Thanks for watching. Cheers
My mother in law used to love this song. Seeing it played so beautifully literally brought me to tears. Missing you ma!
Best I've heard by someone who didn't write it! Prettiest piece ever written, IMHO.
You nailed it. God bless you...
I've seen Carlos play this "live" 5 different times, and not come close to being accurate. Shut up n Play has a gifted ear, and super technical ability. Great job of one of my favorite guitar songs from Santana. Jesus you've played this well...wow
Allen C. From what I read, this is based on the recorded album Ambraxis, not a live version. SU&P, Amazing job and well done as always. Appreciate your Channel.
Buddy, this demo just brought me to tears.
You took me all the way back to a special time and place in my life when I was able to sit in my beautiful own home and learn this song note for note (I see I had some things wrong too) over and over - that was a moment of peace for me.
Sadly not too long after that year I sustained a brain injury in a horror life story I won't bore you with here and I lost all my guitar skill. And I lost wll my properties and everything I worked for too.
So I had to start again. Your videos are helping me. Thank you. I will study your lessons on this. It will take me a long time as my brain now takes extra time to absorb things now these days.
I've never found a good tutorial on this song before now.
Also, two of my dearest friends were famous guitarists who have played with Carlos Santana himself - one died a couple of months ago and the other just died last weekend - both played Samba Pa Ti to perfection.
So I'm feeling quite heartbroken watching this demo right now.
You nailed it.
All the best from Australia. :-)
Black magic woman
Heartwarming & Sad but we must all go on and Never Give UP! Me too, always working to be a better player. Fight for the Good, down with the Bad through troubled times. God Bless us All,,, from the USA!
I only want to tell to the 12 guys that thump down that how ignorant they are. This is the best performance of a such a difficult song that I ever heard. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Envy. That explains it all.
RUclips comment section. Happens to everyone regardless of how good their content is.
They probably don't know what the hell music and guitar playing is. In anycase, we are no longer able to see the thumbs down numbers in 2024, which is quite stupid and dictatorial in my opinion.
12 dicks.
I so much appreciate your tutorials, since I'm old guy who grew up with Santana, thank you for your comments because I feel Carlos is having a conversation with his listeners when he is playing his guitar. He always surrounds himself with musicians and singers who do the same.
It's just incredible how close to the actual thing you can get... You never ceases to amaze me.
Best tutorial of Samba Pa ti ever. I had always preferred the album version over his live concert versions. Thank you.
This man is a Genius !!!The greatest!

This is the most authentic version of the original as played by Santana on the 1970 Abraxas album, that I have heard. It is also very close in tonality to the original. Santana improvises quite liberally in his live performances and so long as his band keep up with the beat and timing, he literally does as he likes. Great job. This might even inspire me to try and forget the arthritis in my fingers and give guitar playing another go.
The genius of this is overwhelming.
I’ve pretty much been learning and learning this guitar tune for months and months and I’ve got every note down. I still need to polish it up and develop my speed. My pinky doesn’t want to work sometimes so I mostly use three fingers so I struggle a bit to reach certain notes, but I’ve learned all of it. I practice every morning for about an hour until my hand gets numb. One day I’ll post on RUclips, but not yet. I love the tutorials for part 1 and 2 of this song.
I bought his album when it came out and took my telecaster and a pad of paper and wrote down 2-3 notes at a time, pulling the needle off the lp and doing that over and over until I had about 1/2 of this song. Seeing what you are doing, I started in the wrong place as my first note was on the A string 12th fret. Whereas I had many people impressed with what I had I am blown away with your dissecting of this song.I have watched many a youtube persons version. These notes are burned in my mind. You do a flawless version. Thank you... but now I know just how bad I have been all these years. LOL Thanks
"YOU'RE THE BEST GUITARIST I'VE EVER LISTENED TO. AND, I'M SO GLAD YOU SHARE YOUR TALENT WITH US.
YOU SIR, MAKE IT SO EASY TO LEARN SONGS I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY. YOU ARE SO THOROUGH AND PRECISE. I'VE LEARNED ELP'S "FROM THE BEGINNING", AMERICA'S "TIN MAN", PETER FRAMPTONS "BABY, I LOVE YOUR WAY" FROM YOUR SUPERB TECHNIQUES AND YOUR PASSION FOR PLAYING SONGS LIKE THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS DID.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'M VERY APPRECIATIVE OF YOUR MUSICIANSHIP" - ANTHONY Z.
Wow! Came to learn how to play this classic but keep coming back just to hear you play it again. Fantastic!
How can there be "thumbs down" ?!!! This guy is terrific. His rendition is flawless and may be better than Carlos.
Easily one of the best covers of a tune on RUclips. WOW !
This is wonderful. The only guy to get the right 'retro'68' sound and the most accurate positions to play the original solo. Most don't sound right because they playing the solo in the incorrect areas.
So wonderful to have you do these tutorials of great classics
I remember first hearing this one and you do a really great accurate rendition with real soul
Many thanks you are not just teaching you are inspiring
Man oh man...Ive been loving this song since it first came out....now I finally know how to "attempt" to play it !!!!!!!!
Thank you so much
Probably the best cover i've seen. Great tone you really nailed it!!! Awesome playing.
Man, if i didn't know this was a demo, i would think it's the studio version... jeez, you nail them every time
Outstanding!!! You do Carlos proud; impeccable timing and cadence.
i have only watched two of your youtube demos...this one and black magic woman...man, you are amazing...now i know how much work i will need to do to get to where i want to be...thanks for the kick in the ass...keep on keepin' on
Absolutely amazing! Beautifully done! On of my favorite songs! You rock!
You did Santana proud my man love and blessings!!
That's one of the baddest songs ever written by Carlos that you for sharing that with us.
Note for note amazing! I love it, Carlos🙏🏼
Perfection. Absolutely flawless.
I have never seen or heard on all of carlos performing this great song live that compares to your feel and accuracy. I dont know whether carlos is off into improvisation kaleidoscope or he's simply can't duplicate his own legendary creation. But you sir have faithfully restored this classic and I am in awe and appreciation for your incredible ear.... only performance of this song done correctly I can find in 2019!
Santana,as you know has performed this
piece thousands of times, and is responsible for bringing this traditional
Mexican folk song into popularity world
wide.
When I hear a band perform,I am excited to hear the songs played that
we like very much, but don't want
to hear them as they were in the
studio. We have records for that at
home.
We all change through time, and these
songs change also,the artists grow
and the music becomes a living,
changing entity.
Seen the group many times,allways
enjoying the variations,and yes
the improvisation of this and
the rest of there songs.
Very much like this lesson and
demonstration of a seemingly
simple,yet complex piece!
Mr godhand, your comment is well taken and articulated. I remember years ago this subjective debate. If you want to hear the studio version then just play the record right? Playing live offers the privilege of the artist giving us something new, innovative and possibly superior....? Maybe...my preference is, play what we expect first, as we anticipate, a human response that is visceral, then go crazy with new offerings.... the problem is, in my opinion, samba pati on the record is so mt. Rushmore, that carlos' improvisation don't measure up, just an opinion....
Superb demo....Thank you so much.
Wow.. the best cover of this song ever.
The most accurate tone and play ever! thanks for sharing it! rock on!
Carlos is one of those guys guys that no matter what
band he's paying with you know it's him.
What an amazing talent. Your groove is spectacular.
This is so pleasing to watch
If there is a rating from 1 to 10, you're 11. In my own opinion, you are the best of the best guitarists I've ever seen in my life and the best tutor ever in youtube.
I am working on part 2 it improved my playing immensely gave insight into the creative thinking of Maestro Carlos Santana
Mi Amigo !
Absolutely beautiful work, and even more beautiful feeling for the song and music.
I have always since this song first came out, loved it because it is so personal; such a beautiful Samba Pa Ti - a Samba For You...
We are so blessed by your incredible, detailed, perfect, hard work you do for all of us!
I could listen to this all day..
Thank you so much !

Beautiful...thankyou for your inspiration..sincerely appreciated.
It's not 100% but even Carlos Santana himself cannot come even close to this fantastic performance when compared to the original recording. This is by far, the most accurate cover of Samba Pa Ti I have ever heard anywhere!
Perfect. You just nailed Santana at his best
I didn't think there was anyone else that could actually play Samba Pa Ti; amazing. I have been trying for a long time to achieve the nuances, but you have them licked. It is not as easy to play as it may first appear, and I suspect some that think it is easy maybe fooling themselves ... bookmarked the tutorial for future reference ...
Don't know about the rest of you out there, but this looks note perfect to me?
Great job.
That's because it is... incredibly so!
Santana would probably say it’s more about the feel than the notes but Andy has both!!!
I know you said the song is in the Key of G major. Are you playing in A Dorian or G major for the main opening melody? I understand both share the same notes, but I always try to understand where the notes come from as it helps me visualize and learn better. I am only asking this question for knowledge as I am trying to wrap my brain around the concept of modes, so please don’t take my question as anything other than curiosity.
Your lessons and playing are always excellent and much appreciated.
Fantastic - Pure & Simple.
Exactly how I would have played it... Excellent work. Like everything else on your site. Thank you for your efforts
Holy Cow, Unbelievable good thanks so much
I’ve always loved this song, thanks for the demo.
You are one bad ass guitar player and a great teacher Thank You
Infeckincredible in every way!
Just marvellous - I am in awe, jaw dropping, many thanks.
It's been 51 years since I last heard this
I think that, 90 percent of playing guitar frustration, comes from not being able to get "The Right Tone".. I know this because ; it has plagued me for years!!.. When I see people so effortless get the tones I get this great envy ( In a good kind of way). This was awesome !! As always ..top notch performance !!!
Your an awesome guitarist, thanks for teaching and posting, God bless.
You are way above genius!
Es una música para toda edad,no cansa oírla .Santana eres un virtuoso además de un gran mexicano
I love this song .and you play it very well . Just like Carlos Santana does . I'm trying to learn to play it. I hope I will succeed .
Hi. Great song. I have a question. First I’m new to guitar and I’m learning. How do you get the rest of the rhythm minus the guitar sound? Is that a program?
Thank you so very much. You make my day Happy.
Perfectly performed!
A fantastic lesson
awesome, that guitar is singing..
Awesome playing, the best by far.
Thank you, more Santana like this please!
beautiful absolutely beautiful!!!!!
Nice music, my mom also love this tone.
Can't get much better than that!
aw man, got melted face all over my favourite Santana shirt!
An amazing guitar player!!
Any chance you could put the backing track up. If I manage to learn it, it would be great to have the backing track to play along to
Thanks Bob
This is the song I've been looking for since 1977 or 78. I was working as a cowboy on the Gang Ranch a huge but remote cattle ranch as a cowboy and I was with my boss in his pickup driving around some cattle for some reason when this song came on the radio. I sat there silently listening to this while he was driving. I knew it was Santana but I never heard the name of the song announced by the DJ. I said to myself I will remember this song and look it up when I get a chance. For years I wasn't sure which song it was that I heard. Was it Transcendence? Was it Moon Flower...Europa? ....I was never sure...until today when I watched your video. I never would have guessed it had a name like "Samba Pa Ti". ... Yup...this is the song.
FLAWLESS VICTORY!(performance)
Outstanding.
I just can say...Great!
I LOVE THE NAME SHUTUP & PLAY! WHEN I VISIT OTHER HOW TO PLAY SITES THEY TALK U TO DEATH AND SHOW OFF HOW THEY PLAY! THANK U. YOUR SITE IS REFRESHING!!! MICHAEL.
does anyone know where i can find the same backingtrack of this video to practice?
Great stuff as always - I guess the "thumbs down" folks are people who don't know how to play a radio.
Nnnnice! I don’t know whether or not to plug my guitar in and try, or put bit on eBay. Beautiful rendition of a truly landmark song.
Excellent playing. May I ask what your setup is please ?
Thank you for the beatifull video
I've wanted to learn this for a long time. Thank you!
Great tone! What were amp/effects were you using? Thanks
Un-fricken believable ,,,, Never thought I would say this -- but I prefer this version over the original :-).. Honestly, brilliant... Just brilliant...
Alright steady there man just put the pipe down. Lol
Incredible perfection!

Brilliant!!! Nuff said...
Stunning😌
Hey Shutup & Play, where did you find the backing track for this?
Just type in “samba pa ti backing track” there are at least two good versions of it.
Yeah man, great work as always. And I fully agree with your comments on this Santana work. I was just listening and watching your fingerings and discovered, how I myself could play it some other ways, using the strings you do :-)
carlolf
Best yutuber on guitar.
What type of strings do you normally use for your LP? Slinkys or something else?
Is that Carlos playing ? Awesome!
Good job man, i love your videos.
Dude , brilliant, do you have any original stuff on Spotify, or artists that you have played on
i love goosebumps on a hot day
