I use a cyclone, a hepa filter and a bag with my shop vac. It will save your filter from getting clogged.

I used a wet vac to clean up the desk but it seems like there's some lingering on the floor ?

Also he specified "wet vac" because if you use a normal vacuum it bypasses the filtration system and blankets the room with dust.
