Hi everyone! I've recorded a new 4K playthrough for much better video quality - please check out that video instead! ruclips.net/video/F0pYojR9Xf8/видео.html
Out of all the classic mega man games, this is #2 on my most favorites. The opening, the boss theme, all of the Robot master themes even, are all super well composed.
2-5 are AMAZING games for sure. 6 and 1 were good too, of course mostly because 1 was the origin, and 6 seemed to be climactic with Wily going to jail. 5 is fun, all the way around. 4 was probably tied with 3 for me, in terms of best classic megaman games.
One thing with Mega Man 5 that is cool is how it also plays onto what happened in the end of Mega Man 4, with Dr. Wily using Dark Man to set up Proto Man due to wanting payback for Proto Man betraying him by helping save Kalinka while Mega Man fought Dr. Cossack. Even with repeating the fake villain path that Mega Man 3 began for the classic series, Mega Man 5 had some cool stage design and music too, as well as things like improving on the Mega Buster upgrade 4 introduced with the Super Mega Buster thanks to Dr. Cossack as well as bringing in Beat as a new companion on top of Rush and Eddie.
Two things I like about the Mega Man 5: 1) The M Tank. Although you can only get one, it refills your health plus all your weapons. Great power-up 2) BEAT. To get Beat, you have to get each letter in the robot stages that spell MEGAMANV. Beat helps defeat enemies easier. Use him especially when fighting Dark Man disguise as Protoman and Dr. Wily in the capsule.
To be honest, the fact that MegaMan games all have the same format never bothered me. While some stages aren't really that memorable, most are at least fun to play, even if they're forgettable. And I really appreciate in later games that the length is padded out in a better way with the fake villains than it was in 3 with the doc robots, even though 3 is probably my favorite MegaMan. The later games are some of the best looking the NES had to offer, and I think 9&10 are good looking too, I really like the 8-bit look. While the format is the same in every game and it probably always will be, I will always enjoy playing through these adventure, because Megaman is fun.
I LOVE Mega Man 5!! ...Not my favorite, mind you, but I actually love the soundtrack. I didn't really find anything wrong with it. Okay, maybe I'm nostalgic but whatever. It's fun, it's creative, it's Mega Man, and darn it, it's STILL one of the very best the NES has to offer!
Best MegaMan game in the franchise. The bosses were cool. The plot twist with Proto Man and Dark man was interesting. Cool game and graphics with weapons.
I personally enjoyed the second half of the NES era Mega Man games (4-6) more than the First Half (1-3) 4-6 were more polished and had more variety and had better music personally
It's hard to believe in 2022, this game will be 30 years old. It feels like yesterday when I was renting this from a mom and pop video store. My only complaint about Mega Man 5 is how they nerfed Rush to not be game breaking, and how they nerfed the Mega Buster. Granted, they gave it a bigger blast radius at the cost of losing your charge when you take damage. Overall, it's still a great game in the 12 Mega Man (Classic Series) games released over the course of 35 years.
Mega Man 5 is where Mega Man fights “Proto Man” and eight new Robot Masters that Doctor Wily created (Stone Man, Gravity Man, Crystal Man, Charge Man, Napalm Man, Wave Man, Star Man, and Gyro Man, numbered 33-40 because there are 32 others before them in the first four games). It’s where Mega Man first meet Beat, who became his sidekick. "Proto Man" is actually one of four completely evil robots called the Dark Men who tried to make the real Proto Man look bad. It was Wily's plan, after all. I bet Proto Man cleared his name after all the Dark Men are destroyed. I believe that after MM5’s Robot Masters were created, they have good hearts and never wanted to obey Wily, so Wily mind-controlled them (Ask Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot's first book about it). After Mega Man defeated all eight of these RMs, he freed them from Wily’s mind-control, and then Doctor Light adopted these new RMs as his new sons. They are doing jobs (I can say the same to the RMs from the first four games). Boy, I want a remake that has the same graphics and bonus stuff as Mega Man 11. And/or, a 3-D action-adventure remake/version that does all this, and the 3-D part would be like Kirby and the Forgotten Land in 2022 rather than Mega Man X7 (that game was weird).🙏 Stone Man is my favorite in MM5.
I know a lot of people feel "blah" about this Mega Man, but one thing I think is great about it is that the ideas for the bosses in this game were great compared to some of the head scratchers from MM3 and MM4. Um...Hard Man? Top Man? Dust Man? Toad Man? At least this one had some really great bosses.
Not my favorite but there is one moment from my first play I'll always remember: starting the Wily Fortress. You're tasked with saving Dr. Light's life for the first and only time, and you're greeted by a very threatening yet sad song and one of the hardest fortress stages in the series.
replayed this game today... probably died 20+ times but never game overed because of how many lives this game gives you lol it's not the hardest or most creative mega man game in the series, but it's a very fun platformer all the same and it was better than i remembered!
Many have argued that this entry is one of the more refined entries in the NES hexalogy.. .. ..can't say If I agree as several other reviewers have mentioned that the "Beat the Bird" item almost breaks the game and unlike the previous 4 entries, the "Robot Master" weapons don't seem very useful when compared to the "Mega Buster" which had a tremendous boost in width and power.. ...which is probably why they programmed the Charge Shot to reset after taking damage and "Star man's" low gravity stage physics is arguably no different than an underwater stage, right?? Despite that, I do like this entry a lot and prefer this over "MM4" cause I simply LOVE this entry's stage esthetics with it's very detailed spite and background graphics and fun stage themes and gimmicks!! Also, has anyone watched that Megaman OVA featuring the character cast and "Robot Master" weapons from "MM5"?? It's quite a fun animation!! ^_^
I know this has nothing to do with MMV, but I gotta say props to your word usage. I wonder how many people saw the word hexalogy and dismissed it as a mistake. No doubt the same crowd that insists on using quadrilogy over tetralogy ;D
Yes I thoroughly agree with you. I'm currently playing it for the first time via the Legacy Collection and I missed one letter to get the Beat Bird weapon...and the games last bosses like the Dark Man etc feel rather unfair. Up until this point I was really enjoying MM 5 ..but this has changed my opinion of it..nonetheless the stage designs are fantastic and as always the music. I hope I can still beat Wily at the end without Beat...cause the final Dark Man was soooo frustrating
i'd argue beat doesn't really break the game as you don't get it till dark man/wily stages, there it's pretty broken i suppose (makes complete fodder of the final boss lol) and yea most of the weapons arent very strong either but im fine with the mega buster being good and the weapons still have their fair share of uses for making sections easier, even if it isn't as significant as something like MM9 where all the weapons are good and serve a purpose I think the level design and aesthetics are great in this game for sure, the game's a lot of fun to play through overall, my biggest criticism is some of the bosses are too easy or bland (I can buster-only 6/8 of the robot masters in this game which is a rarity for me lol) though I will say the Dark Men can be kind of tricky despite having simple patterns I think I've seen part of that OVA... is it the one where Mega Man jumps out of the screen? I'll have to finish watching it sometime
2-5 are my favorite classic megaman games for sure. 3-4 for me at least, are tied as my favorite. But 5 is an incredibly fun game. Of course, i enjoyed 1 and 6 for their own reasons. Great play-through
I always found gravity man the easiest (by far), due to his pattern. Stone man and napalm man too, somewhat. I always did crystal man and wave man last. As far as the aforementioned, im strictly talking without using their weaknesses; just the M. Buster
Octopuswithcorn It shows him as a robot in the game (his head goes all springy) when you kill the fake one, but yeah, you're right. It's not at all explained in the game. And then Dr. Cossack was the beginning of the "wait, a bad guy that's not related to Dr. Wily?" formula, with all obvious decoys being obvious lol, but Fake Wily was, fittingly enough, a prototype use of a plot template :D
i just turned 31 and wanted to replay all of the MM games. i forgot how difficult they were. i can only beat them playing alongside these Playthrough now
I have to agree with Mega Man 5 being a solid game. I will say that of the most of the master weapons in Mega Man 5 are either TOO situational, just plain suck or are worse versions of the master weapons of previous games (one example being Water Wave; I felt that Water Wave was just a worse version of Bubble Lead from Mega Man 2, but I digress - then again, I use the Mega Buster during the robot master fights (not the re-fights, though - the re-fights I use their weaknesses to kill them off faster)). Also, another thing - WHY did Capcom decide to make a VARIANT of a shield WEAPON? I mean, Power Stone (the shield variant) misses it's targets half the time (making it half-useless), there can't be more than one Power Stone on the screen at a time (making THAT weapon mediocre as all get out - unless you PAUSE the game and cancel the current Power Stone debris on the screen) and USING Power Stone against Charge Man is probably suicide - yes, Power Stone IS the correct weakness to use against Charge Man, but since the thing misses half the time AND the fact that ONLY ONE Power Stone can be on the screen at ANY given time, that means you have to be RIGHT NEXT TO CHARGE MAN TO HAVE A CHANCE OF DOING DAMAGE TO CHARGE MAN WITH IT. Oh, and he's moving most of the time AND he has TWO "invincible" moves that he can do. So I use a charge Mega Buster shot to not deal with the headache of trying to hit (and avoid) Charge Man while TRYING to do damage to him using the Power Stone. However, I did play a hack called Rockman 5: Double Jumper which improves Power Stone's accuracy and actually LETS you fire three Power Stones (in a straight line, instead of that circle motion that Power Stone uses in the original Mega Man 5) at any given time on the screen. Sorry for that rant, but Power Stone is awful to use - so I don't use it. I do love Mega Man 5 DESPITE Power Stone being awful and a pain in the bottom to use (because of it's accuracy being poor) because of it's level design (I mean, there's only one other game in the NES library that uses the gravity gimmick in Gravity Man's stage - that I know of) and Wave Man's stage - while that may be sort of a pain to get through sometimes, I generally do like the jet ski part of that stage, because of it's graphics and level design. Also, it's one of only two stages to use "parallax scrolling" (meaning that different objects in the background move at different speeds than different objects in the foreground - just like in real life)! The other stage to do that is Charge Man's stage. I have to admit - that really impresses me when NES games imitate "parallax scrolling" - like Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 did on the NES.
Not my favorite mega man but it's way better than 6 and definitely one of the more underrated mega man games ever. Personally, I always liked 2 and 4 the best but thats just me. This one is pretty close.
Honestly, I'd say that this one is my least favorite of the original 6. In particular, I found the music to be very uninspired. I can still hum tunes from the first 3 games to this day, and the soundtrack in 4 wasn't super fantastic or anything, but this one was just blah. Compared to 2 and 3 especially, this one is mediocre. Still fun, still a great game overall, just not as good.
What was that, protoman like appeering from above, then the real protoman shoot his buster on fake protoman and Protoman give L Tank to Megaman regain his energy HP to Defeat Fake Protoman AKA Darkman.
Not the best of the classic series, and follows the formula of the previous games, but you can't go wrong when playing a Mega Man game, even if by the 5th game, the formula got a bit tired.
Michael Rhodes I don't hahaha, these Mega Man videos were recorded quite awhile back. I've got quite a bit of stuff already done that is just waiting to be posted
Honestly imo this game is way too reliant on insta-kill things, like most of this game's challenge just boils down to avoiding spikes and bottomless pits, more so compared to every game before.
How id rank all the games. (Haven’t played 11) 10. Mega Man 9. Mega Man 5 8. Mega Man 6 7. Mega Man 8 6. Mega Man 10 5. Mega Man 4 4. Mega Man 3 3. Mega Man 9 2. Mega Man 2 1. Mega Man 7

Dude it’s insane how good you are, definitely one of the best Megaman gameplays I’ve seen for any of the games in the series.
Thanks, I appreciate it! :)
I agree too! Also I have a request ☺ 😊 🙂 😌 😄 Voice reveal PLEASE,

For the NES, these graphics are amazing
By this time Capcom knew how to use the full power of the new. Better detailed sprites and background, improved animation and better color blending.
I mean this is a Japanese game. Their technology is way more advanced than USA.
Imagine how it'd look like when Sequel Wars version of Mega Man 5 comes out
Are still amazing ❤

One thing with Mega Man 5 that is cool is how it also plays onto what happened in the end of Mega Man 4, with Dr. Wily using Dark Man to set up Proto Man due to wanting payback for Proto Man betraying him by helping save Kalinka while Mega Man fought Dr. Cossack. 3, 4,7, 8 and 10 are my favorites.
My favorite will always be #1💖
Best MegaMan game in the franchise. The bosses were cool. The plot twist with Proto Man and Dark man was interesting. Cool game and graphics with weapons.

NintendoComplete, are you going to play Mega Man 6 next?
Can't wait for 6!
NintendoComplete agreed. They made this one way too easy. Awesome music, but way too easy. I forgot how annoying the charge cannon sound is

I hope Mega Man brought his N-word pass before he decided to take down Napalm Man.
Stone Man has probably the most worthless weapon in the game...spin boulders around that miss just about every enemy on screen
I can see why a friend of mine's gov. didn't want this game to be licensed there... Hiya, Hermos Flutter!
Protogen base theme 45:14
Dr willy base theme 47:58
Honestly, I'd say that this one is my least favorite of the original 6. In particular, I found the music to be very uninspired. I can still hum tunes from the first 3 games to this day, and the soundtrack in 4 wasn't super fantastic or anything, but this one was just blah. Compared to 2 and 3 especially, this one is mediocre. Still fun, still a great game overall, just not as good.
I agree about the soundtrack opinion
46:09 Mega Man: WAIT, NO- ACK!!!
good moves megaman for the justice of protoman
12:46 Thats a good idea.
What was that, protoman like appeering from above, then the real protoman shoot his buster on fake protoman and Protoman give L Tank to Megaman regain his energy HP to Defeat Fake Protoman AKA Darkman.
thx for the gameplay, now i can beat the game :)
bruh
What happens if you spell out megaman5?
Gyroman like gyromite
Not the best of the classic series, and follows the formula of the previous games, but you can't go wrong when playing a Mega Man game, even if by the 5th game, the formula got a bit tired.
Such an OK Mega Man game. 6 is way better in my opinion
What I don't like about this game compared to other mega man games are the death spikes that always present in stages
Trivia: Napalm Man's stage is heavily based on Vietnam War thus the game was banned on that country as a result.
The best one

I prefer these human playthroughs to some soulless TAS ballet. Because I'm old!
How do you beat so many games so fast?!
Michael Rhodes I don't hahaha, these Mega Man videos were recorded quite awhile back. I've got quite a bit of stuff already done that is just waiting to be posted
46:09 Instantaneous shot.
Sooo cool thanks for the great video's :)
I am Megaman..
Exploding Tank
i saw someone playing megaman 4 and willy curses protoman at the plot twist. it didn't make any sense on that game.
Legends Always use Mega Buster vs any villain xD
Honestly imo this game is way too reliant on insta-kill things, like most of this game's challenge just boils down to avoiding spikes and bottomless pits, more so compared to every game before.
You are not going to like Megaman 9 and 10 then. Those two games are spikes and bottomless pits galore
I'd think that mega will do some lemonade
Game is still better than 9, 10, and 11.
How id rank all the games. (Haven’t played 11)
10. Mega Man
9. Mega Man 5
8. Mega Man 6
7. Mega Man 8
6. Mega Man 10
5. Mega Man 4
4. Mega Man 3
3. Mega Man 9
2. Mega Man 2
1. Mega Man 7
