I've had a great deal of fun performing this effect for my friends and coworkers! One guy I know reported destroying several bills in his attempts at figuring out how I did this. Not many illusions make it into my spellbooks because I have a demanding standard for my magic when it comes to visual and mental impact, but this one is a must-have for any roaming/closeup worker.

I gotta say this is actually great for almost any close-up situation. Bar magic, street magic, whatever. It's extremely visual, it packs a punch, and it's easy to follow....perfect. (btw, I love going through these old videos again...Apparently I missed alot of stuff that I thought I had watched already)

I love the little flick/snap he does to it right before the reveal. It lends to the mystique, and the notion that he somehow does something sneaky very quickly or uses his psychic powers in that moment to "restore" the bill. Very good showmanship.

how long does it take to do your hair?
Just a little sleight of hand this is doable without leaving any holes on the bill.Fold in half,fold down the flap,fold "the middle" inside on diagonal (inside reverse fold,for origami folders).Ofc,adjust the flap bigger so it covers the middle of the bill,and fold the card accordingly.

The thing I really love about this trick is what it reveals about "logic." Logic says that the pen must have gone through the bill, but if you accept the visual evidence that it didn't then you're off in the weeds trying to figure out where the logic went wrong. If on the other hand you accept the logic -- that it MUST have gone through the bill -- you have a reasonable chance of figuring it out. So the trick succeeds because only a fool would trust his logic over his eyes! ;)
I saw this trick once before but the slit was higher up and it did/does not look nearly as clean. Thanks for the revision.
@djlocman3 no, you need the card. keep in mind the pen doesnt actually go through the middle meaning you wil still see part of the dollar in front of the pen and it'll be clear the pen didnt actually penetrate throug hthe middle.

Awesome trick. We just need tips on how to do it on currency other than American (I'm from Canada).
First time seeing this, but I did barely notice that "trapdoor" on the dollar haha
I like it. How about this natural setup idea? Include the trick bill as part of your tip before you leave, then pull it back suggesting you've put in a dollar too much. When you take the trick bill back, you can conveniently recall a great trick with a std dollar bill! Then it distracts from the suggestion that you've pulled some special bill from your wallet.
Hate to break it to you, but that's what scam school is. Still really cool though (:

pause at 2.47. Pen though dollar bill, My guess for the method is that there's a slit in the bill a bit higher up (not in the middle) the pen goes through. When showing the bill whole he covers that slit.
