Hey Zach, I'm an aerospace machinist and have been in the industry over a decade at this point. You had some good ideas up to getting the part clamped down well enough to hold it in place, but something to keep in mind. The endmills are going to also be applying lifting pressure along the helix of the cutter, and the Mitee Bites are applying lateral pressure to hold it. One thing I would look into for your shop is making an aluminum subplate for the table and drill/tapping a grid of pin and tapped holes for work holding and locating. This will let you bolt down subplate fixtures in repeatable locations, but also gives you a soft aluminum plate to drill into. Generally, I would suggest having your fixturing on subplates so that you can create custom cut outs necessary for your operations. In particular with this piece, if the holes that you drilled to not have to be blind holes, you can drill all the way through the part and then use those holes to clamp the part into. If you only pocket out the part on the first operation, that would also leave you with excess on the outer profile so that you can drill into that excess for workholding on your second operation.

For the machining of the gearbox, i would suggest screwing the gearbox on a mounting plate (from the bottom when machining the 2nd side). That way, you can clamp the mounting plate on the table (instead of the part itself) and not be worried it will come loose with all the pulling force of the milling process!
If you wanna go a step further into production mode, you can use locating pins in the mounting plate on a jig to always put it back in the exact same spot, clamping and pressing cycle start on the milling. It would help with production speed

As a full-time wheelchair user myself I appreciate what you are trying to do here. I currently have a decent power chair that is somewhat usable Off-road but only on hard dry ground that is relatively flat. It is a $35,000 chair without insurance that is well beyond anything I could ever afford. If you could make a kit that could adapt a one wheel into a remote controlled pusher for manual wheelchairs that would be a great improvement on what is currently available. I use a smartdrive currently and it works well enough but it is quite expensive at $7,500 and it doesn't have that much power or range. I have thought about buying a one wheel & modifying it to be remote controlled but I don't have to electronic know how to pull it off. But they are vastly cheaper, more powerful and has far greater range than current manual wheelchair drive devices.

Looking at your gearbox, I wonder if the two halves might need to “key together” in a future iteration? Seems like the misalignment torque imparted by those gears is gonna be pretty high. Congrats on the Tormach: very cool!
I've owned a Tormach for a couple years. One of the best things I bought for it was a fixture plate from Saunders Machine Works. It makes fixturing a lot faster and also gives you a lot more options than a traditional milling machine table. You lose a little bit in Z travel but it's well worth it, especially if you're working with a lot of pieces that don't fit very well in a vise.

Hey, Zack just a FYI for someone who worked on machines like these for a living. This is something that oddly enough even the "pros" seem to forget about these machines. Always check to make sure your coolant's oil ratios are correct before you run a batch, it will change as you mill and start to become more oily. So when you add coolant you usually should add less oil than the value it says, because it will evaporate with time, but the oil stays around. However, if your coolant gets too much water and not enough oil it can damage your tools, so it's always better to be a bit over than a bit under. The oil/water ratio will change as you use it and can vary depending on what you use it for. Bigger parts will cause the oil to go down faster than smaller parts (It's because the oil has a larger surface area to stick to). I can tell just by experience the way the coolant moves if it has too much oil or water, but you don't know that so you will need to measure it, measure it after the first part when the coolant has had some time to mix. Basically though, if it's sticking to your part it's too oily, it should flow off your part, but not as fast as water. ALSO NEVER NEVER EVER EVER ADD PURE WATER DIRECTLY TO THE SYSTEM WITHOUT SOME OIL IN IT, YOU WILL RUST YOUR MACHINE FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY OOPS! Also please make sure to bolt your part down really well throwing a part is never ever good, you can ruin your tools and throw out your shafts, ruining your accuracy, this is especially true with aluminum because aluminum tends to like to bind to steel parts so be very careful. Lastly, on your part, you made the two ends did not align with each other, and I know that you were learning, but the secret to that is to never use the edge of a raw piece of aluminum as your reference point, that is how you get that misalignment. Always use a point from the part you cut. I'm happy for you though good luck making those parts! You will love this machine!
I've been learning how to program HAAS CNC mills for the last few years and I'm really excited to potentially see milling on the channel in the future! side note, please keep the safety doors closed during an operation to keep yourself safe, these machines can take your arm if not your life
Love the cause and dedication! I've got a 1100mx myself. If I may suggest, when drilling I always use "deep drilling" in fusion 360. This cycle will do multiple pecks to the depth, helps clear chips, and makes a straighter hole. Especially good for small drills.
I highly suggest installing a spinning window on the CNC. That way you can still view the operation and film safely while having the doors closed. AvE has a video explaining how they work and installation.
Not always look at the profit first ... looking first at doing something that helps people, that brings the planet further. That's how we can evolve. Thank you both!
Thank you so much! I just bought a bunch and will distribute the coins around the ALS community here to spread the word! I'm super excited about your new project!
Love your channel and what your doing with your notawheelchair. I just ordered 3x coins and you helped our family to pick out the Anker 737 / 57 battery pack with 3 solar panels too.
For someone who describes the self as “not a professional in any of this” you seem to be absolutely nailing it anyway! More power to you buddy! I’m not an electronics / motors expert by a long shot but could the direct drive motors from washing machines be adapted or used somehow for drive of the vehicles? Just seems like a high torque low rev motor would be better for this application but as I say I know very little on this subject. Just throwing ideas around. And big respect to toe Mach for their support! That’s rad!
Great coin idea, supports the project and raises awareness. I hope that the destination of the coins is not limited. Regarding the gearbox, I would suggest oil and the function of sprinkling the gears for a longer life.

Happy to support the project! Access to mobility products is such a struggle for those who need it most. Anything we can do to help is a must. Thank you Zack & Cambry for stepping up like this.
This project is amazing! Zack, you guys might want to consider alternative ways of donating to the project for all those people outside the US (like me) who would like to help, even without receiving any physical goods in return. Or, if you already have other ways, please list them in the video description of future videos :)
Same boat.
I was about to comment on the same thing. I want to help but the shipping cost to Brazil alone is the same price as the second tier. I would much rather donate all to the project rather than receiving the coins.
I also tried to choose a pickup method (and never pickup) to avoid the shipping cost but there's no option to do that.
Tormach gotta be happy about this. For many people this could be their first exposure to what even is a CNC mill, and having the Tormach brand etched in their brain is priceless brand association.
Super humbling to see this project take off. More so, to hear the values that you two have and are driving forward with. Nothing but the best of luck to you and everyone on the team.
You two make me proud. With my back & knee problems, my doctor @ the time told me I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 50yo. Well I've past that milestone, I'm not 57yo.
My back & knees are getting worse. Last year I had to have rods, 2 cement disks, & they said something about stem cells to help regrow bone where bone in crumbling. Well I feel like that rod thing is going to shoot out over my left kidney @ anytime & I'm lucky to stand more then 30 minutes to try to cook supper. But in a lot of pain.
You might say, your lucky not to be in that wheelchair. Believe me I'm not complaining one bit. I know it could be worse & I thank God everyday morning, noon, & night for giving me longer, 7yos so far, from that wheelchair. I'm just trying to tell Zack & Cambrey that I'm so, so, proud of what their doing for the wheelchair community. Helping this community who would or have a hard time, getting off trail & seeing our amazing planet 🌏 & not making a killing of money off this wheelchair community. There not thinking about their wallet, their thinking of inventions to help this community to get off trail with their families & enjoy different terrain of the beautiful outdoors smells - freshness & something better then concrete & carbon monoxide that's in all our cities & is killing us.
So with that said Congratulations you two & God bless everything you two do,
Chris from Missouri
P.S. please let Zack have more toys bc he really loves to play with them & tell us about them...... lol....
You are an inspiration, the little I have I'm happy to share with you. Keep up the great work!
The amount of things that I've learned over the years watching you is mind-blowing ! Thanks a million times!
As a wheelchair user, thank you. I would love the ability to go where wheelchairs can’t. You guys are a great couple and you found a need and are trying to fill a need. Love you both!
It's just fantastic how many work you spend for your projects to make the world a better place
-greetings from germany Leonard
The evolution of your channel over the years have been amazing to witness. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
@@JerryRigEverything Do you skip to South Afrika
Hey guys love ya work ....I am a para myself and it is refreshing to finally have genuine people helping those in need and not just adding zeros to the price of anything that we need ....P.S. your beautiful wife should be on the show way more .....Final note....any of those coins left
You have a good heart Zack! World needs people like you
So very cool! I have a client with a tooling shop with several of these and other equipment, including very old Bridgeport Milling Machines that have been modernized with computer controlled servos.
Congrats on your new "toy".
Someone with the power to do something meaningful is actually doing it, I think I am gonna cry.
I have been recently wheelchair bound due to Heart Failure, part of the reason I stopped making RUclips review videos. Having Not a wheelchair would help immensely to get me out of the house and about. Sadly can't afford one, but I am super appreciative of all that you guys do and bringing light to those in need.
Yo Zack I thought you're gonna stop after installing that elevator in your house, but you took the whole thing to another level kudos mate 🙏
I hope this channel never ends and keep spreading happiness ❤️

I absolutely love this how your trying to give back to people that have disabilities. I would love to see behind the scenes on how you make your products. I also would love to see how you make not a wheelchair. Please keep up the great work guys and I can’t wait to see what you do in the future
The world needs more people like you both. Keep it more and more behind the scenes content the merrier
What a georgeous commitment. You two beings are absolutely beautiful. Much love and big success !
I have been following and watching content on this channel for the past 3 years now and I am really impressed - from breaking phones to now working on serious projects that impact lives, easily one of my best channels on RUclips.
I’m amazed, even thought this should be the “normal”, how much you are not afraid showing the mistakes you make! Showing that you are not perfect on what you do, but damn sure you are ready to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals! Congrats, and success!
As the shipping fees are higher than the coin, I support you this way for your great project!
Hi guys , I’m so impressed with you too. Your such a beautiful couple. I very much understand. I work in medical transportation and often carry patients in a wheelchair van. It is a humbling experience but at the end of the day it makes it a bit easier to feel you maybe made a difference. I’ve seen what it does to people who are not respected b/c they are in a wheelchair or can’t enter a building that’s not wheelchair accessible. Your inventions help people enjoy the great outdoors, something to many never experience. You are true heroes !!! 💖♿️
This guy is the person I think we should all strive to be
Most men aren't strong enough...that's why they're not striving like that. They're too lazy and unambitious. And that's the life that suits them.
Thank you sir, your a very lucky man to have such a Smart and Beautiful lady in your life. I love what you both do.
I love the content, presentation, and most of all the spirit in which you both are advancing this effort. My hat is truly off to you both! I love all the behind the scenes technical details, please keep posting them!
That is some machine! The gearbox housing you made amazes, and it looks like it's ready to use. Your 'this is not a wheelchair' creation must be evolving into a more affordable, durable, and efficient ride for more disabilities. Nothing in outdoor mobility for disabilities touches the freedom and enjoyment your product(s) promise and at a fraction of the cost. You've created something most people love - freedom. Exciting times - Thank You!
Love the behind the scenes as always! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next.
Love to watch your videos, and love it when you and Cambry make the videos together. You are a lovely couple and an inspiration to many. ❤ I ordered a coin to come across the pond to 🇬🇧. I think it is a wonderful project and I wish you all the best with it. You have the power to change peoples lives for the better.
The coins are a really great idea, the design looks awesome!
It's been said already, but it would be great if you guys could find a way to ship them internationally. I know the logistics of such things can be complicated, but even if international buyers have to cover the extra shipping costs, I bet people worldwide would be lining up to buy them and be more than happy to do that. As an American living in Australia, I certainly would.
Keep up the great work, you're going to change so many lives with this!
I'll get it fixed later today
@@JerryRigEverything Awesome to hear!
We need more people like you, build large but then really share the opportunity with others. Thats the best way to become bigger and more than just a company. If we focused on helping the pople whoi needs just a bit of help then our society will become something it never have been before.
I donated $100, as a 12 year paramedic I love what you guys are doing! You should have a $250 option as well!! I would have donated that so a person could live life! The US government doesn’t support people with needs well enough! I love you guys and your story! Please keep being amazing!
Sent an order for the coin!! Greetings from Finland/Norway ☺️ you guys do INCREDIBLE work and super happy to support this overseas. Been following your channel for some years and it's absolutely my favourite. Keep up the good work!
I’ve been following you for a long time and extremely impressed with your dedication. I am so very glad to see that you 2 are taking on technology to assist.
I ordered my $100 treasure chest just now! Thank you both for all the good things you do for others. I love you guys!! - B
You guys are heroes without a cape🤝🏼♥️ humanity at its finest.
Just picked up a coin. Glad I can help. Keep up the great work.
Two wonderful people doing wonderful things in a world in need of wonder. Great job Zach and Cambry! 💙💪👍🙌👩🦽
Just received the coin today. Carvings from this machine is precise. I like the mirror finish on the back. It feels great to be part of this!
Thank you!!
So awesome that you picked them up as a channel sponsor! Low key jealous really. If you end up with any open machine time you want to make fingers for my channel?
Keep it up, you're doing great things!
It would be awesome if you guys were able to work together. I've loved seeing the progress you've been making on your hand!
I think a cnc milling machine is any makers dream. I work for an aerospace company and have seen many different types but they all cost a few million $. Glad to see you are able to afford one. Good luck with Not a Wheelchair. It’s a great idea. Have you thought of getting a kickstarter for it? From the comments it looks like you’ve already have a line forming for this product.
Are you using skim or 2% for that coolant?
Whole milk vitamin D baby
I got really excited as soon as I figured out you were unboxing a mill. I got the chance to use CNC mills and manual mills in high school and college, if I had the space for one I would absolutely own it. Love what you guys are doing with NotaWheelchair. I would enjoy more videos watching what you guys are creating!
This is so awesome. Can you show us how the tiny pieces of aluminium are getting recycled?
My main takeaways:
3-D printers make something out of nothing
CNC printers make nothing out of something
Cambry’s voice is soothing as ever
Zack is awesome
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Those coins look like they take a long time to make one by one. I hope y’all can keep up with the orders
I’m a disabled person, and my wheelchair is basically my lifeline. However most of the wheelchairs I’ve been in aren’t really able to go off road or go on small bumps. This company you’ve created is incredible. I wish you nothing but absolute success! One day I hope to invest in your company. You are so transparent, and I’d feel safe if you used my money!
That’s a great idea to come up with the coins and also the Treasure Chest you can buy with the coins! I would love to see a Collab with Cam on merch. “He either really likes it or has no idea how to get rid of it” lmfao
Just ordered my coin! Can't wait to get it ❤️ thanks for helping so many people and show that you can do things if you set your mind to it

Who else thinks Zack should do a durability test for the box? 🤔

I've been learning how to program HAAS CNC mills for the last few years and I'm really excited to potentially see milling on the channel in the future!
side note, please keep the safety doors closed during an operation to keep yourself safe, these machines can take your arm if not your life
Does the box scratch at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7?

@@girlsdrinkfeck something original
It should
As a disabled person myself, I can say I would be extremely interested in videos showing your work/design processes involved.
A lot of Good wishes from India to Jerry and Cambry , congratulations for your new project!!
Humbled just watching you man - your energy, perseverance and dedication is awe inspiring. You are an example to us all.
My favorite channel fo all time. Keep up the good work Jerry, & I love how Cambry now speaks like you. :) You both are a gem. God Bless you.
I have a cousin that has been in a wheelchair because of cerebral palsy and she would absolutely love this. It would be a life changer for her.
Welcome to the amazing world of cnc .. I have one in my small shop , it's been my best friend and employee for yrs ..
God bless have fun
LOVE this channel and this new business/direction. True innovators look for ways or avenues to completely upend a business model! That is exactly what you both are doing, I am 100% behind it! 10-pack was a no-brainer for me. PLEASE.....keep doing you!!
Thank you!
Zack, Zack, I see you have jumped down the rabbit hole of machining manufacturing. Best of luck with figuring out programming, fixturing, tooling, tools speeds and feeds, tolerances, surface finishes, and all that good stuff. Enjoy!
I was wondering what kind of project could top the electric hummer conversion project but here we are !! this project is really cool , the fact that it will help so many people, that we can see part of the development through videos and that important industrial partner jump in and provide equipment, is awesome ! I know another one of my favorite channel, The hacksmith, got a partnership with Digikey since they do a lot of electronic, and they provide them with a fully equipped electronic lab with multimeter, soldering station, oscilloscope, all kind of parts, etc. maybe you can reach out to them ;)
Just got my coin and the lovely pic of you both! Thanks for all that you guys do and are going to do! Cant wait to see how it progresses!
Thank you for the support!
As a former machinist, cnc mill operator I believe if you go nice and slow on the last few passes the end result won’t have so many markings on it. The computer controlled ones are nice. I learned on manual ones.
