People keep misinterpreting the discourse around this game. Nobody is saying it's awful. The community is generally displeased because the game has all the problems the first one had. It's unfinished and comes nowhere near fulfilling it's potential. It could've been great if it was given the time, resources, and attention the IP deserved. It's nowhere near as good as it could've been.
I may have misinterpreted this. I’ve never played the first game so this was my introduction. However, I fully understand how someone could be displeased by pretty much playing a sequel with all the same issues as the first one and also under delivering in many other parts.
Yeah, most complaints from people who played the first one, lack of different creatures to fight(majority are same.from first game), too many mobs too close together, its just repeat the same thing over and over again when traveling, story too short, unlock certain classes way too late, nothing to do after beating the game. The list gets longer, but will leave it at that.

Its a great game. I know the legitimate reasons for why people were disappointed with it were really two main reasons. 1. The sequel lacked the vocations the original had. Not only does it look awesome but the effects are it increases the range of your sword and adds something like 4 extra hits to each individual hit. It absolutely shreds through things. 2. i wouldnt say a bad game, just a slight downgrade with way too much hype due to the first game having a cult following
Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen is better in every aspect
Personally this was the most disappointing game i have ever played in my entire life (and i played cp2077 at launch) to have so much time to make a sequel and to for it to somehow be WORSE than the original game is completely baffling to me. Im just hoping that a really damn good dlc can make this into the game it was supposed to be.
But no seriously how do you release a sequel to a game 12 YEARS later with LESS monster variety in it than the original. How? How was not bumping up the enemy variety not the first priorty when developing this game? What in the actual fuck was that story? How do you 4x the world space with LESS dungeons and points of interest than the first game? Im getting pissed just thinking about it.... i will never get hyped for another game as long as i live
