It's true that the Century used to have a rival, namely the Nissan President, but that car has been discontinued by Nissan so only the Century itself is left in that class.
Lexus was just created for Americans because they say "too expensive for a Toyota". They pay more for image and brand than actual product. Same for genesis, infiniti etc.
As Toyota has made clear, this is not an SUV, but a next-generation sedan. The small interior, parts borrowed from other models, the small luggage room mainly for storing golf bags, and the built-in Blu-ray player are all designed to be user-friendly and are in line with Japanese culture, making them ideal for the domestic market. This is not a consumer vehicle. It's basically a Japanese limousine, designed with Japanese tastes in mind. That's why it has never been exported. Never will be.
Both the Century sedan and SUV should have a V12 like the previous former and be sold overseas as well. However, this time, it should be a V12 plug-in-hybrid because that can significantly reduce both emissions and fuel consumption.

Some people are confused about Century, so I'll explain. The Century is just a car made for the Japanese Imperial Family. So they are just selling it for the sake of it, and they are not really trying to beat Rolls-Royce.
I would love to see Toyota import the Century SUV, Land Cruiser 70, and the new RWD Crown Sedan under something like the "Heritage Series Collection". In limited numbers they would instantly sell out. Minus the LC 70, this would make Lexus look bad however so it will never happen. A crying shame.
The gradient grill of Lexus RX makes more sense since it’s more seamlessly connected to the hood panel. This has a properly defined grill but with the gradient which makes zero sense.
Ah, so it will be all "SUV"? Thought it´s just another model in the Century lineup. I can imagine the slower soft closing comes maybe from the Japanese liking.
