Thanks to Guilherme ( / @rio4fun ) for taking us around Brazil.
SALVADOR, BAHIA - Before ever going to Brazil, Salvador was one of the top cities I wanted to visit - and finally this is the time. In this all out ultimate street food tour of Salvador we’ll focus especially on Afro-Brazilian food and culture, the heart of Salvador, Bahia. The people were amazing, the food was delicious. #Salvador #BrazilianFood #Acarajé #streetfood
Sao Joaquim Market - To begin this street food tour we started in the morning at Sao Joaquim Market, one of the main fruits and vegetables market, with restaurant and food as well. One thing you’ll see all over the market, different from other parts of Brazil is dendê oil, the orange palm oil originally from West Africa.
Recanto Da Lucia - At the market we ate breakfast at Recanto Da Lucia, a small local Brazilian food stall serving amazing dishes like feijoada and pirão. Total price - 80 BRL ($20.61)
Dona Susana - Next up on this Afro-Brazilian food tour of Salvador, we drover to Dona Susana, a restaurant under the highway, with a million dollar view. The main dish to eat in Bahia is Moqueca Bahiana, a stew of fish or seafood in palm oil and coconut milk. Her’s was outstanding as was the ensopado de camarão and her version of pirão. One of the most stunning locations so far in Brazil. Total price - 87 BRL ($22.41)
Pelourinho - This is the center of the historic city of Salvador, with a distinct Portuguese style and influence. If you look around, you might think you’re in Portugal.
Capoeira - Pelourinho is a center of art and culture and I had a chance to learn about Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, but a dance at the same time. It’s amazing to watch and they even volunteered me to stand as they came dangerously close to kicking me!
Elevador Lacerda - In Pelourinho you’ll also find the Elevador Lacerda, which takes you from lover Salvador to the upper part of Salvador.
Price - .15 BRL ($0.03) per person
Mercado Modelo - One of the main central old city markets in Salvador, Bahia is Mercado Modelo, and while most of the market is pretty touristy, Jacibar on the outside serves up delicious local dishes. We ordered Xinxin de Galinha, Bobó de camarão, and Caruru. It was an incredible meal. Total price - 180 BRL ($46.37)
Tambores e Cores - Samba beats represent Salvador, Bahia, and the thundering drums are a must see when you’re in Bahia, Brazil.
Boteco Di Janela - In the evening we went to Boteco Di Janela, a bar and restaurant, friendly owners, and delicious seafood. We ate sarapatel - a blood stew, and sururu - small local mussels.
Acarajé da Ivone - If there’s one Brazilian street food snack you have to eat in Salvadar, it’s Acarajé, a life-changing bun of blackeyed peas deep fried in palm oil and stuffed with vatapa, caruru, shrimp, and salad. It’s is unbelievable and the owners at Acarajé da Ivone were equally as friendly and hospitable. I also had an Abara, the same thing except the black eyed pea fritter is steamed instead of fried. Price - 8 BRL ($2.06) per
Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil, exceeded my expectations - the food and people were outstanding and made it a city and destination I will never forget. What a stunning combination of natural beauty, food, and hospitality.

Before visiting Brazil, what I knew was Football, Amazon Rainforest, and Brazilian BBQ.
This trip was a massive eye-opener and learning experience.
From feijoada in the favelas of Rio, to pequi in Goiás, to feijão tropeiro in Belo Horizonte, to açaí, tacacá, and jambu in Belém, to moqueca and acarajé in Salvador.
Honestly, not everything was easy and smooth in Brazil: traveling, filming while walking around with camera gear, and keeping safe. But for all the risk, the people we met along the way were some of the most warm, hospitable, and diverse, of anywhere.
A massive thank you to Guilherme and Rafa from Rio4Fun - this trip wouldn’t have been possible without them: ruclips.net/channel/UCqKjl-xepqcSTkJGR9pq_vQ

I am from Ghana, West Africa and visited Salvador de Bahía last year for the first time. You can absolutely see the West African influence in the food and culture. They have preserved it so well, that everything reminded me of home. A huge part of the food is basically the same just with different names and some dishes have a little bit of a twist to them.
Bahia's food is the best in Brazil, thank you!

It's very interesting for me. Although in USA you can find many restaurants from different nationalities in the world but when you think about the national food of US you see it's just a fast food or something like that which can we say it's a some kind of Anglo Germanic food. While in Brazil and other Latin American countries beside of Spanish Portuguese foods, African, native Americans foods and... are accepted as Brazilian food. ❣️ I like Latin America.

Look at my people! In Nigeria, we refer to "Acarajé" as "Akara". The steamed version called "abara" in Salvador Bahia is called "Moi moi" in Nigeria.
fcentauri8 They are right. It’s Akara Aje which means Akara for business or sale. They got the name exactly right
I want to know nigeria, i live here in salvador/ bahia.
In Ghana 🇬🇭 we call the fried version koose and the steamed version tubani

Every diaspora preserved African cuisine, Jamaicans, Haitians, Caribbean and more, but nothing like the people of Bahia-Salvador, they even preserved the original names, and did not forget the palm oil.

This is just incredible, I am Igbo from Nigeria and the Acaraje in my country is called Akara in the south and in the north Kose, here we fry it with groundnut or peanut oil and the Abara like shown here in steamed in plant leaves, here at home in Nigeria we have the same dish, black-eye peas or beans pudding wrapped in leaves or in pockets made out of foil or thick polythene bags then steamed, it's popularly called Moi Moi or Olele in the South East of my country where I come from.
Most of our soups in the southern part of my country is cooked with Palm Oil.
I also prefer Akara that is fried with palm oil.
Some people say that "acarajé" comes from "akara je", with "je" meaning "to eat" or something close to it - I just don't remember in which language.
@@c.varela Hello Caio Acaraje is a West African bean cake that originated from West Africa particularly Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and Togo which are all Neighboring countries. Just wanted to say thanks! My wife and I are in Salvador now visiting all these spots! There’s no better way to learn about a culture than eating locally
I love you Mark wines
Vc n deve ser baiano então, pq o quanto q eles têm orgulho das coisas dele é impressionante
fica meio a meio, muitos não valorizam e muitos valorizam
INFELIZMENTE sempre foi assim.

Mark always brings out the best in World food, and his expressions create a feeling of having tasted the food yourself.
Everything he eats is with passion.
Only Mark can make everything he eat seem like they are all incredible in every way. Thank you

God bless Brasilia, love from Kongo kinsahasa 🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩
Lots of Africans from Kongo were deported to Brasil and Haiti 🇭🇹. The Kongo warriors were instrumental in defeating the french.
@Justin Rubondo People were captured and brought from many different places along the entire west coast of Africa from Sierra Leone all the way south, and even some people from the eastern side of the continent. Many black people in the Americas have west African DNA (Wolof, Yoruba, Igbo, Mende, Dahomey... the list is long!) along with DNA from Cameroon, Congo, Angola, even Mozambique and Madagascar, and a lot of intermixing happened between all the groups that arrived.

I'm visiting Bahia this September , I've heard a lot about the Food , it's cooked totally different from the mainstream Brazilian food. I heard also about the beautiful beaches. I'm so excited and I can't wait :-P......greetings from the Philippines.
So jealous! I'm from the Philippines, too, and has been curious about Brazil because there are a lot of similarities with the culture, place, and food. Brazilians and Filipinos love consuming avocados as dessert/shake for example. :)
Good Travel ! God bless you
@Oni Renkai Gamer pls dont take your phone out to the streets, otherwise the thieves will rob you.
