazing guitar!!
I think thru a high volume setup, low gain pickups are better.
My old drummer had a red Beast, but his was different for the head stock and haven't seen one like it since. There were no tuners and the string ends sat in the area where the locking nut would be.
Speedloader
i want a guitar like this!! IT'S LOOKING SOOOOO KILLER MAN! Just call to play metal on it :D
Sick guitar and sick shirt!
i found a second hand bc rich beast plainum series, tune o matic, string thru and active pickups for 400€. It only has ruined wings, that most of this guitars have. Do you think i should take it? There aren't so much rewiews about this
I want to be a trembolone king like u!
Did you take the plastic protectors off the pickups?
I'd try Dimarzio pickups, Air Norton and a Tone Zone.
You should do a white writing on that guitar "NO REMORSE" with a sloppy font, that would've been pretty brutal.
Guitar work out time🎸🥁🏋️♂️🏋️♀️
Seymour duncan black winters!!!!
Sick shirt
This was 12 minutes ago how am I not first 😭😂
Are these guitars worth money Iv been offered one that needs work for £125 pounds Stirling..is it worth getting
Y’all give it a rest the plastic don’t do shit,do you not understand how a pickup works?
Maybe try the new Jim Root Signature EMG pickups in that guitar
Is the plastic protective film still on the pickups? Or are my eyes deceiving me?
Dude. ENGL Ironball. I have the Diavlo 45 and it's not bad, but the ENGL kills !!! You can lower it from 20 watts to 5 or 1 watt. TONS of gain. Also, I had the 6505 mini and it was SOOOO noisy. Returned it. Had to use two noise gates to tame it and the tone was just eh.... Maybe had a lemon? The older full 100 watt heads made in the USA were probably better. Also the Hughes and Ketter stuff is great. Annihilator uses them. The PRS MT 15 is great as well. Just get you a good cab.
Def gotta raise action a bit when tuning crazy low w larger strings
Hell yeahh!
Yo Kevin, I think the plastic is still on the pickups, if the plastic is still there taking it off might make a decent difference
With a lower action would a couple mm's even wake them up that much? hmm
I feel like the biggest dudes are the nicest guys
man you should be got a doyle signature model, probably you are the second man on earth who can take that heavy piece of wood xD
What is your band??
Lot of guys agree here invaders man !!!!!!
The Four Horsemen on a guitar that looks like the apocalypse
*this is the way*
