December, 1969...what a great time to be an 11 yr old football crazy kid in America. I'd watch the NFL Game Of The Week every Friday night at 8PM on Channel 39 in Houston,Tx. Loved those old Philly helmets with the pronounced green wings. I was an Oiler/Raider/Cowboy fan, but there was always something about those cold gray East coast December skies that made the game more dramatic. And the music..oh, man..all jazzy and cool...loved it. I had a great childhood.
Lombardi would die in 9 months from stomach cancer. Inoperable because he denied symptoms for years, didn't go to the doctor until it was too late.He was only 57 yrs old. RIP, Coach.

I am more impressed with Sonny Jurgensen with each of these vintage videos I watch. Slinging passes out to Charley Taylor, #42, and Jerry Smith, #87, who was always making clutch catches to keep drives alive. Great to see Dr. Frank Ryan, # 13, in there playing for Lombardi to finish out his great career.

Got to see the Lombardi-coached Skins beat the St. Louis Cardinals a couple of months before this game - at the newly re-named 'RFK Stadium' - and a few months before that saw Ted Williams as manager of the Washington Senators against his old team - the Boston Red Sox - a bit of related trivia - way back in the mid 1930's - just a year or 2 before they moved to D.C. in 1937 - the "Boston Redskins" played their home games at Fenway park !

There's a scene at the end of the NFL Films 1980 NFC championship game vs Dallas, where, after the Philly win, Tose is waiting in the locker room for the celebration and Dick Vermeil cries while he and Leonard Tose embrace..Tose clutching that ever present cigarette, smiling. It's a touching moment in an otherwise messed up owner's life.
That Redskins uniform and colors (more so the home version) were my favorite; especially the helmet spear, classic! The Eagles white helmet with green wings, not so much. L.A. Rams diehard fan here, 1957 to present. Favorite all-time Rams uniform: '64-72. Thanks for this GOTW retro video.
I attended this game for my 80th birthday 🎂🎉. These were two very good football teams. Except for Norm Sneed. You could always count on Sneed to come up thmall. Brady wouldn't last a season in this league. Totally different game back then. They played it for the love of the game, maybe some glory, for there was no money in it at least by today's standards. Many players had full time job. Harold Charmicle used to deliver papers to our house and Sneed was often seen pedaling life insurance in the off season. Chick Bednarik worked in a lime and concrete quarry in nearbye Lafeyyette Hill, thus the name Concrete Charley. Boy times have changed. Keep on rocking people. The best is yet to come. No matter what happens, NEVER SKIP leg day. Thanks 👍
