The Freelander 2 is the compact 4x4 we all knew Land Rover had the capacity to build. Whereas its predecessor's spread of talents was distinctly patchy, the Freelander 2 offered superior build quality, sleeker styling and even better off-road potential. It was also a car that improved quite significantly over the course of its life and the models we look at here are those built from 2008 through to the 2011 model year facelift that arrived in dealerships at the end of 2010.

The FL2 is a hidden hero. It's put down a lot because of LR snobbery. Super reliable, perfectly adequate in snow, general offroad, etc. No, it's not going to drive through the jungles of Peru, but then neither are most LR drivers, regardless of the model.

This is probably the most reliable land rover that land rover made. The others aren't as bad as all the trolls say they are but the Freelander 2 was probably the most reliable land rover.
TRUST ME I HAD ONE, replaced the engine and transmission, issues never ended, new radiator, fuel pump, and the issues never ended. Only get this car for your worst enemy!

Even though I love the land rover Freelander 2 but to say land rover+ reliable in a same sentence it's laughable,

My FL2 is 13 years old as well. I love this beast, I have the Si6 cylinder 3.2L Petrol engine. This car is great off-road!
The best. Ordinary people have no idea.
I also have the i6 it’s the most underrated vehicle and the most reliable of any Landrover, fantastic engine. Not many left in the country now as most went to North America. About 300 registered in the UK at last count so will now be starting to appreciate.

Bought a 2009 with 160 000 kilometres on the clock just last week. It's Awesome!
I had a Test drive Today, gonna buy it tomorrow is 162 000 km on the Clock.... i can't wait

i think this is most underrated vehicle perfect in mountains pushes hard 118kw on highways

My wife's 2004 K-series is getting a little bit past it, she has hot me looking at FL2's for her. Nit sure if getting a low mileage early moxrl or high mileage newer one offers an advantage....would like thd petrol but that stopped years ago.....Must be SE or HSE trim....would £4 - £5000 get me a nice one?

I have question. Somewhere I read that 2.2 td4 don't have 4x4 system, instead they use only front wheels, is that true? It said that sd4 only have 4x4
They make a front wheel drive only version but it's rare. Most are 4wd
My wife has the 2.2 TD4 - definitely has 4x4

Transmision was made with bad but spensive materials that means a very high cost in repations.
Isn't the Freelander really just a Mondeo that's lifted and with 4wd, less reliability and more expensive?
I’ve never had 42mpg combined and I’ve been driving it for 9 years your luck to get 33mpg
I drive to the east coast from Yorkshire average 46 to the gallon returning back average 44 no problem bee doing this journey since 2014
Like the car but never got more than 33mpg😢
Very old model fl2 to review, the 2013 onward much nicer car
