Cleaning up after drywall finishing

  • It's not fancy, glamorous, or fun but it needs to be done! This is what we do at the end of every job - scrape, sweep and vacuum. We try and leave the job clean, take out our trash (as long as there's a dumpster provided), and make things easier on the trades following us. I'm using a floor scraper, small broom and a big soft shop broom.

    In my 30 years of doing this I have NEVER seen a drywall boarder or taper and mudder clean up after themselves. Ever. It’s nice to see you encouraging this to raise the bar over all.

      Nice to see a pro, too many think their time is too valuable to finish the job.

      Sad to hear this! I can’t stand the thought of someone else cleaning up after I sand a job out! Even if they say they’ll do, they don’t! It’s my service!

      Here in Denmark, we do both the drywall mudding etc. And paint or do pre wall hangings before we prime an do the painting. No drywall mudding companies here, mudding and paint is part of the painting trade here. And Yes we allways scrape, clean and vacuum before we leave for the next trade to take over.

    YES!!! YES!!! end the day with a clean job site so you can start the day with a clean job site. It really does improve your overall attitude at the end of the day and then for the following start of the day.

    Wow! When doing new construction finish carpentry I hardly ever remember drywallers sweeping and vacuuming up after themselves. It's always horrible to install baseboard and the puff of air from the nail gun would always shoot up drywall dust into ones face. I hated it. I always clean up after myself. I consider it part of my job, because it is. Thank you for being a decent person and trying to educate others.

    Any recommendations for cleaning up drywall dust after sanding? I know I am sanding too much but that doesn't sound the cleaning it up issue

      Sure, a shop vac can help with the floors and a big soft mop head for the walls. Just make sure whatever touches the walls is soft, no sharp parts or it will scratch the walls

      That’s how the hangers get away with gaps like in the last video they clean up Superviser just sees a winning setter.
      Not the thousand screws hanging out or the busted sheet just a clean floor 🤷🏻‍♂️

    We put our snap in vinyl plank floor down ourselves. Then had the walls done and the dry waller left drops all over the place and walked on the drops for weeks. After they left we have mopped and scrubbed and scraped to get the mud up, but it is still there in the groves and crevices. Is there any trick to cleaning it at this point or are the floors ruined?

    ????? Hello drywall shorty, my drywall finish was smooth BUT, when i sprayed primer and it dryed screw indentions appeared. What gives ??

    • @DrywallShorty
      @DrywallShorty  Год назад +1

      It could be a moisture issue with the drywall board. Have you had the temperature and moisture consistent? If there are big fluctuations in temp and humidity the drywall board can hold or release moisture causing the screws to shrink or swell. I would try and run some dehumidifiers in the job, keep the temp as close to 70 as possible and let it dry out for a couple days.
