      I didn't even know what the trick was yet in the first part when they counted, but immediately I was like that's not actually 40... Why did no one bring that up? 4x10 does = 40... But not when everyone is double counting. I would have immediately asked too many questions or pointed out, no we don't have 40 coins. Because simple math says we don't...
      Then the rest of the time while doing the trick it still just stick out what was going on. I wasn't sure on the exact moves he needed vs what spot they put it in, but obvious what was happening overall

    I tried it on my old friend when I met him after 2 years...he had finished college by then. And apparently he had done his phd in math......and hence this did not work on him.....when I asked him how many coins were there.....he immediately replied 26.....so that pretty much ended the conversation about this trick......😝😝

    Keep in mind, it is nearly two AM as I am typing this.
    I just watched it, and whenever he said you each get your own row, I thought, "But they have the same corners"
    I thought that, but it didn't really click because I didn't know how the scam was going to play out, and I haven't slept in 20 hours. Plus, saying 4 times 10 is 40 is a really great distraction, because it makes everyone think that there's 40 coins.
    Everyone is saying that it's too easy, and maybe. But you also know you're watching scam school. You've come to learn the ways, and to think about this logically. However, the people he does it with knows that it's a scam, but they're there to play the game, to have fun with it. They aren't necessarily figuring it all out from the start, especially since they don't even know how the game is going to work.
    Not saying it will fool everyone, but you'd be surprised at how many people will overlook things if they don't know what's going on.

    the saying '4 x 10 = 40' is unnecessary for the trick, and in fact gives the game away at the get go.

      Because as soon as he said "4x10 = 40" a lot of people will see the error in that statement. After that it is a small step to figure out what is going on. If he hadn't said "4x10=40" I could have been fooled by this, because the addition of the extra coin should have made one of the rows = 11.

    • @TheXeroRez
      @TheXeroRez 8 лет назад

      the point is to get them to say 4 rows of 10... 4 rows.. or times (4 x 10) .. it's brain games. You say it, and your brain accepts it as so.. 4 instances of 10.. one instance on each (row/side) It's simply a mind-game. Then when he "ADDS" the extra coin, your brain thinks.. 4 instances of 10.. he added one so one (row/side) has 11! then it just repeats.

    4 x 10 does indeed equal 40, however the set-up of the coins in a square meant that, though there were 4 rows of 10, the coins placed in the corners were all counted twice, so the equation 4 x 10 did not actually apply.

  • @xLEGOboy13x
    @xLEGOboy13x 9 лет назад +4

    As soon as he started I already knew the trick without knowing I knew the trick xD. When he said 4x10=40 my brain immediately went "But he counted those coins on the corners twice?" so once he started the actual trick and I noticed him grab one of the coins from the corner I naturally subtracted that coin from that row, which I already had categorized in my mind with a variable. (For example A, B, C, D, but I didn't really fill in actual letters at first glance, just the ways the rows looked visually and used that to sort of make a new letter) Then once he grabbed a coin from a corner I categorized each corner (lower case a,b,c,d) and each space in between each corner (w,x,y,z) then decided B-c=x+b, A-b=w+a,C-d=y+c and D-a=z+d where A,B,C and D always = 10. So when the second "extra" coin was placed I knew what he was doing and where he would place the coin from the corner, and which corner he would take from. (Say I add a coin to row B, making B = +1 more than before making B=10 false, So if I want to keep the statements above true, I would have to subtract 1 from c and add 1 to x or subtract 1 from b and add 1 to w.) And I assume that's basically running through the magicians mind at the time when he or she is doing this trick.. only explained through reason and memorization rather than words, to speed up the time a bit.
    So congratulations I guess to any small child who has done this trick, you've just used algebra without even knowing it!

    I caught on at the first time, but it was actually something he said that gave it away to me. "4 rows of ten equals 40," but since the corners are counted twice there aren't actually 40 coins. Since I had that in my mind, easy to figure out what was going on

  • @mitchbankss
    @mitchbankss 9 лет назад +7

    tip number one.
    dont hint at "40 coins" or ten times 4 or "add all the coins up" bc thats where people will pick up on trickery, like much of us did. bc really all that matters is the fact that the number of coins appears to stay the same although you're adding more
    the more "information" you give, the more the audience has to be skeptical towards.

  • @SeeShelby
    @SeeShelby 12 лет назад

    You can start as low as 24, and the highest number coins allowed is 36. So you could do the trick actually 12 times in a row. You might want to watch the trick again but you should be able to place a coin every time until the coin exceed the number of 36. It doesn't matter where the coin is placed but how you manipulate the rows.

  • @pausebeforeviewtube

    Actually, the number can be as low as 28. If the participants insist upon adding coins only to the two diagonal corners that start off at a value of 4, then the total coins cannot exceed 28 for it to work. However, with a "random" distribution, the trick should quite often allow for the absolute maximum of 36 total coins. Thus, the most coins one may add before the trick will no longer work ranges from 2 to 10 depending upon participant coin placement.

    Its really easy to figure out, because youre all watching to learn it. to figure it out. if you do it to someone who is off guard and you do it to a group who isn't really trying to figure you out then it will work better. If you can use your theatrics and misdirection with how you explain the rules then it works better than saying

  • @Nicknero

    Pretty simple to figure out honestly. Once you caught the error with 4x10=40 (Which is just a mind trick that belongs to the scam because each person counts the same corners thus those coins are counted twice.) it's easy to figure out what you do. All moves are basically nonsense except of the single coin moving from one of either corners of the row they added a coin to somewhere in the other row connected to the same coin.

    this trick is cool, but impressively easy .. if u understand binomical rules in math ... u see that trick right when u know the target of this: everybody count your rows.
    ... obviously coins at a knot count for both rows, while coins outer knots count for just 1 row .. so:
    add a coin to row x, and then put 1 coin off of 1 of those 2 knots of row x to the neigbourline .. and your fine! ;)

    I figured it out the third time because the first two times you were moving too fast, but later i could see what you were doing which was what i was imagining

    I didn't get this because I didn't know what the illusion was. I knew there weren't 40 coins from the beginning, but didn't think that made a difference.

    The corners are counted by the two rows attached to itso you could add 4 coins and you would have 40 in the end

    I'm sick of people bitching about the new comment system. Granted, I do hate it my self. So heres my idea, why not bring back the parts of the old system that made the top comments ones that recieved the most up votes, and keep the parts of the new one where your replies to comments stay like they are now. Sound good to you guys??

    All I could think of watching this is: "Okay, but there's no way they'll be dumb enough to not call him out on it." And yet - nobody did! Nobody called him out on his bullshit "40 total".
    I guess I'm just not as dumb/gullible?

    he didn't even start and I figured it out... it just didn't make sens to count the corner twice... i think asking him to say how much is 4x10 ruined it. because it is here I realized that this doesn't work like that...
