    When you're done please don't pour the used acetone into the drain but let it evaporate outside instead! This will avoid polluting our water. Videos like this need to teach collectors because many are young and don't know about these things.

    If you have sediment you can gently pour off the acetone that is floating on top and then paper towel the leftover sludge in the bottom. You could also pour it through a filter so that you can stretch its use (environmentally speaking, use it for as long as you can before dumping into the waste stream).

    I was a bit skeptical cause I saw someone else do this before, but they didn't do any comparisons so I wasn't exactly confidant that there was any shrinking happening [didn't help that doll still looked the same]. But I am so relieved to see that it is possible! Especially considering the Ever After|Monster high dolls proportions drove me nuts lol.....

    Hello Dirili Dolls, at about 8 minutes you talk of the neck hole being too narrow after shrinking. Couldn't the shrinking of the hole be prevented by sticking a (non-dissolvable) hard tube in the hole, exactly fitting the hole, before shrinking? The tube would prevent the neck hole from becoming more narrow.
    I say this, because it seems to me it is very hard to measure how much to cut out after the shrinking process.
    With kind regards, D. G. Neree.

      You have to warm the head, then it will get soft, use a pott of water ant place the head on the turned pot lid. It warm soflly and you get the head on the neck.

    Good pointers but my question is the ones that still have their factory paints on their face do you still let it sit in the acetone and it doesn't come off? I was abit confused of how you manage to shrink their heads with their original factory paints on.

    • @dirilidolls7356
      @dirilidolls7356  7 лет назад +7

      I covered that some in my introduction to shrinking video. You can keep the factory paint if you do the slow shrinking method, but you can't with fast shrinking. Fast shrinking uses 100% acetone and that makes the paint slide right off, but the slow method dilutes it with water which allows the paint to stay on as long as you're very careful NOT to touch the paint during the process.
      SOME of the heads may get a little discoloration in the paint, and often you'll lose the shine to it, but the majority of the time there's little, if any change. If you wish to restore the shine to the paint, you can use a gloss or semi-gloss brush-on sealant like Tamiya. The only 2 heads I remember really having big changes on so in the over 100 heads I've shrunken was that the heart around Lizzie Hearts''s eye disappeared, and I had one doll where the color of the lips lost some of its saturation.

    Hello! Your tutorial is great. I already shrinked a lot of Barbie heads in the size of Big Jim (10inch) and I use the slow method . Yes, there is a female Big Jim too. Also with Ken from Barbie it works perfect from 12 inch to 10 inch. Only with the heads of G.I. Joe (Action man) I have problems to get them to the right size. Any ideas?

    Thank you for this video! It's inspired me to give a try to a rather ambitious crafting project. Which is why I'd like to ask you something. I plan on both shrinking and dyeing a Monster High head. Should those tasks be done in a specific order and, if so, what is that order? Any other tips would also be appreciated. Again, thank you for the video! I'm so excited to try this out.
    EDIT: I'm also planning to put the body on a Made To Move Barbie Body (well, a MTM Ken, actually) and I was wondering if that was even possible. I understand that a certain about of neck-hole trimming will be needed to even get it back onto it's original body, and that a Barbie body has a thicker neck and will require more trimming, and that a Ken neck is significantly thicker than either. Is it even possible? Is it advisable to attempt even if it is possible?

    Hi! I noticed you have a Venus Mcflytrap and I was wondering if you know how to remove flocking? I want reroot my Venus Mcflytrap but not sure how to remove the flocking on her head?

    • @dirilidolls7356
      @dirilidolls7356  7 лет назад +3

      Given that flocking falls off so easily if you touch it after it's been soaked in acetone for a while, I think that if you take a paper towel and soak a corner of it in come acetone, they lay it against a part of the flocking for a few seconds, you should be able to just wipe the flocking away. I may give it a try in a few days myself to test. Not sure if I have an extra one around right now or not though. If you try it, juts be careful to, like I said, only soak a corner of the paper towel at a time and work on small sections, because you don't want any acetone to accidentally drip on the plastic of the doll's body and mess it up.

    • @foolsupright8512
      @foolsupright8512 6 лет назад +1

      I did this with the same doll model, you just remove it like you do the face paint! It may take a bit and the flocking is very messy and gets everywhere, but you can get it done fairly well with paper towels and acetone

      I'm not talking about the 17". Check toys r us. The 28" Maddie was released recently, and looks just like the tea party playset Maddie. Like the super tall monsters (aka, new skellita) the knees do not bend. That is the Maddie I'm talking about. (And I have multiple s of the 17", and the regular 10"as well as the 28" ) She's gorgeous, but I still want a smaller head on her.

You might be able to get a new body and put your uma's head in some boiling water for 2 or 3 minutes then take it out and take the head off (CAREFULLY because it happened to me before). Then after that, pop your uma's head on the new body you bought. I hope it will work!!! 😊

    I'm planning on shrinking the head of my Sparkle Girlz doll and she has a very round head, so I'm interested in seeing how shaping works next. I'm honestly a bit nervous about shrinking her because her head isn't /that/ huge compared to her body, at least not compared to EAH proportions, but I'd still like to get it a little smaller (I'm just paranoid it'll get too small!) I'll also be shrinking the head of my La Dee Da doll. I'm not sure if you've worked with either of these brands of doll before but if you have and have noticed things specific to them could you please tell me about them? I love your videos by the way, so helpful!

      Unfortunately I haven't worked with either doll before. If you only want a teeensy bit of shrinking, you may want to try doing an even shorter soak then. Maybe just 12 hours instead of 48? The worst that could happen is that it won't shrink as much as you wanted, and you can soak it again. Just make sure to give it a couple of days to dry to make sure that's how small it's going to get.
      And I'm really glad if my videos can help ^_^

      with the lah dee dah doll, be sure to use this slow shrink method. My first foray into shrinking, I used the one with pink hair. I tried fast method, and didn't remove the hair. the color soaked right into the skin, and now I have a very pink head... Mind you, that may just be because I chose the pink haired one, and tried to save the hair...

      I actually did try the slow shrink method- coincidentally with a pink-haired Sloane La Dee Dah. The first soak was fine but by the second soak the pink dye had soaked into the vinyl. So I also have a much pinker head, even with the slow shrink method! Maybe it's something with the LDD dolls. Thank you for the tip though!

      I can't be sure because I've never had one and can't tell if the head is made of vinyl or not. It all depends on that. It seems like it's vinyl from what I've seen. If it's somewhat squishy and not completely hard then it's probably vinyl.

    Hello! I wanted to try this on a monster high head "create your monter" line type, but i noticed they have this different kind of head construction for wigs. I don't know if the materials are the same as the regular mh heads. Have you tried shrinking those as well? Do you think it might work?
    I love your videos they are so informative and u got me into customization💓🤗 (excuse my granmar if something is written incorrectly, english is not my first languaje😓)

      If the create a monster doll has a hard plastic disc on top of its head, you must cut this out and shrink the head without it. Acetone does not shrink hard plastics; an hour in acetone reduces the hard cap to shapeless goo!

    • @dirilidolls7356
      @dirilidolls7356  Год назад

      Sorry it's been so long! If you were able to completely disassemble the doll, I'd say it should work on the vinyl parts. But usually dolls have various components, almost inevitably some of them being hard plastic that will melt.
