It's going slower since it's working the gears inside the differential 100% of the time. Normally, the planetary gears in the diff are standing still when it's going in a straight line, and only move slightly when you turn. That little bit of added drag just dogs it. You can lock the diff for sure tho. It's exactly what's inside a Peerless 206, just the spider gears (planetary gears whatev you wanna call em) are contained inside the bull gear so it's easier to lock. Ive taken JB stick weld and just crammed it in there, put the cover back on the bullgear, slid the axle shafts back in and let it harden. Doesn't have to stick to the gears or anything, just makes a hard blob inside so nothing can spin inside the diff. My HPI Savage has a 2 speed with a 3rd servo to shift into reverse. I have no idea how that thing works. Haven't been brave enough or had a reason to open it to look inside. I dont see why you couldn't "adapt" a transmission like that into a Rustler. It would just go in 90° different from the Savage, the output shaft for the front wheels would be the right wheel, rear output goes to the left wheel, and no differential. Plus, you'd have a disk brake still.
Yeah, I am wondering if I can fit a Jato 3.3 transmission in here so that will it can have a two speed gearbox. Looks like it might fit but idk for sure.
@@IngenTechNational if you can get the spur and the pinon to match, then its just a matter of getting the axles to the right lenght. Not very familiar with a Jato, but the Savage gear box would be way too huge after i went and looked at it. Tried to imagine it fitting in my RC10 GT2 and was like, "nah." Side note, my RC10 came with this like restrictor inside the carburetor and this big solid plastic piece inside the gas tank. Did your Traxxas have anything like that? Cause idk wtf they were for, other than some sort of racing regulations.
@@dogsandwich77 I don't really know man about that lol. I used to have a Redcat Earthquake 3.5 before this and it would never shift into second gear which is why I got rid of it. It the transmission for the Jato was kind of on the cheap side I would by it and make it fit in the Rustler but it is around $100 so you know lol.
@@IngenTechNationalonly time mine doesn't want to shift is if the carb isn't tuned right, or old gas, basically if it doesn't rev out it wouldn't shift. I also think it has some kind of adjustment, like a spring or something idk. Totally different truck tho. The later Savages have 3 speed, like godam how fast does it get to before you're out of range?! Them again, mine is a Savage 2.5 from like 2006 and it uses crystals for the radio and receiver. Has a big ass antenna hahah
This test would probably be better with electric but none of them were working at the moment so that's why I had the use the nitro lol!
