The plot really thickened after the cut scenes from the missions they released last summer man what a story they were telling. Shame it's gonna be on hold for a while
As you saw Sombra is part of Talon but she is just using them to her own benefit. She helped Doomfist in numerous mission after he escaped out of prison. Now some more info about zarya that do not have a dedicated animation or origin story sadly Her full name is Aleksandra Zaryanova she is from Russia and she is 30 years old. She was born in a small town near the frontline of the omnic war, she grew up in the middle of the war and lost her father to it when she was still a child. those event made her want to be strong enough to protect what she hold dear. She became Became an accomplished weightlifter and bodybuilder and was spotted by the national Olympic program as a potential star. they expected her to crush record in the next world championship. but as the day for the world championship came the old deactivated omnic factory woke up and lauched an attack on russia and her hometown was once again on the frontline. She gave up the competition to enlist in the local defense forces. She then became both a sergeant of the Russian Defense Forces and a symbol of the people. Katya Volskaya (the woman in this animation) entrusts her with an experimental weapon, a particle cannon deemed too heavy for ordinary soldiers. after the event of this animation Katya gave her the mission to hunt Sombra and bring her to justice. She searched the whole world for her and was forced to ally herself with an omniac, Lynx Seventeen. This unlikely duo located Sombra , but sheran away after revealing Katya secrets since she broke the deal. With the burden of this information, offset by a new positive perspective on the omniacs from Lynx, Zarya returned to Russia where she met a man who helped her and offered her to join his Organization she was not the only one this man offer this to the other are : Baptiste and phara. but who is this man? the answer will be revealed later ;)
Overwatch 1 launched in May 2016 with 21 heroes, then Ana was added in July. For the months leading up to BlizzCon 2016 (November), there was an ARG campaign set, with in-game clues that a hacker hero was coming next. The community was quick to pick up on the hero being Sombra, as there were clues on certain maps or from certain voice lines/interactions, and seeing "quien es Sombra?" everywhere. The community had it all pretty much figured out by the end of July, but had to wait until November for the announcement (including this trailer). Blizzard later admitted they were surprised at how quickly the community solved the ARG, that they'd consider other methods to tease future heroes from that point. This trailer was originally presented in the midst of the opening ceremony, where they started with an Overwatch Launch "Behind the Scenes" video that starts to get corrupted a few seconds in, which led into Sombra appearing to finish her hack as that cinematic starts.
Yep I remember the hype surrounding her! All the RUclipsrs were posting vids about her and then during blizzcon live stream when she “hacked” the launch video into this cinematic was just perfect! I still love her so much, even got her Jade Skin weapon with m comp credits 😂 the voice actress is also very active with the community, often appearing on Fitzy’s streams (he mains Sombra)
If you pause your video at 5:21, you can see two photos on the desk. The first photo is the one Sombs hands to Katya. The second one is of Katya and her daughter where Katya is booping her daughter's nose. This might be why Sombra booped her at the end.
If you guys like reading, I'd suggest reading the comics New Blood (1 to 5) and the short stories Ramattra : Reflection, As You Are, Project Echo, Lindholm Workshop and Shockwaves on Overwatch's official website before watching the PVE cinematic! The comics especially!
Sombra is basically what you would call a "free agent". She pretended to join Talon, but only for her own gains, in this case to get in reach of Katya Volskaya, one of the most powerful women in all of Russia (Talon is the organization which Doomfist, Widowmaker and Reaper belong to, a terrorist organization) There's a 1v1 duel map in the game which you can find if you create a custom game, which has Sombra's room in it which has a looot of information Sombra's release was kind of a shit show in OW1, they had this months long ARG with hints and hidden messages in videos and trailers and the game. It took so long for the ARG to be over that people were getting kinda sick of it haha She was very weak on release, especially compared to Ana (who was very strong on release as nanoboost gave you not only 50% damage increase and 50% damage reduction, but also 50% speedboost, which made nanoing Reaper during his ultimate one of the strongest ultimate combos, which effectively was called the Beyblade meta) She however had this mechanic where if you hacked a healthpack and another teammate made use of it, you got ultimate charge from it. So very quickly people started playing Sombra like an extra healer, and they were basically able to farm her ultimate in 20-30 seconds each time. She's been reworked a bunch of times. At release in Overwatch 1 if you hacked an enemy, they would not be able to use their abilities for 6 seconds for instance. She could only be invisible for 6 seconds as well though. Her translocator however was forever, so you could just throw it down somewhere safe and basically teleport to it whenever you needed to.
