The candy shops in the city center are a new trend that popped up during pandemic. Before pandemic there were waffle with nuttella places on those spots. They are a tourist thing just like the amount of cheese shops. See the city center as an Amsterdam themepark targeted at tourists.
Amsterdam on a sunny day cannot be compared to the weather you had. On warm sunny days chillen in the Vondelpark . Drinking a beer on a terrace on one of the canals. It’s a complete other story.
@@maccalam-bf6vf There is only one Amsterdam 😛 The point was that when you’re unlucky visiting the city while its raining, which bad luck they had, it’s a complete other experience
To answer your "candy" question: It seems you were hanging around in the centre most of the time, there is a lot of candy shop's specially for tourists.. funny enough. If you go outside the centre more, you will find way less candy shops. Nice video and great to hear you like'd our city
Most hotels allow you to drop off your luggage before the official 'check-in time' (usually 15.00h). Also, in my experience, if you show up early the room may be ready already.
On food.... and European laws....the ingredients are probably quite different in the European versions of cereals and such. It's not that cereals are banned or other types of foods... its about ingredients.
The Netherlands is not just Amsterdam. There are plenty older cities to see. eg. Utrecht, The Hague (Den Haag), Rotterdam, Den Bosch, Amersfoort etc.. with lots of old architecture and of course new. Also see some other channels from US Expats like: Buncharted, Soul to Soul travels etc. and even a channel about Dutch (eg.cycling) infrastructure from Not Just Bikes. Enjoy your holidays!
I have been trying to persuade my boyfriend that we should go to Amsterdam. He isn't having it, and I don't know why. I'm sure he thinks that unless you're on a plane for 3+ hours it isn't worth it, and being Scottish, Amsterdam is only 90 mins away! That's a bonus if you ask me!
Obviously photographs of any city anywhere used to promote the place are a) taken in the most ideal situation (golden hour, not 2pm on a cloudy day in early March) b) processed to really pop! Come back in July on a nearly, but not quite cloudless, hot summer day, half an hour before sun down (say 21:30) and take that picture again... with the sky lit by the setting sun and the streetlights reflected in the water....
Hi.amsterdsm is for us european also very special. Food, smoke Marihuana or the Red Light Distrikt. If you like european citiesgo to Barcelona in Spain. And you are right the vibes are very special .bye from mario
Lots of sweets and junk food because all tourist’s have the munchies the centre is a tourist trap. 15 min walk out of the city prices drop food is great as are the locals
It didn't hold back so many painters who depicted old historic cities in the Netherlands with their melancholical gloom in autumn and winter even from on the fifteen- and sixteen-hundreds themselves till the beginning of the twentieth century !
Amsterdam is not anymore the sex and drugs capital of the world. I don't know what you are talking about. If there is drugs, it is what we call soft drugs and there is a lot of cocaine. But hardly any heroin anymore. As for the US products, all products sold in the EU must comply with EU standards. So, if you see US products, they are different from what is sold in the US. And as for filming, it is legal to film in public places in the Netherlands, even when people or children are in the picture, as long as you don't film them exclusively or explicitly. This is a bit more free than in Germany, for example. Generally nobody cares in the Netherlands being filmed, is my experience.
Seems you acted as real tourists and visited just a lot of the obvious tourist traps. And you staid for most in part of the center where only the tourists go. There is so much more. And yes, sun or cloudy weather makes a lot of difference in colors and athmosphere in a city
1 technical comment: Try to incorporate more static shots. A constantly moving camera makes a very nauseating video. Unfortunately people go to Amsterdam to find the stereotypes they picture Amsterdam is. And that makes a less favorable tourist industry just for the crowds that are searching for that extreme experience. There is so much more than that.
Yes, that’s our point exactly. The photos are so edited that it sets an expectation before you see them in person and the real thing usually isn’t as saturated and vibrant as the over-edited pictures. Which is why we don’t filter anything. We want people to be able to see what it ACTUALLY looks like
You nailed the atmosphere and a small part of the city centre perfectly! It is mostly grey, but beautiful. ❤

See the city center as an Amsterdam themepark targeted at tourists.
I see that you already liked the city on a few grey winterdays, imagine how the city feels on more sunny days in spring, summer and autumn 😉
That exactly what we were thinking. We’re hoping to go back when the weather is nicer!

we 100% agree. We can't wait to go back when the wether is better!
You can do that in every city in the Netherlands and it will be cheaper to in other cities Amsterdam is real expensive

Thanks for letting us know! Amsterdam is one of the best cities we've been too so far!

correct. That is what we do every time we go to a new place
On food.... and European laws....the ingredients are probably quite different in the European versions of cereals and such. It's not that cereals are banned or other types of foods... its about ingredients.
That makes sense!
Good music choice in the vid! I liked it ✌😊
thanks so much!

Thanks for the tips! We want to return to the Netherlands so bad and see other cities!

That is such a good insight and we'll have to do that. Thanks!
Because they change the ingredients to be eligible to import/or are made in the EU.
The US should change SO many ingredients in their food 😂
@@travelunflitered Exactly! Sadly that won't happen as long corporate interest are the measure. It is one of the reasons 46.6% of Americans are obese.

Thanks for the heads up!
Lovely video.
Thank you very much!
The local don't tend to care what the tourists are doing as long as they are not being a nuisance. BUT once you live here, the Dutch are nosy af.
That’s super good to know. Thanks for the info!
That’s all for the tourist THEY ARE THE ONES HO SMOKE THE MOST WEED ,NOT THE DUTCHES.
Very interesting! Thanks for the info!

Most cities in winter are depressing. Go in the summer and live on a house boat.
Such a great idea! Thanks for the tip!

what do you mean, it looks different? tell me which kind of pictures made you think it looked different?
All you gotta do is search them on google images and you'll see how saturated with color they are. Simple google search my guy
@@travelunflitered Well, it's obvious that people manipulate their photos before posting online, no?
