    Silk tweeters are pretty common on the audio industry, they *usually* are less harsh than metal ones and they have a more mellow sound to them. Ofc quality may vary that statement.

    I have read a review on the german amazon from a guy who discovered a potential flaw caused by the buoyant design. He took it from indoors to outdoors on a hot day and noticed that the passive radiators bulged out completely. It is caused by the expansion of the air trapped inside due to the temperature increase. He stopped listening to music to avoid damaging the speakers from the inside. He backed it up by pictures too. It would be interesting to see that tested here with a brand new unit.

    • @axeami1354
      @axeami1354 2 года назад +20

      would definitely be interesting, I haven't heard of this from anyone myself. Honestly I can't see the air volume inside being enough to cause that otherwise coke bottles and the like would often pop. I feel its more likely he injected air though the rubber with a syringe or perhaps a battery cell has gone bad and let out some gasses.

      Well, i may had bad luck, but out of 2 anker dongles i got, 2 sucked hard... I got two different models, in different stores, several months apart. And one even gave a finantial loss.
      The power expand+ 5 in 1 (a8338) heats like hell if i plug more than 1 port. Like ethernet and hdmi, or ethernet and usb, or usb and hdmi. It drains my macbook m1 battery like crazy, same for my asus flow x13. It kinda works tho, but i don't like using it and risking damaging my usb-c ports.
      The power expand+ 8 with PD (a8380) was the worst. It's ethernet disconnects every few minutes, sometimes doesnt comeback even disconnecting the hub. It fails often to passthrough the charging to the laptop, and it's hdmi is flaky at best, with it usually messing up the resolution (the resolution is right but it centers the image in the screen and compresses it and destroys the quality). This happens in any laptop i use it in. In my mac i was never able to use hdmi and charging at the same time.
      And this one KILLED my working laptop, it wouldn't charge anymore, even without the hub, i got it replaced thankfully, but it burned the charging circuit.

They messed up our radio in the kitchen area of our restaurant so we went a long time without music and that's not okay, so I picked one up thinking it would be loud enough to hear at least at my station. Nope, it fills our entire server aisle at around 80% volume and we use it almost all week before it needs charged again. Oh, and it sounds amazing. Well Jerry I was pretty surprised to see a Speaker on your channel as well. But I was wondering if the woffers were actually made out of titanium and especially silk tweeters since people were starting to call it plastic titanium look woffers. For the price this speaker is very impressive beating out much more expensive speakers with a custom EQ. I still haven't reviewed this speaker for myself but there are 2 main problems going on with the Boom plus the main issue is when this speaker is exposed to the sun and warm to hot conditions the passive raditors bulge out and lots of distortion will occur until you place it back inside or cool it off. Second it has a peak at 6KHz which makes the music sound pretty harsh at higher volumes. Soundcore is already on these 2 issues so for people wanting to buy this speaker I would wait a bit. Great teardown Jerry keep up the work👍

    I really like your videos. But this one is not up to your level and is nothing but advertising. Here are the reasons why I think this way:
    1. The amount of moving air says absolutely nothing about the sound quality.
    2. To test the tweeter, you could have simply paused the sound.
    3. The cone of the midrange drivers is not made of titanium. It doesn't spark when you accidentally touch it. Just the dust cap. The dustcap does not contribute as much to the sound as the cone itself.
    4. The device would be so easy to build with a replaceable battery, which unfortunately didn't happen. That is not discussed.

    • @victortitov1740
      @victortitov1740 2 года назад

      "The amount of moving air says absolutely nothing about the sound quality." - it actually kinda does say something. For people who are not into sound, quality often equals "lots of bass", and for that you gotta move air. For those who are, quality is mostly a combination of frequency response (and sometimes its dependence on direction, and sometimes also phase response), maximum loudness, distortion, and noise level. Of those, the max loudness/distortion is strongly correlated to how much air it is capable of moving.

    Wish u had took off the heatsink from the amplifier ic so i could have seen what chip they using. It looks like probably a tpa3116d2. And i hope they have a boost converter to make that 7.2v battery voltage to atleast 20v to make their claimed 40w/ch..

    Hah, pleasant surprise; Silk domes made to look like metal domes. I'll take silk, any time. Also good to see a lightweight woofer with a passive resonator. If filtered and powered correctly this should produce a pretty decent low-end without being overly boxy or hollow.
    Props for this review, Zack.
    You seem to know more about how audio works than most people who regularly review audio products. I won't drop any names, but it sure as hell isn't Quinn, the dude knows his stuff :D.
    Anker is definitely one of my goto brands for USB/power pheripherals. I can imagine that, if they paired with a half decent company, they may make a half decent speaker. I'd love to compare this to my (still unbeatable) IKEA Eneby 20 in a video. Let's see if I can win one ;).

  • @alexlittig7927

    To bad it has major overheating issues that causes the passive radiators to stick. If it's in the sun for just a few minutes it will start to distort badly as the radiators expand and stick. No real fix for it. It's a shame because it's a nice speaker. However for practically the same price thr tribit stormbox blast has far more and deeper bass and better mids and highs and it has a awesome light feature. The boom plus has a nasty 6khz peak that's harsh.
    That said the power to weight ratio of the boom plus speaker is probably the best on the market atm.

      @@pixelreflectorpro they also have passive radiators wich work with air pressure wich can be achieved beceause they are water resistant, they have the Same things around the cables and on the motherboard to prevent things from rattleing, they have good sound quality in my opinion and they're pretty rugged too. A lot of simularities don't you think.

    You forgot to mention the speaker arrangement in watts is different as advertised, in 4:13 - 4:27 one can see a woofer of 25w 4ohm and a tweeter of 15w 8 ohm, and it’s advertised as 30w and 10w respectively

    engineers who designed this don't actually use bluetooth speakers. the exterior is scratch damage magnet, should be able to withstand exterior abuse without getting too ugly. the large handle simply takes space, i'd like my speakers to fit in a backpack or the water bottle basket of the backpack
