Look at these two gorgeous men. Each with their own wonderful, unique styles, and you don't know where to look. Gregory Hines left this world too early. And Misha...a wonder. Years ago, I was having dinner with a friend in an outside cafe in Manhattan, and he walked by. I literally dropped my fork and let out a yelp. And New Yorkers are supposed to be cool about this stuff. He was, and is beautiful.
I love Gregory Hines - I mean, it's not easy to hold one's own when dancing next to Baryshnikov! But he does. And Baryshnikov himself is fantastic as ever. He makes it look so easy, yet his grace and the absolute control he has over any tiniest movement of his body is astounding, to say the least. Love those two dancing together - thanks for posting!
I always thought the pairing of these two was genius........two totally different styles side by side doing the same steps. One hangin' loose and lanky tapping and swinging around, and one gracefully turning and going up on his toes.
I love how both of these dancers bring something completely different to the exact same dance. Mikhail does jumps and leaps so easily, and Gregory sort of pounces like a cat. I think both are entertaining to watch. I adore both of them, and I'm sure I"ll never get tired of this movie! Please keep this on.
Rest in peace Gregory...you were an excellent dancer! Baryshnikov...you were absolutely stunning in movement and attractiveness!!! What talent you have! Thank you for coming to America!
OMG What amazing talent both men have! I can't get over watching them effortlessly moving! I love Misha in every movie that I have seen him in. I just wish that he would make another movie. Like something where he is directing a company and see once again why he is the greatest ballet dancer in the world!!!!
Two Masters of their craft combining different types of dance and elevating the performance of both. Probably my favorite “dance” in just about any movie. I rewatch the movie especially for this scene.
They mimic each other so well, you would think they have been dancing together for years. The best dance scene I have ever seen, and its with two guys, that's just madness!
I absolutely adore this part of the movie. I have it on dvd, and when ever I play it I instantly watch this part first and then watch the whole movie. I just kinda zone out while I watch the two of them dancing. My husband has to touch me when he needs to tell me something because he says I don't even hear him talking to me when this part comes on.
I loved this movie when it came out. I wish I could have seen Baryshnikov dance live. It's unfortunate for Gregory Hines though, as every time I watch this scene I try to watch him and his style but I can NOT take my eyes off of Mikhail. What grace and technique. Love it!
To of the best dancers in the world. So entirely different, that what makes this one of the best dance scenes produced. I have watched it over 100 times and still love it. Hines at his best when not tap dancing, and Mikhail who can do modern dance like no one else. Better then Fred Astaire. GREAT!!!
Amazing duet. - I love that dancers of this quality from different styles can perform together so beautifully. I miss Gregory Hines (RIP), and I wish Misha was still dancing publicly.
Wow. Havent seen this in CENTURIES! LOL! Seeing two MASTERS of their dance art form moving together in harmony, it doesnt get any better. This clip still packs the visual impact it did back in the 80's.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this video. It is the most amazing dance sequence and the most remembered one of my lifetime. May Gregory rest in peace. We miss him very much. Mikhail God bless you!
Just goes to show that when something is of such a high quality or caliber, it holds up over the years. Love watching both of them -- you can easily see how MB has the classical ballet training by his posture, and the relaxed easygoing style of GH. Makes me want to see this movie again!
I could watch this over and over, and never tire of it. Seeing Baryshnikov's feet beside Gregory Hines' feet really lets a non-dancer see just how different their styles are. Amazing.
Misha is such an amazing dancer! He has perfect line and technique, this ease and grace and confidence in all steps! If only more dancers were like him..
I LOVE THIS!!! I have an old copy of it that I taped off of HBO many years ago, and sometimes I get it out to watch it. Thank you for putting one of my all-time favorite dance scene! I got to meet Mikhail once, and saw him perform twice..........there has never been anyone like him, and probably will never be another! What a gorgeous man! I always loved Gregory Hines and his tap dancing too, and am sad that he is no longer with us.
I saw the trailer when this film first came out and thought that it was not for me. This clipper persuaded me to buy the DVD and it is great. My husband was hooked from the first scene - what an opening sequence.
I'm a dance choreographer, I couldn't have said it better! BETCSU. I love that they are doing their own style of dance, MB is difficult to dance with because of his training and massive talent! People don't realize that MB is actually a much better athlete than any highly paid American athlete (NBA, NFL), which annoys me. He could easily do what they do, but very few, if ANY could do what he does!!!! Also, he trains harder and longer than any of them!
i picked up an old video copy in my youthand nearly wore it our watching the dancing. it was a real pleasure to remeber this wonderful film and dancing.
In this type of dance, there aren't many in history that hold a candle to Baryshnikov, but Hines' tap background adds so much flavor to this dance that he is almost more mesmerizing to watch. Mikhail is so ridiculously perfect he makes it look effortless, but HInes shows you the work that goes into it. Both virtuosos, and yes, I miss Gregory as well.
This scene rules! "White Nights" wasn't a great movie, but worth watching to see these dance masters do their stuff. Great clip, thanks for posting! Gregory Hines RIP.
Brilliant!!! Barishnikov is phenomenal. I was only 5 years old when I saw this movie in theatres. Brings back memories. TO ME... Russian culture is the most beautiful culture of all time. To each his or her own.
And both dancers have their own special quality that they bring to it. These are my two favorite dancers of all time :) This makes my day better, every time I watch it.
Two great talents of the dance. Fantastic! I am excited, to see so much talent overflowing in front of my eyes on the feet of a giant of the dance and the tap!
Thanks SO much for posting..my favorite part of this wonderful film too. 2 legends! kickin' it! I miss Gregory Hines..such an amazing artist and he and Baryshnikov TEAR it up in this sequence and the entire movie. INCREDULOUS! :)
oh yes! it is a excellent moment in the film, such a fantastic dancing duo they make! and how sad mr hines has passed. what a classy guy he was. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! god bless u.
También es una de mis escenas favoritas, por que refleja la belleza de la danza de escuela, y a su vez, esa ruda armonía de el baile callejero. Gracias por subir tan hermoso fragmento! Thanks for this beautiful pice of pleasure!
My favorite too. Love Hines and Baryshinov, the raw and the balletic, beautiful together, and one of the most memorable moments of one of my favorite 80's movies.
They created absolute magic together. Some of it was captured in Lionel Richie's "Say You Say Me," which I do not recall being on its soundtrack. Peace be with Gregory now, always, and forever.
The dance is wonderfully choreographed, combining both ballet and tap. Baryshnikov was schooled in both methods of dance; I don't believe Hines was. Yet Hines performed those leaps and moves just as well. Wonderful video. Great movie for forgotten times, too... when people had to "defect" to get out of the former Soviet Union.
Artists long for freedom to try new things, but Baryshnikov, stifled in Russia had the courage to defect so he could do so. He was brilliant in modern dance, found Martha Graham very hard to do and went beyond her to dance on Broadway and become an innovator with Mark Morris in modern dance. What a gift to the world! Alas, visits from the Bolshoi and Kirov Companies came to an end. I wonder if there are still great dancers in Russia. In Russia, art has no support. Art is only for the glory of the state. So sad, from Nijinsjky, Pavlova, Nureyev to now. How much we owe the defectors!
Thank you so much for posting this. Two of my favorite dancers in ever, together on screen...well, that made me a happy 15 year-old. And now I'm a happy 40 year-old, to see it again.
I noted that Gregory Hines used his arms and hands in a more natural way. Baryshnikov's style was much more subdued and ballet-like with his hands and arm movements. What a joy to watch. I watched it twice so I could concentrate on them one at a time.
I cried when Gregory Hines died and I had not even seen him in all that much stuff, I just knew the world had really lost someone special...ive become a big fan of mr. vincent d'onofrio and Greg was excellent with him in two movies...in good luck he played a cripple and that's when i really saw that his acting went beyond just all of his dancing talent...I really miss him and his work....GB
Thank you for posting this video. My best friend, a dancer, and I saw this movie probably something like 10 or 12 times while at the movie theater. Great movie. I think I'll look it up on Netflix and watch it. :)
A perfect and harmonious fusion between the styles of Tap and Ballet in a very masculine choreography in their concepts. One of the best choreographies ever filmed in the movies featuring such masters as the famous Gregory Hines, artistic heir of Sammy Davis Jr., along with Mihail Varishnikov, who introduced ballet to the strengthening of the male figure in choreography. In short EXCELLENT BY EVERY SIDE
@GettnBooted I did not cry but I was stunned because his death seemed so sudden when in actuality he had been suffering from cancer a long time. He was a true talent who had only begun to scratch the surface with his potential.
This is a great video. I was lucky enough to get to take a class with Gregory Hines and Savion Glover and they are both amazing! If you have not seen Jelly's Last Jam, you should. It stars Gregory & Savion.
I would have done the same!
I adore White Nights, the dancing, the story, the acting....all of it! A great movie...too bad Gregory is no longer here. :0(
I love Gregory Hines - I mean, it's not easy to hold one's own when dancing next to Baryshnikov! But he does. And Baryshnikov himself is fantastic as ever. Rest in peace Gregory...you were an excellent dancer! Baryshnikov...you were absolutely stunning in movement and attractiveness!!! What talent you have! Thank you for coming to America!
Misha, you did it all for the joy of freedom! Enjoy your retirement as we enjoy our memories of your lighting up so many spheres of dance!
OMG What amazing talent both men have! I can't get over watching them effortlessly moving! I love Misha in every movie that I have seen him in. I just wish that he would make another movie. Probably my favorite “dance” in just about any movie.
I rewatch the movie especially for this scene.
I love how you can see the subtle differences in technique when they are side to side. Both are incredible dancers.
To see the two of them side by side masters of their own body and movement...it's awesome. Such precision and grace.

the two different styles coming together, with the best of each performing, It is one of my favorite dances.

Best two and a half minutes in a dance movie in thirty years!!! LOL
I'm such a fan!!
It's amazing because it's such a masculine dance, but so languid, fluid, graceful.
I saw the trailer when this film first came out and thought that it was not for me. This clipper persuaded me to buy the DVD and it is great. My husband was hooked from the first scene - what an opening sequence.
both excel with their own style...together they are magic
Which is why I love this duet so much. Seeing how well two dancers, gifted beyond belief, can make such different styles mix so beautifully.
Loved this when it was out, the dancing the music. I miss Gregory Hines.
The ultimate "dream team"!God...i love them both, but i love & miss Gregory more. What a blessing God gave us to have him at all.
I'm a dance choreographer, I couldn't have said it better! BETCSU. I love that they are doing their own style of dance, MB is difficult to dance with because of his training and massive talent! Brilliant performance! Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines: Superb!
i just love how these 2 different dance styles work so well together
I got an enormous crush on Mikhail after I saw him in this movie, especially this scene. The grace! He makes those moves look effortless.
i picked up an old video copy in my youthand nearly wore it our watching the dancing. it was a real pleasure to remeber this wonderful film and dancing.

I love this...thank you to the one who put it here! I have been to a performance of Gregory Hines and he blew me away!
i love the shift in tempo at 1 minute...i used to sit and watch that sequence over and over and tried to learnt it when i was little
This scene rules! "White Nights" wasn't a great movie, but worth watching to see these dance masters do their stuff. Great clip, thanks for posting! Gregory Hines RIP.
I love seeing their different styles put together. It's amazing a truly unique they both are!
Brilliant!!! Barishnikov is phenomenal. I was only 5 years old when I saw this movie in theatres. Brings back memories. TO ME... Russian culture is the most beautiful culture of all time. To each his or her own.
Brilliant. . Both are awesome same routine but they each brought their own style it. Two legends!
And both dancers have their own special quality that they bring to it. These are my two favorite dancers of all time :) This makes my day better, every time I watch it.
Loved this movie so much I saw it by myself over ad over back in the day. Didn't even bother totell my homies. They wouldn't understand.
I worship the ground that this scene walks on. Brilliant.
this is so lovely- I can watch it over and over again.
Two great talents of the dance. Fantastic! I am excited, to see so much talent overflowing in front of my eyes on the feet of a giant of the dance and the tap!
i REALLY want to see this movie!!! Baryshnikov is so amazing and Hines is too but in such a different way!!!
My favorite scene in the movie,
Thank you, soooo much for this video !! I've just looked for it on a shop today, but couldn't find it. Great dancers, great moment !!! xoxo, Viv
The similarity is the awareness of the space they hold...incredible!

This is one of my favorite dance routines ever!! It's classic and timeless!

Two of my dance heroes in one film oh my gosh. Just love them!!
My favorite too. Love Hines and Baryshinov, the raw and the balletic, beautiful together, and one of the most memorable moments of one of my favorite 80's movies.
A Masterpiece performed by 2 Great Artists!!!
Awesome. I wish I could dance this way. I love this scene and never get tired of watching it.
It doesn't get any better that this! I love it!

Indeed, one of the greatest tap dancers. My tap idol that I can never live up to xD
One of the coolest dance scenes I've ever seen in a movie! Pure classic!
Toujours le même plaisir et la même émotion ..Magnifique !
Excellent!!! I love this scence with them dancing together. All I can say is SMOOTH!!!

I LOVE this dance! :)
It has so much rythm!
Greg and Misha... geniuses!!
Absolutely amazing, I can watch this over and over.
OMG, sooooooooooooooooooo amazing!! I love these two!! RIP Greg!!
OMG, Its in another language, But this is hard to find on youtube in any language. Love it. Always!
Greatest dance routine.I tried to do it in skating,i enjoyed doing it so much as i learned ballet too.
FAntastic clip, even more beautiful in russian.
I love it!
Thanks!!!
Thank you for posting this video. My best friend, a dancer, and I saw this movie probably something like 10 or 12 times while at the movie theater. Great movie. I think I'll look it up on Netflix and watch it. :)

Damn, I'm gonna miss Gregory Hines! I loved watching that guy tap hi heart out! This scene with Baryshnikov will always be memorable!
As for Hines, may he never be forgotton. Can I get an Amen.
@GettnBooted I did not cry but I was stunned because his death seemed so sudden when in actuality he had been suffering from cancer a long time. He was a true talent who had only begun to scratch the surface with his potential.
I remember this film from when I was a child. Good memories. Loved it.
One word comes to mind...MAGIC!!!!
I haven't seen this in years! It's also my favorite scene in the movie. Thanks for posting it.
I was 11 when this movie came out, truly this was one of best duos dances and still is! good pic!
fun dance...great...RIP Gregory Hines.
Wow, like walking on air! Amazing
JUST AWESOME MY GOD
This is a great video. I was lucky enough to get to take a class with Gregory Hines and Savion Glover and they are both amazing! If you have not seen Jelly's Last Jam, you should. It stars Gregory & Savion.
I think that's why it's so fun to watch them do it: The difficulty level is relatively low so it's like watching these masters play.
Baryshnikov is just so classy and elegant, it's perfect. Hines was great, but Mikhail's style is beautiful.
great performance, we miss you guys !
