Is Damascus a composite material, stronger than either of the steels that go into it, or is it just cosmetic, and one or the other types of steel could make a functionally identical blade?

@@joe-wt7oe done well, Damascus is as strong as the base steels. Never better. It’s just for aesthetics though.

What a gorgeous spearhead. Truly made me want it. That feathering was so incredible, and thank you so much for sharing how the pattern progressed, that was a very helpful and nice addition. I've been wanting a strong spear for years, but I can never find good ones unless it's just the heads, so maybe I'll have to go that route and just work a stave myself for it.
    You are a wonderous forger!

4:00 in I totally dig how your video is set up, great camera work and obviously, great craftsmanship, but the thing I really like is your narration and how you explain what's going on, and the little graph in the bottom left corner, BRILLIANT !!!!! Great idea.
I watch a couple of different forging channels, probably some you know, but yours stands out, yours is different, in a good way.
Thank you for breaking it down for us layman......
Okay, back to the show 👍👍
    Aaaaaaand I'm back,
This turned out INCREDIBLE, that feather pattern looks amazing, almost like you know what you're doing, huh, crazy.
Whoever commissioned this is one lucky sumb!tch, I'd love to have this. I don't think it would see much war action though, it'd be more of a, wall hanger art piece, at least that's what I'd use it for. Great job dude, your craftsmanship is on a whole other level.

Stunning work love the pattern, as a non metal worker I was wondering how many hours it took to make. keep it up you make some amazing stuff

Since there isn't as much finish work on this (no guard, no complex handle) it was about 40 hours or so I think. Thanks for watching!

Yes it was. It always deteriorated a bit on each use. This time it’s toast. I need to make a thicker one next time that doesn’t flex. Thanks for watching.

Awesome blade. What would you suggest for steel type to make a splitting wedge. Trying Turkish twist now then to feather. Thanks for all your vids and tips!

For a splitting wedge, any of tool steels are great. 1095 is a great steel for axes. Thanks for watching, Jeffrey.

Could you split it from both ends and leave the middle connected and do a kind of mirrored feather pattern?

Hey, I know this is completely unrelated, I was just watching your first mosaic bowie build video. After etching, you coffee darkened it then you said you baked on the oxides. I've never heard baking it before, can you explain that and the finishing or point me to a video where you or someone else does. Thanks
