    Just seen this and it has saved me so much stress. I made 6 candles today for the very first time, and every single one had a sink hole. I couldn't find my heat gun and used my hairdryer and ended up with wax all over the worktop and running down the jars. I eventually found the heat gun and it worked a treat. Thank you so much. I now know to do this before the wax sets completely.

    3.10min packed with information. Are you a Salesman or a Teacher? You articulate very well, on this subject. I learned so much from you. Thank you very much. I wished I had found your video before I made my first batch of candles. But, I refilled them with a different colour wax once the sub layer had soft set. Then, I used a heating torch to melt the candles like you did. The top wax (different colour) melted down and formed a really nice blended tone and pattern of both colours. It looks really cool. I think I might have stumbled on a neat technique.

  • @Darkcoalworld
    @Darkcoalworld 6 лет назад +15

    Isolate your candle by storing them in a closed box or cover them and avoid ventilation. AC and Fans can accelerate the cooling process and cause your candles to shrink and sink and also preheat your containers so that it is adequate enough for the pour and doesn't shock your hot wax. (You can preheat them at a low temp in your oven or double boilers.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted

      ThaSikeChick This is my candle channel account.
      I’ve never been a fan of preheating jars. Slows the cooking process and with certain waxes you will still get some sinkholes. I’d rather pour hotter and fix in post.

    I think I poured too hot, so I will try you're temp and see if that makes a difference. I didn't know there was a sink hole as it wasn't visible until I lit it and clearly saw it. My first time making a candle and it came out great for my first try. I also had to calculate my own wax weight with FO and was spot on. It's so much fun🙂

    If I have any residual wax left over, I heat it up, fill the sinkhole then when the wax is completely level, I blow the hair dryer over the surface (hot setting) and it levels out, leaving no tell-tale filling-in lines. Simpler.

    • @4HourJourney
      @4HourJourney  7 лет назад +1

      This is usually the result of heating too hot, most of the time this happens when you pour too hot or cold.
      I haven't had this happen from a heat gun yet. Soy has this issue more than most. Are you using 100% soy?
      How close and how hot are you heating the tops?

      I do. Heat any residual wax you have left over, re-fill the sink-hole, (You may have to do this more than once) then when it's dry and to the level you want, get rid of those tell-tale refill lines by heating the surface of the candle gently, with a hot-air gun, or a hairdryer set to the hot setting.

  • @aschroeder6675
    @aschroeder6675 7 лет назад

    Love this. Now can you use a blow dryer on low heat ? Also can you fix this hole problem any time after it cools or does the problem need to be fix within like a 24 hour period ?

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted 6 лет назад

      This is my actual candle account.
      A blow dryer does work but it's got much more force and can blow the wax all over. A heat gun gets much hotter and works alot better. :)

    I tried EVERYTHING. I MEAN EVERYTHING! I've played with the temp. If mixed less because of air bubbles...I tried using different wicks, I've tried using different temps. I've tried pouring slow. I tried pouring faster. This is STILL happening!! It's sooooo frustrating 😢😢😢
    Like what am I doing wrong? This isn't my first Rodeo I've been doing this for a while and for some reason I just can't get the fucking sinkholes to stop forming. And it's always in the damn middle. So what you've taught me here is if it's in the middle it's probably something to do with my wick? Is it the wick size that could create this? If you have too much of a big wick in too much of a little jar will it create sinkholes in the middle of it? I guess that's a really good question and it pretty much is the only thing I can think of of why my candles are still doing this after so much effort

  • @chocolatebutterfly9295
