- The 2023 Munich Motor Show has been taking place this week, and there have been SO many new cars on show! From petrol-powered Passats to futuristic concepts, Mat’s pulled together all the key announcements you need to know about.
Starting with petrol power, there were a whole load of new cars unveiled. Audi brought its new V8-powered SQ8 SUV, while Porsche offered the first real-world glimpse of the lightest 911 you can buy, the limited-edition 911 S/T. Porsche didn’t stop there, though, also unveiling the most powerful Cayenne you can buy, the new Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid! It wasn’t all about power and performance, though - VW also shared the all-new Passat!
Naturally, there were SO many electric cars on show. Audi unveiled the interior of the upcoming Q6 e-tron, which features the brand’s all-new Digital Stage infotainment system! Two new MINIs were also unveiled, the MINI Cooper and MINI Countryman, and Chinese brands were also present, notably with BYD showing off the Dolphin hatchback and Seal U SUV!
And of course, it wouldn’t be a motor show without a load of concepts to look around! This ranges from the BMW Neue Klasse Concept (a look at how future BMWs may look) through to the Cupra’s shooting brake Dark Rebel and an upcoming all-electric Mercedes G-Class!
The question is, what was your favourite car on show? Let us know in the comments!

There has to be a mercedes or audi employee at bmw who convinces everyone that these designs are fire lol
BMW is so gonna bankrupt with this design
The answer is simple: CHINA. We western markets are far less important today than Asia, and those designs are all targeting the taste of that market.
Its sad, especially as a German, but that is the world we live in.
After watching the BMW,I finally understand your statement 😂
BMW always had simple design for their concept cars before some great production cars.
@@TDCIYB77 Nah China might have slightly weird taste in cars, but it's not this bad. That car looks like it came from the designer's fever dream, nobody will like this design, not even China. The biggest things over there at the moment are luxury MPVs and traditional sedans. Trust me they're really not as weird as you think.
I never thought that I'll be bored to see an auto show review, everything now is or a EV or a SUV.
It hurt so bad
@dancinglight8545 true, in Africa pot holes , bad roads are order of the day. These computer things won't work. That's why we use land cruisers and hiluxes with basic technology
Same EVs are so boring, and I can't stand SUVs. I hate that everyone wants one, since it has ruined the rest of the car market. They've slowly stopped making sedans and coupes..
My classic Skoda Favorit has more clearance than most of those so called SUVs today. It's about how one designs a car, not marketing nomenclature created to sell a bit of more steel for way more money.
@@comfortkabanshi5048in Australia in the outback and general countryside everyone who lives there drive landcruisers, hiluxs, D’Max, Rangers and other 4wd cars.
Ooh, now I'm not an SUV man, but that Century is a candidate for the coolest SUV on the road and I have to admit... I do want one.
Looks like a chinese knockoff of a 90’s Escalade to me. Frumpy design.

Uh no. It’s an awkward FWD-looking brick. The Cullinan has classic RWD proportions and isn’t based on a minivan platform.

The toyota century's design is quite interesting. The exterior looks really oldschool with a few modern bits but the interior looks like proper modern luxury.
And ridiculously expensive, because it is handmade, just like its sedan counterpart.
Yes a true Japanese icon
The Ultimate Royal Saloon tailored for Emperor of Japan's family, you may buy it not because you have the money but Toyota will inspect you whether you deserve this car or not.

VW realized their touch buttons were horrible to use and went back to traditional buttons. Good thing.
Oh yeah. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, VW had some of the best switch gear and interior design. Back when Piech wanted to take VW upmarket (ie Phaeton), they had some of the nicest mass produced car interiors of any car manufacturer, even besting their Audi division’s models. They’re still nice but definitely not nicer than Audi anymore. But glad they’re going to more physical buttons.
@@Simon-oq6dsI don’t remember Vw beating Audi… you sure about that? Or do you only mean the phaeton?
Because already the Passat at the time was damn ugly inside (drove one as a company car… what a nasty car but amazing for long autobahn journeys) while while Audi A4-6 were really nice.
@@Simon-oq6dsat the very least these cars never sounded boring.
I genuinely believe that a lot of auto manufacturers are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they realize that these minimalist interiors are not ideal for the majority of people. Some might get used to it over time, but I for one don't see the reason why they feel the need to change/take things away when the tech worked just as good if not better than they would in an interior with no buttons and switches. Not to mention, the minimalism simply makes the cabin of a car look dead in my opinion.
well said, my thoughts exactly
I absolutely hate how minimalism has ruined car designs (both exterior and interior designs). Everything nowadays feels bland, sterile, soulless and incredibly boring.
Absolutely correct. A balance has to be found in between minimalism and style. Look at the interior of the C7 Audi A6 for example. It is very functional, not confusing but also has style. But concepts are concepts for a reason; they give automakers an idea of what they buyer likes and thus things like this are subject to change.
It's boring as hell.
Throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick. At the same time, repeat propaganda enough times and it becomes reality. Glad at least buyers spoke with their wallets for squared off SUVs with the G-wagon, wrangler, bronco, and now the Toyota Prados
That BMW Neue Klasse Concept is HIDEOUS!
Idk if BMW's designer is smoking or something.
Their cars are Soo ugly
I want some of that shit cause I'm sure it drives them crazy
😂
I love their designs.
I think they have officially lost the design plot.Ever since the Chris Bangle era,its been downhill from there and its seems to get worse every design cycle. But this is just my personal opinion,i'm not a design expert.
Cupra is an example of a major company listening to their consumer base and they’ll still be able to maximize profit due to ticking the right boxes. Dark Rebel (prod versions/diff model crowd sourced) and the Dark Horse are gonna do insanely well simply because they offer to listen and then execute as efficiently as they can.

Would've never thought that there will be a time that i will be unexcited by a an auto-show review.. Hooray Electric cars!!... 🚶🏾♂️
It is super boring this year but not because these cars are electric, but because the manufacturers just make boring stuff now.
Electric cars can be exciting, but not if they are all just giant SUVs. (I remember how excited I was by the Honda e concept)
Imagine BMW building an e30 inspired ev coupe with an actual gearbox, aluminium and carbon fiber chasis and bodypanels, 300+ wide tires in the rear, max 1500kg and around 500hp electric motor rwd.
EVs are not the problem. SUVs and crossovers are.

Its magnificient. And even the SUV has a logical approcach, as the rich prefere range robber shaped type of cars.
For this market, the evolution is logical.
For the poor consumer though, pushing SUV's to the masses will probably lead in the extinction of the brands going for this "all in" strategy.

Excited for the new q8 I have the current q8 but I will definitely trade for the new one !!
I don't understand why car companies continue to reduce buttons and increase the usage of the screen even though everyone hates it.
Maybe because the best selling EVs in the world are the Tesla Model 3 and Y? Just like any enthusiast group, "we're" the minority and the loudest, but the complete opposite of what people actually want (sales numbers)
Because you're wrong and many like it. Like me. Though I prefer some buttons I don't want clutter.
Cause it's cheap to put everything on a screen
The proportions and design of the recent Century SUV fall short of those of the usual Century saloon to me, didn't help for the FWD biased architecture so it's basically a little more than a poshed up Grand Highlander with optional people carrier style doors underneath in contrast to the saloon which used the platform of the Lexus LS600 h.

I’ve a going concern with all these displays and softwares… we all know how softwares continue to demand newer hardware and chips to run properly… like smartphones do… so how are these cars going to fare in the short years to come? My 10-yr old VW’s doesn’t integrate with my iPhone anymore (thus making the phone feature useless), update its navigation system (making that useless as well), etc etc. Whereas traditional buttons never get old and stay bital and relevant.
