Hi mate great review of the Dan Wesson 715 series. Like you I am a retired Police Detective. I live in the uk. I carried in my many different roles as a Detective, back in the 80s a S&W model 10. In the 90s Barretta 90 2F. As you are probably aware, we are not allowed to own real pistols in the UK, however I have a small collection of replica air pistols. I have recently seen the Smith & Wesson .4 4 Magnum 629 competitor reviewed by another RUclipsr. I would love you to give your thorough rundown of this particular air pistol and in particular the pellet firing version, thanks once again. Keep up the good work. Best regards, Chris.

Hello JC, Really like your reviews and have gotten into airguns after watching your cowboy lever action vid. Your explanation on the 2 types of shells for the gun was the first (I believe) and best at the time (subbed). OK, just bought the 2.5 ASG wheel gun and the gun arrived DOA. The safety located on the left side was stuck in the lock position making the gun completely inoperable. I called Amazon and they gave me a refund (thanks!) since they didn't accept returns. They told me to keep the gun... After getting my refund, I put on my Bubba hat to see if I could figure out what was wrong. I pounded on the safety with a stout plastic punch and whoa! - the safety loosened up and the gun was working -- almost!?? I can pull the hammer and trigger now and reengage the safety, but the cylinder rotates in BOTH directions even with the safety ON. Is this normal? Also, I loaded it up with CO2 and pellets and the dern thing shoots very well at 7 yds!!, but the trigger is gritty. Don't know how long this gun will hold up, but I'm on the plus side with the refund. Got the 4" and 6" coming today for grandsons - hope they work.
Thank you for the video. I don't own any revolvers, but I am considering getting one. I was wondering if you or your subscribers clean air gun barrels? If so, when and how? Thank you!
I will eventually do a video on that. I clean the barrels during the break-in period, then again every 800-1000 rounds. Airguns are in no way like a firearm. The only residue you remove is what is left behind from the lead. They stay pretty clean.
@@AirgunDetectives That is true but... 'airguns' is a wide category and as wide as it is, ammunition is also very much an area where one need to understand what caliber, type and diameter of pellets in order to truly define a proper cleaning 'schedule'. That's just my idea. When you venture into the more specialized pellets in or above .22 range... Diameters sometimes vary from one to 3-4 thousands and that can potentially add some unplanned cleaning chores. I have one with 2.5 inch barrel. But mine is loaded with steel BB's. It's made like a good quality firearm. I'm close to buying one of these, the 4 inch version. The one I saw has a 2.7J sticker on it. Did yours come with such a sticker too? I ask because you're consistently shooting above 2.7J
Thank you! I've been looking at all metal revolvers but they all seem to have the same issue - cheap plastic grips! Now that I know these have really nice grips I'm definitely going with one of these now! Thanks for pointing that out! 👍
I have the 4" PELLET version. They do sell a BB and a PELLET version, so be careful which one you buy! The 4" has a picatinny rail under the barrel. I installed a laser on rail, and still able to use open sights on top! I sighted in at 60ft. It shoots 2" group free hand at that range.

Hi JC, nice review. Which model and barrel length would you recommend for a revolver pellet gun. Dan Wesson, S&W M29? I have a Crosman Vigilante which has good power and accuracy. Looking for a replica DA revolver with similar performance. Thanks!
I have all three pellet versions. Like the finish on the 6 inch version. Not a fan of the rail on the z4 inch version. Here is a tip if you like to practice drawing from holster. The old Roy Baker holsters for a Python work perfectly, including th 4 inch version with the rail. Don’t care for the included speed loader. Have HKS speed loaders , and the Dan and other medium frame aColt and S&W 357 versions work well.
Would you say that you would get a similar group at 5 meter with the 715 (6" version), that you would at 10 meter (twice the distance) with the P-17 (HW40)?
Hi, amazing information. Can you compare the Dan Wesson 715 to the Crosman SR357 and Umarex UX357? Trying to decide which one to get and what specifically is worth the extra money. I own the Crosman SNR357 and absolutely hate the plastic wobbly hammer and toy-like trigger feel but I like how solid the cylinder mechanism is. Thank you!
Having recently gotten into this air gun stuff, I am infatuated with these works of art. I would buy the 4” or 6” in a heartbeat (preferably the 4”), but I cannot find one website with them in stock. I will definitely wait a while, but any pointers on how to acquire one of these would be much appreciated!
I have the DW 6'' pellet gun, but it's not the 715. The cylinder release latch is where it should be, in back of the cylinder and is also the thumb safety, where it should be also. It is chrome and very silvery instead of steel gray. The cartridges are loaded by screwing off the front n placing the pellet there. The CO2 capsule is hard to insert because the grip cover is hard to take off. But certainly the DW's are the best CO2 revolvers.
I have those models as well. Not as authentic, the true DW has the cylinder release in front of the cylinder. Those screw off pellet shells are horrible and they lack velocity. Use the same rear loading shells like in the 715 and you'll get much higher velocities and better accuracy. They work perfectly in the older DW models. 😉👍
It uses the same cartridges as the Remington 1875/Sheridan Cowboy, so if you also have a Remington 1875/Sheridan Cowboy (I do 😊), you have more cartridges, without having to buy them. 😎

Many revolvers! Sweet! Do only own the Remington 1875, but this will be interesting.. I assume these also got a spring loaded inner barrel. Not bad accuracy imo. Dunno about those light weight H&Ns though. Might affect somehow - but I am not that much into H&N pellets myself to be sure of anything. My Sig M17 at least shot H&N Field Target Trophy Greens up/right even though Crosman Match and my RWS wadcutter pellets were dead on center of bullseye at 20ft. Not much into revolvers myself. But this review kinda got this model in the back of my head. Considered myself the Gamo PR-776. Surely not as realistic as these - but I really like the idea of the rotary mag within the cylinder. Been so fed up with loading separate cartridges for the Remington 1875 myself ..😂 PS. Dan in the intro of a video about Dan Wesson revolvers? 😁👍
@@AirgunDetectives I think my dad has one of these Wesson revolvers.. Not sure if is BB or pellet though. But I'd definitely get a pellet shooter myself. Maybe 4" or 6".

Hi, I have ordered the 2.5 inch pellet pistol in steel grey, mainly because I think from your video you mentioned the steel grey had a better quality looking finish. I have time to change this order to the silver, would you still say the steel grey has the better look? Unfortunately due to covid I cannot visit my rfd to check in person. Great videos I'm really enjoying them, and now seeking a blowback pellet gun to compliment my Dan wesson revolver. Again, I like the look of the beretta but I want the slide, double and single action, and open eject port, and looking for black or black and silver. Again which pistol would you recommend? Thanks again keep up the good work. Your garden looks awesome too!
John , I clicked the link and it says it cannot be shipped to my location. (San Diego) ????? An hour of searching and Amazon considers this to be a firearm. IDIOTS !!!
So… respectfully, your grouping has everything to do with your aim. You aim with tilted head and that’s why you were mostly up and to the right. That’s a habit a lot of shooters pick up and if you keep doing it, it’ll become hard to let go. Shoot with straight head and eventually with both eyes open. Love your channel and your videos. You’re awesome.
🤣Respectfully, you could shoot upside down and use a mirror, as long as you aim in the same spot you will have consistent grouping. Head position is completely irrelevant as long as you have a consistent sight picture. That is why you have "adjustable " sights. I do appreciate your input. I am sure a level head does look much more esthetic. My shooting style, maybe unconventional, but it has worked quite well for me for 40 plus years. You think that's bad I am most comfortable shooting pistols right-handed and rifles left-handed. Happy Shooting 🤣
the Semi Auto's should be called Asthmatics ...pulling the trigger causes coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when you fire the gun and shortness of fps and fpe. same for revolvers, AIR GUNS SHOULD BE CALLED WIMPY GUNS. THE AIR VALVES COULD BE MADE MORE POWERFUL !!!!!!!!!

@@AirgunDetectives Just to let you know i pick up my Dan Wesson 715 today I went with you on this one and got the 4" model it was very well balanced and looks the best 😍 I am blown away of the quality too, so pleased I watched your channel thank you ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I don't like the shells. I like the old school "357-6" with the disc that holds 10 pellets, which is way better than 6. Realism or not.
Plus you have to double load.
Load the shells, then load the shells in the gun.
You look like a cool fella
Been so fed up with loading separate cartridges for the Remington 1875 myself ..😂
PS.
Dan in the intro of a video about Dan Wesson revolvers? 😁👍
Trust me Bror, these are awesome. You need to add one of these to your collection! 😉👍
@@AirgunDetectives I think my dad has one of these Wesson revolvers.. Not sure if is BB or pellet though. But I'd definitely get a pellet shooter myself. Maybe 4" or 6".
The real Dan Wesson 715 - 4 inch, does not have a rail right?
Try different pellets.ive never heard of the ones you use
I,m drooling i want!!!
I believe the safety is a legal requirement, for airguns.
We’ll I guess if he’s saying there are no negatives and it’s coming from a former police officer, it must be true 😃
do you think this handgun would be good for protection against animals while i ride my dirtbike in the mountains?
I really want one but the reviews on amazon scare me. I assume people just got duds but I dont want to be one of those people if QC is down the drain.
There is always going to be defective items with any product. All mine were just fine. If you get one that does not work properly simply exchange it. So make sure you test it when you first receive it. Any issues, send it back👍
@@AirgunDetectives You're right. May I ask how many rounds you've put through them on average?
@@solidus1995 several 100 across the board. Randomly used over the last few years. Make sure you use pelgun or chamber oil, just a little drop, on the tip of the Co2 capsule each time you charge it. Also, don't store the Co2 in the gun. Remove it after your shooting session.
Having the scope ruined the test
Great Videos You now have another sub hope it helps
Dude!? You had to buy your service pistol??? That couldn't have been Trudeau, no offense. Hrrrmmm...
John , I clicked the link and it says it cannot be shipped to my location. (San Diego) ????? An hour of searching and Amazon considers this to be a firearm. IDIOTS !!!
Just like RUclips continues to restrict my videos for monetization because they classify them as "firearms" They drive me insane 😒
Mike...I think you can pre-order from the larger online retailers.
