Yakuza drive Benz, BMW, RR or sometimes Lexus. They never drive Toyota Century. This is for Royalty, the Prime Minister and CEOs of large, conservative corporations.
It definitely looks more presidential/official than Bentleys or Rolls Royces which both have become more show-offy recently. I'd say it has a different demographic certainly.

I really suggest reading motor trend's article about the car. It is beyond a rolls Royce, a completely different league. While Rolls Royce is associated mostly with middle eastern dictators and newly rich rappers who care mostlt about the bling and status. The century is truly a piece of art with strong ties to tradition and mythology that spans thousands of years.
Lovely car. It's interesting how Japanese consumers can accept a Toyota into the same top league as a Rolls or Bentley, while German customers (and European customers in general) refuse to accept the advanced, capable and hi-tech VW Phaeton into the less prestigious league that includes the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and junior MB S Class models. Even more interesting since the Phaeton shares the same platform as an A8 and lower Bentley models.
There are five other smart reasons on why the interior is wool on a Toyota Century. The first one is that wool is FAR better at hiding odors, the second one is that wool dries a LOT better than leather, the third one is, unlike leather, which can shrink and warp around moisture, wool still retains its shape with moisture, The fourth reason is, also unlike leather, wool still retains its strength after being made wet and dry again, unlike leather, which can become brittle, and the fifth, and final, reason is that wool also dries a lot quicker than leather.
Most automotive leather comes from cows. Cows are generally killed for meat, not leather. In fact less than 5% of the value is in leather. So in a sense this is sustainable use of a waste byproduct.
Haters don't get this car. It's rarer than a Bentley and Rolls. It has a single objective, to give it's passengers a luxurious ride. It meets that objective with flying colours. Fans of frills with the need to show off based on non-japanese thinking won't get it. The point of this car is understated luxury, for old money and a certain cultural mindset. Brash look at me types need not apply.
Yo Yo I presented my opinion. And your response is that? Edited: Would appreciate if you want to a counter opinion actually. For example, do you think a Mulsanne is more luxurious than this or more understated or more special (does if have an exclusive engine for example) or anything else. I am open to discussion and would be very happy indeed to participate.
Yo Yo nothing wrong with that term. Haters mean people who hate it and if you look at some of the comments, it is pure hatred. Example : Japanese piece of shit. It is just a Toyota. Looks like it's made in China. Etc etc. Now, you called me a piece of shit. So whose credibility is at stake here? Anyway, I don't let petty insults get to me. So do you want to discuss it properly or not?
TsLeng People who have differing opinions are haters to you. You killed that opportunity. Also, I read your comment and you came across that way. Luxury is not understated. You just like the car. Thats fine.
after reading the comments i realised it would be better that the century remains JDM forever. after all, those guys who said they hate it probably end up importing them 25 years later. ohh you didn't like supra? now you're buying one for 50k you dum dum. that's something i like from japan, they still live in the 20th century and that's good

lucien loch if i had 100k and a LHD model. i'll definietly love to have a brand new century. i've touched old centuries and i can't describe how good they look and feel in person. they are just amazing. i even saw a rare 1980's one (they are rarer than 1970's ones) with the touch a/c panel and they look goregeous!
For those of you who don't know, here's a fact you might want to know. The driver's and passenger's seats of automobiles were originally designed based on those of horse-drawn carriages. The seats for the passengers and the interior walls of the doors were made of luxurious and cozy wool. On the other hand, the driver's seat outside was made of leather, both for the buttocks and the back. This was because the driver's seat had to be made of leather to withstand the rain and wind. Wool is too delicate and luxurious for the driver's seat. In the traditional sense, the interior and seats made of wool are the original luxury of the vehicle, something that only the masters can enjoy.
I don't see why all the venom folks. Not everyone likes the type of vehicle that screams "Oooh look at me!". Some folks actually really appreciate a comfortable and reliable ride. Leather is highly overated and high maintainance. It looks shitty when it creases and cracks. Bottom line is everyone has their own taste. The person who buys this may not be a fan of Bentley/RR. If they wanted to they'd buy RR, they would. Pointless bellyaching either way!
Fabric seat, agree. It's not only the heat and sweat, which is why they offer aerated seats (pay pay pay). It is also that a leather cover never gives in and adopts to the body contours the way a fabric can.
The Century is vastly more elegant than either the RR/Bentley or MB product. If you have a lucrative football contract, get the others; but, if you own the teams, get the Century.
I applaud Toyota for their Rolls Royce vehicle . This is another amazing product designed and engineering by Toyota's engineering experts. Great interior and exterior features in the Rolls Royce Century in Style and comfort. Keep up the good work at Toyota.
I think it has character, personality and is legendary. It has a very nice mix of retro and modern cars equipment, not too many modern electric systems that will start to fail and become a pain in the ass to fix.
Interesting car. I think it looks good, albeit in a typically derivative Japanese way. As is often the case, the design clearly tells you exactly who the designers were aiming for. But this isn't just an inferior copy of a Rolls or Bentley. It's clear that they pulled out all the stops, and didn't cut any corners with this version of the Century. And the Japanese quirks manage to make it quite different and Un-British, and far more interesting as a result. I think the front actually looks better than the new Rolls, which just looks crude and awkward to me. What's surprising is that the front of the Toyota is actually more restrained and classier than that of a new Rolls. Being Japanese, however, it wouldn't be surprising if this car is more reliable as well, despite the complexity of a hybrid drivetrain. Too bad it's JDM only, and can't be sold here. My guess is that there are some car nuts who would really like to get their hands on one, and so would I. I think it would look quite at home garaged in between a new Rolls and Bentley.
Yes,but now it has the V8+electric motors of the old LS600h and IMO for the purpose of this car it's a much better option.Knowing that this car will be driving the narrow streets of Japan, running in EV mode will be much quieter than with the old V12.
If its a luxury limo and you'd more than likely have someone else drive it with you in the back then its with the Phantom and the Mulsanne not the ghost and the spur bc those are luxury cars that you'd drive yourself not have someone drive you around in it

I drive a 1997 V-12 here in Japan. It’s great.
There are five other smart reasons on why the interior is wool on a Toyota Century. The first one is that wool is FAR better at hiding odors, the second one is that wool dries a LOT better than leather, the third one is, unlike leather, which can shrink and warp around moisture, wool still retains its shape with moisture, The fourth reason is, also unlike leather, wool still retains its strength after being made wet and dry again, unlike leather, which can become brittle, and the fifth, and final, reason is that wool also dries a lot quicker than leather.
and you can sit naked on wool
and wool is quieter to sit on
2, 3, 4 and 5 are all the same thing. Wool dries better after getting wet. Noted.
And last but not the least.. you don't kill slaughter blood & gore poor animals.
Most automotive leather comes from cows. Cows are generally killed for meat, not leather. In fact less than 5% of the value is in leather. So in a sense this is sustainable use of a waste byproduct.

I am open to discussion and would be very happy indeed to participate.

You lost all credibility for discussion because you called those with differing views, “haters”. We can’t talk kiddo
Yo Yo nothing wrong with that term. Haters mean people who hate it and if you look at some of the comments, it is pure hatred. Example : Japanese piece of shit. It is just a Toyota. Looks like it's made in China. Etc etc.

I feel sorry for you. This is why you cant have nice things - you are no longer proud
Love to agree with NO LEATHER interior. Can't stand leather seats.
Phil M esp. In summer sweaty back n ass
Fabric seat, agree.
It's not only the heat and sweat, which is why they offer aerated seats (pay pay pay). It is also that a leather cover never gives in and adopts to the body contours the way a fabric can.

Actually, this car is really awesome looking! I would love this! I dont know why i love it so much!
I love for $30,000, I wouldnt pay more. Has absolutely no character, no soul
I don’t know why I love Toyota so much ❤️❤️❤️
