I wish to save the rainforest and promote alternative means of livelihood for the local communities. The Amazon does account for rain bearing clouds. Is it possible if we can use some of the vapor in atmospheric vapor converters to obtain fresh water for drinking and agriculture. Can we use hydroponics to minimize the need for more farmland and shift to vertical farming. Hydroponics can also provide fodder for cattle.
Sooo rip animals that past because of the fire 😭😭 and, the government set the Amazon on fire so everything is gonna cost even more #its all about money #again rip animals
If?! Has anyone checked the Amazon satellite imagery on Google Earth over the past decades? They keep on clearing it in numerous places, it's alarming what's happening in some Brazilian states! Why has Norway been funding to Brazil's Amazon Fund if it's clear not much was being made?! Where is all the wood going to? Who is buying it? And for what? And who's buying what's being cultivated where it was deforested? Shouldn't those products be at least boycotted internationally outside of South America?...
@Akaza Akari Except that it seems to be only on the Brazilian side that the Amazon is being cleared the most... are they eating meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?! I know they love 'rodizio' but the USA has more people and probably eats more meat too, and they don't seem to need as much farm land for livestock as Brazilians do! There's obviously a much more complex explanation as to why things are the way they are on the Brazilian side of the Amazon!
@Akaza Akari "biggest beef exporter in the world", that means that if the world is really worried about preserving the Amazon, there's now a good reason to boycott the import of beef from Brazil... you proved my point! :)
Global drout? I'm wondering if there are no more trees to hold all that water, where does the water go? I'm assuming to the ocean. But as it mixes with the salt water, the surface of the ocean becomes less salty, therefore less dense, and most of the fresh water is going to sit at the surface. But at the same time evaporation rates increase as salinity decreases. Where is the water going?

What right do we have to tell them what they can or cant do? Our protection of the land to them can be the fuel to want to burn it. It also doesnt help that bolsonaro doesnt believe in global warming.
@@mv8957 Yeah it's basically US and Europe telling them "Well we cleared all our forests hundreds of years ago, and used them to become highly developed, so don't dare to clear out yours!"
An interesting question is whether forests can go past some critical tipping point where lack of forest causes reduced evaporation, causing reduced forests.
That's not an impossible scenario. The CO2 threshold may already be crossed. It took a hundred years to get it to accelerate to where it is now. If we stop pumping all CO2 into the air it would still continue to accelerate for another century because we set in motion natural processes that are contributing more CO2 to the air so it's self-feeding cycle.
Yes, there's even a name for that: "ponto de não retorno da Amazônia" or "Amazon's point of no return". If we deforest about 25% of the forest, by 2040 the biome will become dryer, especially because of a chain effect, like you stated. Cutting down trees equals less evapotranspiration which equals drier weather which equals more fires which equals even less trees. By the way, the amazon soil is actually very poor, so the reason it has so much biodiversity is that it has a lot of plant litter. The more we deforest, the less likely it is for the forest to ever recover. Once it gets to the non-returning point, it will never be the same biome as it once was, but a drier one more and more vulnerable.

As a country with an economy base on exporting natural resources, it’s impossible for us to just stop, besides that the country’s that are creating protective barriers against Brazil are the ones that explore almost all of their resources making them hypocrites.the way Brazil is exploring its resources isn’t practical or sustainable. There is a fine line to be walked by the word leaders and that’s sustainable exploration up to a point and concrete investment in turning Brazil’s northern region in to a scientific study’s and technological/pharmaceuticals center state
What I don't like, is that he doesn't mention that water is the main greenhouse gas, and with less of it in the atmosphere, so things might be different
If you let commercial interests do the job, you'd end up with the former rainforest turning into a desert to rival the Sahara, within a few short years. Moreover, there would be no natural processes left producing Oxygen, and either we would adapt to needing less Oxygen and enduring a higher level of CO2 in the air we breathe, or we wouldn't, with easily predictable results.

Well that was depressing
Brazil has every right to make their land usable. The earth can take care of itself.
did you not watch the video? this is throwing the land in the garbage, not making it useful, as most of the soil would be unuseable for agriculture

Large swaths of Indonesian rainforests are national parks. Palm plantation owners still slashed and burned it down. When the minister was shown this: palm plantations in a national park in front of his own two eyes, he denied it.
Bolsonaro has not only decreased regulations on legal clearing, he has also looks the other way when people shred the forest to sell to farmers.

What if the sahara desert was transformed to a forest
Pretty sure their already is one
would likely decay as a result of it's latitude, and absence of main warm currents around it
@@jdhabdsudcbld Prove it.
@@MrAmhara The Sahara is below a high pressure zone, which makes the area almost automatically dry. This happens along the 23.5° lattitude, either North or South. However, this can be avoided with the pressence of a warm water current. But the water current along Morocco and Mauritania comes from the North Atlantic which is cold.

We would need to get a LOT of water there first for it to sustain those kinds of forests.
@@donotcare57656 I don't see you complaining about the idea
@@yanowic9107 What I'm saying is that it's completely unrealistic with our current technology, terraforming on that scale would require ridiculous amounts of energy.
@@donotcare57656 currently is the key word
@@donotcare57656 It can be done. See the Sahara Forest Project. Basically, once you plant some trees and cover crops to keep the soil in place, the trees will create a more moist microclimate ("trees create their own rain"). Using solar panels to supply the needed energy, you gradually expand forestation further into the desert.

@@summer-sk1xn alright cool.
Looks like we're about to find out firsthand
Global drout? I'm wondering if there are no more trees to hold all that water, where does the water go? I'm assuming to the ocean. But as it mixes with the salt water, the surface of the ocean becomes less salty, therefore less dense, and most of the fresh water is going to sit at the surface. But at the same time evaporation rates increase as salinity decreases. Where is the water going?

An interesting question is whether forests can go past some critical tipping point where lack of forest causes reduced evaporation, causing reduced forests.
That's not an impossible scenario. The CO2 threshold may already be crossed. It took a hundred years to get it to accelerate to where it is now. If we stop pumping all CO2 into the air it would still continue to accelerate for another century because we set in motion natural processes that are contributing more CO2 to the air so it's self-feeding cycle.
Yes. In fact Amazon rainforests are so well studied, we know that removing 30-50% of it will cause a total collapse. It's very well established.
It's already on fire😢

If you let commercial interests do the job, you'd end up with the former rainforest turning into a desert to rival the Sahara, within a few short years. Moreover, there would be no natural processes left producing Oxygen, and either we would adapt to needing less Oxygen and enduring a higher level of CO2 in the air we breathe, or we wouldn't, with easily predictable results.
