Fungal Matter is a poetry chapbook by British poet Adam Gary on his recent struggles with his mental health.
In this video I read 'Geiger is Screaming Now', a poem inspired by the image of the Zombie Ant, where the fungus Cordycept controls the ant until it eventually dies, and the fungus grows through the ant's skull. Sometimes my mental health beats me up enough that it feels like my brain is trying to break through my skull, which is what inspired this piece. Also, when I am particularly harsh on myself and feel like I am losing control of my mind, my ears almost explode, and I hear a brown noise of sorts... not too dissimilar to the Geiger reader which picks up on nuclear radiation.
