If you are looking for another Overwatch cinematic to react to then I definitely recommend Zero Hour or Hero. They are two very good ones that I know I enjoyed a lot and I think you will too. Have a great day!!
The cool thing with this cinematic is that it's such an intensely condensed but fully realised story. It's basically a movie in a super short time frame, complete with a three act structure of conflict, failure, redemption. It's quite remarkable how much emotion it manages to elicit despite its brief run time.
True but imo they tried to put too much into a cinematic that is only around 10 mins. These animated shorts work best when they capture a moment instead of trying to capture a whole story.
@@toitd5258 there was a lot, but i don't think its too much at all. It doesn't feel rushed and each scene had their time. They even got 2 different time periods in it, which is really well done.
@@TobiNano Everything happened way too abruptly without much detailed development. Each scene had their time but there weren't enough scenes to make the flow convincing.

I don't see any rushed pacing on it, except maaaaybe the part where they left the bar and instantly jump to them running towards the comics, and that's really pushing it. Their sound design really helped with the transitions and the storyboarding is must have helped a lot.
@@toitd5258 The only issues I noticed were that the movement in the scenes didn’t align with how the map actually is. Several times the characters teleport or clear enemies in the same area twice. As an actual player it’s a little jarring but it’s not hugely important.
Love the fully intended symbolism during Balderich's last stand. Reinhardt gives him his hammer, his only means of attack, to honor Balderich's final request to be the team's shield. Balderich accepts, knowing that defense is pointless since he is already going to die and his shield got destroyed. Balderich tells Reinhardt to "Live with honor", giving him his blessing going forward in life. Reinhardt replies to "Die with glory", knowing he will never see Balderich again. In the end, I am pretty sure that is the reason why Reinhardt joined Overwatch, to fill the responsibility that Balderich once held due to him being the reason Balderich died. Where Balderich said "It is a great honor" when referring to Overwatch, Reinhardt said, "I must answer, always".
At the beginning balderich says about Overwatch "I have been called I must answer" Reinhardt is repeating his words to show that he's become a more responsible and honorable warrior
Before "Live with Honor, Die with Glory" was just a fun thing to say for Reinhart, because he was young and reckless. He never saw the full meaning of this words, but at the moment of the last stand he saw what it really means....
Let's also remember that the fist time they said their catchphrase , it's meant to symbolize what each of them values in their life as crusaders , Balderich wants to live life as honorably as he can while Reinhardt wishes to have a glorious battle , one fitting for him to die in with pride. But before the last stand the catchphrases became a request from one to the other just like you said.
@@alybadry203 Yep, just like in the beginning Reinhardt is bragging about they are Crusaders who will live in song and glory forever; but at the end, even though he as been "retired" and forgotten, a call for help was made, and he knows it is his duty to answer that call.
Here's some lore about this: People are instructed to leave Crusaders where they died, still in their armor, as their final resting grave to tell their story. Colonel Balderich (the guy that died) his armor is literally still there in the game when you play on that map; when you push the payload to the final objective it ends at his throne with his armor sitting there, and the Overwatch coin that rein places on the throne in this cinematic as well

7:03 One of Reinhardt's voice lines in the game is "Don't worry my friends. I am your shield!" So when the cinematic came out and we saw Balderich tell him to be their shield... let's just say I teared up a bit.
Yeah the voiceline is 'don't worry my friend. I am your shield' Which is important because there are two references to that line in other characters. Orisas maker EFI is a fan of reinhardt and so is orisa and because of that she has the two voicelines 'this will be your shield' when placing a stationary barrier and 'I am also a shield' when using her fortify defence mode. Rise & Shine as the first cinematic after recall, only because May has to travel quite far on foot before she can join the action in Zero Hero. Similarly, different cinematics' order are based off their geographical location. Alive > Dragons has to happen around here: Tracer needs to have joined Overwatch and there need to have passed enough time for Tracer to recover for Zero Hour + Winston fixing Tracer' chronal accelerator. Additionally, it needs to happen after Recall, as a motivating factor for Genji and for his line about choosing a side to make sense. The order of Rise & Shine -> Honor & Glory can be changed, depending on time it takes for the different characters to reach Winston. The trailer is last, because Overwatch is active - but could've happened anywhere after Recall - but notable time has passed between Zero Hour and the trailer imo.
@@larrystanuwu4744 Winston issues the Recall This ties into McCree going to Route 66 to find Echo, yes, but it also ties into Reinhardt "answering the call." It also is what causes Genji visiting Hanzo to tell him that "it's time to pick a side." Winston and Tracer only got together after the Recall, meaning that the fight at the museum is after that. Mei, of course, watches the Recall happen after coming out of cryostasis, and leaves to go join them as well Every single one of these leads directly into Zero Hour. That only leaves Alive, Last Bastion, Shooting Star, and Infiltration as not being a part of any direct tie ins so far. If you're going to be pedantic about watching "all" of the others, fine, but at least admit that Zero Hour has buildup from most of the other cinematics. Which is my original point. You miss out on a LOT of context without the other cinematics. Overwatch being shut down, Mei being there in the first place, why all these characters are coming together, really almost anything about the omnics... Really the only main outliers are who Null Sector are (which is not addressed in any of the cinematics, unless he watches the archives cutscenes, which, whatever if he doesn't, and Mercy dropping in to heal Mei. Edit: Hero also, tbh I always forget about that one.
The most heartbreaking part of this whole story is that Balderich's armor is still sitting exactly where he died in Eichenwald... including in-game. It's beyond just the areas where the cinematics happen being the maps in-game, the maps are the areas after the cinematics. This is especially noticeable with the Route 66 map and "The Reunion" cinematic (the starting area for the team on offense is in the diner where McCree is sitting, and you step out into the train wreck). As far as Eichenwald is concerned, the Overwatch Emblem is even on the right arm of the chair, where Reinhardt's leaves it at the end of this cinematic. The area has basically become a shrine to Balderich's last stand. It is an absolutely heartbreaking story, and the game doesn't let you forget.
9:15 we played on this map for several years already when this cinematic came out and no one knew why the crusader armor was sitting there. gets me everytime
Yeah it was even more mind blowing to the players who have played on that map many times without knowing the reason that armor was there. It was so surprising how many players went from tea bagging and spray paint it, to /kneel /salute for few weeks.
Does anyone know where the fuck rein went when he left the castle there literally is no other exit outside of the main door and the side doors that he was walking away from
Blazing_Storm777 Dragneel not dead but I remember when it took 5 seconds to find a match to the point where I couldn’t press Find Match and open a single Lootbox
I love the symbolism in this cinematic short, the hammer's that the crusaders use represents glory and their shield represents honour. You can see Reinhart only using his hammer throughout the first half as he is only seeking glory, once he willingly relinquishes his weapon to Balderich he is also relinquishing seeking glory and embracing honour by using both his equipment and his body as a shield to protect others.
You haven't watched "Recall" "Hero" "The last Bastion" "Rise and Shine" and "Shooting Star" "Zero Hour" is the last one so far Also there are a bunch of origin story's but they are shorter and made in a different style but also great.
The neat thing about these cinematics, is that all of the details you see form in them, like the damage to the Temple from Dragons and the damage done to the landscape in this video (including the destroyed hand rails and the big suit of armor in the chair) are actually present on each map in the game. It's a neat thing to see.
This guy is great because yes he is technically doing a reaction video, but hes actually adding a lot of content and not just giving overdramaticized gasps of surprise. I love your stuff man, keep up the good work :)
@@di3yus459 yes im very disappointed, I hope next time they react the exact way that you want and how you want because obviously you are the most important person on earth
@@di3yus459 thats how you know he loves what he does as a filmmaker. When people get genuinely happy they can get cringey at times and imo its pretty heartwarming to see
Reinhardt was always my favorite and this short only made me like him more. His backstory is quite sad, even after Balderich's death. In the game, Eichenwalde (the town this short takes place in) is a gameplay map, so everything in the environment: the tanks, the broken castle, the bridge, the massive doors, even dead BALDERICH himself on the throne is on the map. It's really great to watch these shorts and be able to recognize so many gameplay features.
I think the coolest thing is that when this short was originally released, the map got an update in-game to add the Overwatch medallion onto the arm of the throne, which wasn't there previously. There've been a few maps that got similar treatment, from the coffee mugs in Ecopoint Antarctica to the destroyed airport in Numbani, and I haven't seen any other title where story events that take place outside of the game have a direct effect inside it in real time. It's excellent attention to detail that really makes the whole franchise feel more cohesive.
People recommending Zero Hour should understand that he should watch it as the last cinematic, Zero Hour is way better when you have actually seen the cinematics of each character before watching it.
This guy is one of the EXTREMELY few reaction channels who actually make effort and don't just watch the video and end it. Keep up the great work my guy!
Rise and shine is special in that there are no battle or fighting scenes. The Last Bastion is special in that there are no words spoken. Despite these weird quirks, these are some of my favorite cinematics. Highly recommend
If you liked that one Chris you should watch "The Last Bastion" next, not to trump anyone's recommendations thus far but it kinda goes along with "Honor and Glory."
From an in-game interaction: Mercy: Reinhardt, don't you think it's time you hung it up? You're not getting any younger. Reinhardt: Never! I will fight to my last breath. Reinhardt could never just retire in a time of peace. Balderich fought to his last breath, and he must honor that.
* About to go to bed in Australia * "Chris Connor Overwatch Reaction" (Or anything else Blizzard related - best in the business). Didn't need sleep anyway - thanks Chris :P
You should watch “zero hour” at the end of all of these short animations, it’s the final one before overwatch 2 Right now watch "Recall" "Hero" "The last Bastion" "infiltration" "Shooting Star" "Rise and Shine" And Then "Zero Hour" it’s the final one before overwatch 2
17:00 This also makes you feel like beeing in the scene since you'd also hear a person speeking first and then turn your head or point your eyes in the direction of the sound.
i will recommend to see the cinematics: Recall (and are you with me, those belong together), the last bastion, infiltration, hero and zero hour. those are very cool and if you watch them in this order, maybe you will understand the full story of overwatch.
I love how the managed to capture the sheer distress you feel as a teammate when Reinhardt goes charging off into the enemy backlines without backup lol. Like, I lost count of the number of times my heart sank as the Rein I just healed back up to full health goes yeeting himself off into Narnia. These shorts give so much heart and soul to the genuine sentiment from the community about the characters they’re about, and they’re all fantastically put together. I love them all.
One touch I like is that sheen of perspiration that you see on Col. Balderich and Reinhardt when they withdraw to the castle. You can tell from that that they are going into shock from their respective wounds, and isn't something you usually see in an animated cinematic.
IMPORTANT: Watch Zero Hour last, or at least after Rise and Shine + Recall. It will make a lot less sense if you haven't watched those. (Recall before Rise). I'd say the best order for you to watch them in would be The Last Bastion (as you have hinted towards it already and it has no connections to other cinematics), Recall, Rise and Shine, then Shooting Star, Infiltration and Hero in any order then Zero Hour.
What I love about this cinematic is the two moments of "Live with Honor, Die with Glory".. the first being a many-times-spoken-motto between the two moment, where the second one is a one-time-life-advice-while-realizing-those-would-be-the-last-words-between-the-two moment.
"How sick would it be to have a character drop" ... STAND BY FOR TITANFALL The single player trailer, the single player cinematic trailer and the "Become One" launch trailer are all treats for the eye, I highly recommend them.
"Of all the things I've seen in the battlefields of the Frontier, the Pilot is the true dominant force." I'll always remember what an incredible introduction to Titanfall 2 that trailer was. You weren't 'master sergeant major colonel badass' because the story said you were, it made clear what made the pilot 'the true dominant force'.
This cinematic is my favourite of all. this quote "Be their shield" make me chills, i love this my god. And man, your explications of how they manage to make this cinematics is awesome, i enjoy so much your videos!
By the way, this armor on the throne can be seen in the arena itself, in their "overgrown" version. Also that attack of the mentor with a jump and acceleration of the hammer is one of the variants of the Rinehart's POTG
God damn i ALWAYS go back to your reactions to game cinematics. You make it feel so epic and emotional! Decided to go over the ow cinematics since ow2 came out. So many feels.

after watching u now several times. I learned so much about cutting scenes or just how to makes scenes more fluently. Funny thing is. I've seen this short so many times, but last time I watched it. I just started to see a thing by myself cuz of u. Like switching the battlefield or the lightning. I really enjoy this content. The next I would recommend is "The Last Bastion." The graphics are similar to like pixar or disney films, but the storytelling is interesting and awesome without any conversation. really want to know your opinion on it- Sorry for my bad English I tried ^^'
I really loved how genuine the reaction was when it cut back to the present time at the end. Like you could feel that he was feeling the impact of that whole situation. Just him taking on all the omnic robots by himself alone was badass, it only got better when he went on the throne, and even more so that he remained there till present day. Truly a fucking legend.
I dont Get exited when i watch the overwatch animations but my emotions are very easy to chance so if i see someone Who is exited i become exited so thank you for making me exited... i love being exited

The Overwatch cinematics are really awesome! Maybe when you are finished with them you can watch the charakter videos and cinematics of Team Fortress 2. I know they are veeeery old but I still like to watch them and would like to hear what a professional thinks about them. Personally I see the way 3D animation went and how the techniques improved over the years.
The oldest one would be Meet the Heavy. It is very short so I would recomment to watch two of the meet the - videos. So Meet the Heavy and then Soldier.
I just want to mention that a lot of voice lines and interactions are based on these shorts like when orisa mentions Reinhardt liking his shield and he says it's important to him or his line "I am your shield" They're interesting because of the context these shorts give. You didn't mention this so I thought I would Love your vids keep up the good work
Don't do "Zero Hour" before you do "Rise and Shine" and "Recall". Each character need their character story before the ensemble happens in "Zero Hour". "Hero", "Infiltration", "Shooting Star" can stand alone because the characters involved are not part of the ensemble
I love overwatch, and it was these animations that pulled me into buying the game and the story has turned it into one of my favorite games. The series on this game is what got me watching him aswell. I love how you genuinely enjoy these cinematics just as I did. Hope you keep it up!
Good luck doing all of the recomendations, there are probably 50+. Here are some more: The intro of overwatch and the last hour or what it is called, the newest one.
Sick vid as usual ! Love your insight on these pieces of wonder we all know and love ! For the next ones, Zero Hour is more of an epic heroic stand, but Last Bastion is probably my favorite. Its athmosphere, I dunno man. Just so poetic. You're gonna love Last Bastion for sure.
Chris you should totally react to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild “memories” cutscenes! They all have SUPER good animations and great lines and stuff. You should definitely check them out!
19:00 I know i'm quite late to this reaction but those trails might be tracer ammunition rounds used in real warfare to view the projectile path in real time to the naked eye. In warfare there might be one tracer round in every 5 bullets or something like that (i don't really know) used for correcting the trajectory while firing. It's not used in every bullet but in some, so including it in animations or realistic films might not be a bad idea, as long as it makes sense in the portrayed world. The machines in this short might not need the tracer bullet but it surely adds to the visual impact for the viewers. Your videos are great man, great reactions and very informative, keep up the good work!
I'm an artist and all these rules you're talking about used in illustration too so your channel is reeeally helpful for me. I already know about some details using, light, color, angles etc. but I was amazed how you spot shockwaves! It does add so much in specific action scenes. Thank you!
I feel like that should be the last so it will make more sense to him. It would also feel more special as he would know the characters and why they're there.

The trailer is last, because Overwatch is active - but could've happened anywhere after Recall - but notable time has passed between Zero Hour and the trailer imo.
@@larrystanuwu4744 Winston issues the Recall
This ties into McCree going to Route 66 to find Echo, yes, but it also ties into Reinhardt "answering the call."
It also is what causes Genji visiting Hanzo to tell him that "it's time to pick a side."
Winston and Tracer only got together after the Recall, meaning that the fight at the museum is after that.
Mei, of course, watches the Recall happen after coming out of cryostasis, and leaves to go join them as well
Every single one of these leads directly into Zero Hour.
Very true!!
Then OW2 is made and they remove halv of the important story telling maps,Like Hanamura and Numbani.
@@palmtv3538 OW2 is an abomination that shits all over the Legacy that Jeff Kaplan built.
Every time my cats call me to feed I quote this animation: "I've been called..I must answer"

Mum: “AHHH!”
9:15 we played on this map for several years already when this cinematic came out and no one knew why the crusader armor was sitting there. gets me everytime
And they added the overwatch medal thing to the map when the cinematic released
Yeah it was even more mind blowing to the players who have played on that map
many times without knowing the reason that armor was there. It was so surprising how many players went from tea bagging and spray paint it, to /kneel /salute for few weeks.
Does anyone know where the fuck rein went when he left the castle there literally is no other exit outside of the main door and the side doors that he was walking away from
"several years" overwatch launched 8 months before the cinematic was launched
DarkWing494 yo I used to spray paint the OW logo in front of him just because, now it’s in the game so I don’t need to anymore
I've seen this so many times and still cry every time :(
I feel like the story gets sadder every time
Its just like gary come home

I love the symbolism in this cinematic short, the hammer's that the crusaders use represents glory and their shield represents honour. You can see Reinhart only using his hammer throughout the first half as he is only seeking glory, once he willingly relinquishes his weapon to Balderich he is also relinquishing seeking glory and embracing honour by using both his equipment and his body as a shield to protect others.
I have never thought of it like that
None of is have we all just though it looked nice
No matter how many times I watch the Honor and Glory cinematic I always get chills when Reinhard says "I have been called, I must answer... always"
There's a voice line that references this:
"My mentor Balderich was born here! And . . . he died here."
You haven't watched "Recall" "Hero" "The last Bastion" "Rise and Shine" and "Shooting Star"
"Zero Hour" is the last one so far
Also there are a bunch of origin story's but they are shorter and made in a different style but also great.
He didn't "miss" them, he watches whatever he wants dude
Robin de Vrij he said in a comment last week that the last bastion video is already being edited
Robin de Vrij he also hasn’t watched infiltration
Also "Infiltration", the Sombra one
@@ss-nu3qf Sure he does what he wants. But without "Recall" he dont realy get, why Genji, Reinhard, and others are coming back.
The neat thing about these cinematics, is that all of the details you see form in them, like the damage to the Temple from Dragons and the damage done to the landscape in this video (including the destroyed hand rails and the big suit of armor in the chair) are actually present on each map in the game. It's a neat thing to see.
Plus that these details are often only added in once the cinematic has been uploaded.
And I really like that Balderich’s line “Be their shield!” is a reference to Reinhardt’s in-game line:
“Get behind me- *I* will be your shield!”
Jeff B it’s probably where he got it from
This guy is great because yes he is technically doing a reaction video, but hes actually adding a lot of content and not just giving overdramaticized gasps of surprise.
I love your stuff man, keep up the good work :)

Reinhardt in-game saying "I'll be your shield!" Has much more meaning now damn.
yes
People recommending Zero Hour should understand that he should watch it as the last cinematic, Zero Hour is way better when you have actually seen the cinematics of each character before watching it.
Exactly!! Thank you!
true
Bump
There is no conversations or worfs spoken in "The Last Bastion" but it's my favorite Overwatch animation you should definitely go review it
As a precursor to this cinematic I would advise you watch “The Last Bastion” gives some insight into what those robots are
Fun fact: When you pick Reinhardt on attack in Eichenwalde, he actually has a voice line: “I will reclaim my master’s armor!”
This guy is one of the EXTREMELY few reaction channels who actually make effort and don't just watch the video and end it. Keep up the great work my guy!
Yaaaas!!! Now do “the last bastion” or “shooting star”🤩🤩🤩
Or rise and shine
OMG YES THE LAST BASTION 😭😭😭😭
i’m addicted to watching this guy react to my favorite cinematics
Rise and shine is special in that there are no battle or fighting scenes.
The Last Bastion is special in that there are no words spoken.
Despite these weird quirks, these are some of my favorite cinematics. Highly recommend
If I'm remembering right rise and shine is the dva one and she fights a small group of omnics, I might be wrong though
@@therealbestgage rise and shine is mei, shooting star is d.va
If you liked that one Chris you should watch "The Last Bastion" next, not to trump anyone's recommendations thus far but it kinda goes along with "Honor and Glory."
Smart move
Nah... The dragons, Honor and Glory and shooting star is much better than last bastion... Last bastion is overrated and that's a fact...
@@JakO_Ob Im just talking about being on track with "honor and glory..." Im not comparing anything.
@@JakO_Ob How is generic, cliche'd, predictable Honor and Glory better than The Last Bastion?
@@lancewilson7197 lol you call honor and glory generic cliche... What is last bastion if not the most generic disney-like cliche there is ?
From an in-game interaction:
Mercy: Reinhardt, don't you think it's time you hung it up? You're not getting any younger.
Reinhardt: Never! I will fight to my last breath.
Reinhardt could never just retire in a time of peace. Balderich fought to his last breath, and he must honor that.

Oh god, come on, I haven't even had my coffee yet. I'm not emotionally fortified enough this early for this cinematic. 😢😭
You should watch “zero hour” at the end of all of these short animations, it’s the final one before overwatch 2
You should watch “zero hour” at the end of all of these short animations, it’s the final one before overwatch 2
Right now watch
"Recall"
"Hero"
"The last Bastion"
"infiltration"
"Shooting Star"
"Rise and Shine"
And Then "Zero Hour" it’s the final one before overwatch 2
17:00 This also makes you feel like beeing in the scene since you'd also hear a person speeking first and then turn your head or point your eyes in the direction of the sound.
i will recommend to see the cinematics: Recall (and are you with me, those belong together), the last bastion, infiltration, hero and zero hour. those are very cool and if you watch them in this order, maybe you will understand the full story of overwatch.
besides watch 'zero hour' as last, that is the newest cinematic and it kind of ends the whole story of the game
definitely need to watch "the last bastion" tbh
Cryptic Elements already in editing he said
I love the momentum they give to Reinhardt as he charges/swings his hammer, really helps to convey the weight behind the action.
You can tell from that that they are going into shock from their respective wounds, and isn't something you usually see in an animated cinematic.
idk if hes watched it but Overwatch Zero Hour is one of my favourites and he should 100% watch it
Calm down, Zero Hour is great, but is one that is best to watch after the other ones to get the most out of it
Overwatch Zero is best only after he covers Rise & Shine and Reunion. If not it will be just another random video
Absolutely!
Also he needs to watch recall before Zero hour
@@cymjeff92 he has already watched reunion, only rise&shine remains for a full understanding of the story
“Zero Hour” is the very last cinematic. So make sure to watch all the others first.
Am new to this community and i love how you debunk and explain these cinematics
I sub
What I love about this cinematic is the two moments of "Live with Honor, Die with Glory".. the first being a many-times-spoken-motto between the two moment, where the second one is a one-time-life-advice-while-realizing-those-would-be-the-last-words-between-the-two moment.
"How sick would it be to have a character drop" ... STAND BY FOR TITANFALL
The single player trailer, the single player cinematic trailer and the "Become One" launch trailer are all treats for the eye, I highly recommend them.
"Of all the things I've seen in the battlefields of the Frontier, the Pilot is the true dominant force."
I'll always remember what an incredible introduction to Titanfall 2 that trailer was. You weren't 'master sergeant major colonel badass' because the story said you were, it made clear what made the pilot 'the true dominant force'.
Péter Szabadkay true, that trailer/intro is truly amazing
This cinematic is my favourite of all.
this quote "Be their shield" make me chills, i love this my god.
And man, your explications of how they manage to make this cinematics is awesome, i enjoy so much your videos!
By the way, this armor on the throne can be seen in the arena itself, in their "overgrown" version.
Also that attack of the mentor with a jump and acceleration of the hammer is one of the variants of the Rinehart's POTG

Funny thing is. I've seen this short so many times, but last time I watched it. I just started to see a thing by myself cuz of u. Like switching the battlefield or the lightning.
I really enjoy this content.
The next I would recommend is "The Last Bastion."
The graphics are similar to like pixar or disney films, but the storytelling is interesting and awesome without any conversation.

I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING!
Don't do "Zero Hour" before you do "Rise and Shine" and "Recall". Each character need their character story before the ensemble happens in "Zero Hour".
"Hero", "Infiltration", "Shooting Star" can stand alone because the characters involved are not part of the ensemble
And reunion for echo

zero hour and yeah i love that one
Zero hour is for ow2, so he should watch it last

For the next ones, Zero Hour is more of an epic heroic stand, but Last Bastion is probably my favorite. Its athmosphere, I dunno man. Just so poetic. You're gonna love Last Bastion for sure.
Chris you should totally react to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild “memories” cutscenes! They all have SUPER good animations and great lines and stuff. You should definitely check them out!
I recommend another Overwatch short called “Infiltration”
The "Nice!" "Sick!" "Yes!" are so satisfying
Thank you!
