    I love that hike! In the fall, Mid-September, the elk are bugling, stars lift your spirits, its a soul journey of Alpine splendor. With the morning light, you arise, wash in pure cool water, refreshed anew. And in such beauty, you reverently leave no trace of your passing. It’s too sacred a place to do otherwise.

    Stumbled on your channel and this was the first video I saw. Great stuff. My family and I moved to Idaho in 95 and it is such a special piece of America. My dad passed away this year and one of his favorite lines was “I wasn’t born in Idaho but I got here as quickly as I could.” He was the quintessential fly fisherman and outdoorsman and he would have loved this. Thank you.

    IMO, there is nothing better in this world than being in the forests of Idaho, especially the Sawtooths. I'm a lifelong Idahoan, while growing up, my parents and brothers always went to the Stanley Basin in the summer.
    My only complaint is the number of people that now come from Sun Valley, ie movie stars. There was a a feeling that I cannot explain. I am now 52, and always feel at peace in an Idaho Forest.

      Thanks! I'm sure you know, it's really hard to figure out how to be genuine on camera, or to genuinely tell a story about something as simple as a hike. Instead of just like "here's the trail, it's pretty, you should do it." That was the big breakthrough for me on this one. It wasn't perfect, they never are, but I did feel like I figured something out. Hence the title.

      @@JonConti I totally understand trying to find that genuine place to share something you love. But I think that’s the key, loving what you’re creating, and being yourself completely. And I think you did a wonderful job genuinely connecting and sharing this place. It didn’t come across as just a hike, or beautiful area.. it came across on a human level of you sharing something you really cared about, that made an impact on you. And I really appreciated that.

      @@Jumboduck12 No wildfires in the wilderness, but right now theres a no fire rule pretty much in all of Idaho. We are in the middle of some crazy wildfires so the Sawtooths are covered in smoke and no fires are allowed. Nothing too special about dispersed camping. There are a couple really specific places you can't camp, but you can camp pretty much anywhere. I think the big thing is trying to camp in a spot thats been used. There are TONS of places to camp out there. Pick one of those spots, and try to not create any new ones.

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  4 года назад +6

      Brian Tolley hey thanks for reaching out about flying drones safely and legally. I try to educate myself about local and federal drone regulations before my trips. On this trip we were in the sawtooth national forest which allows the use of drones. The sawtooth wilderness however does not and you will not see drone footage when I am in a wilderness area. It is illegal to land or take off from the wilderness. I had many conversations about this with officials and built the itinerary around places I could fly. On Alice Toxaway you’ll notice I don’t have drone footage because that’s all in the wilderness.

    You did the right thing and did it with respect. This is our home, me and all of my friends here really hate when people “blow up the spot” kind of like what happened with redfish over the last ten years. And as much as I want to keep it a secret it’s impossible, but the sawtooths are a magical place and I really believe its only for people with the right amount of heart and mostly respect for their surroundings, keep it as it is and always has been . Your ending on this video was a proper one and a respectful one for our back yard. There’s still plenty of secret spots left in the back yard that most will never know about. Cheers.

      You can avoid the first Ridge altogether as you have to drop down into the Draw by starting further up the FR Road. Expect 2 open meadow ridge climbs and then the ascent up the rock formation itself.
      Apparently locals call it Goat Rock.

    I’ve decided ~ Andi Jane Howard ~
    I’m going to make this a little bigger ~ than that.
    It’s my turn.
    Apart of my story ~
    We were in the backcountry ~ in a place I’ll never tell you where. And, I learned a major lesson ~ from one of the finest women our state had ever known.
    She was hard. And, she was mean. Built for real weather and mountains. Running horses. And, tackling real world problems all from her porch.
    And ~ then some little shit came along ~ stole her husband and all of her dreams.
    And ~ like a real woman ~ she left angrier than hell. Rightfully.
    That’s where I came in ~
    She hated me the moment she saw me. She tested me beyond what she wanted to admit ~ in her soul. And, at the end of the our time together ~
    I won her heart. And, I chose to give back her land.
    In Challis ~
    Recognize me yet ~ little girl fake Andi ~
    My story goes way back, Andi. I promise. You’ll lose. This is my home. The last of my lineage ~ the Mohicans of Sacagawea joined with Cherokee ~ so we could survive.
    Moving on to singing ~
    Hand over my money ~ and ~ get out of my state.
    ~~~
    First? My first real vacation ~ ever. Earned.
    I’ll be home soon.
    Love my home ~ please.
    I’m begging the tribes to protect our home.
    Gentle smile ~
    I have another garden to build ~
    Just in case.
    Small smile. Humbled. Grateful.
