The Brazilians call their Akara, Akaraje in Yoruba language Akara Aje means Akara for trade (commercial), Akara can also be fried and given out to visitors and strangers as an offering(saara) when someone dies in Yoruba culture, this is called Akara Oku, meaning Akara for the dead.

Most of this food has African origins but not Garri because cassava is original to South America and the first people to make Garri (farinha de mandioca) were the South American indigenous peoples.

Akara je is Eʋegbe or Ewe language. It simply means red Akara because of the red oil which they used to fry it.

Absolutely love the content! But we must also acknowledge the impact Afro Brazilians had on Africa- things like chilies and Cassava were introduced TO Africa and not the other way around
