    Great video Al and thanks for featuring House of Charcoal. It’s so important to get the message out there that British Charcoal is some of the best you can buy and can’t be beaten for flavour, purity and sustainability!

      Hi James that’s not a problem. It’s great to see someone giving producers a single place to sell their charcoal & like you said it’s fantastic quality & adds great flavours. All the best Al

    Thank you for the review on UK made charcoal, raised awareness of whats out there locally. I just cant justify £50+ per bag to run my offset smoker. I rather buy local seasoned wood in bulk. For reference, I can get roughly 750kg of oak (also cut to size) for £420. £1.70/kg. I might use these bags on a kettle or small bbq or during one off cooks using a specific flavour like cherry wood. Anyway, great vid thank you

      Thanks for watching & the comment. I 100% agree with you. I do exactly as you said I run my offset on wood & use good quality lump wood charcoal when using my other BBQ’s. I have always said I count both wood & charcoal as an ingredient so using the right stuff to use matters. Cheers Al

    Love Logs Apple Wood Charcoal is amazing, it’s produced from the Cider orchard’s from Hereford. Love Logs are amazing to buy from. They have excellent customer care and keep you updated on your order. Just remember when you buy excellent quality British Charcoal it’s not just a fuel but and ingredient to your food that blows others away.

    Seeing that they're all natural lump charcoals, I'm inclined to believe they're all quality. Some briquettes are decent but most are worse than propane. But as far as I know, mesquite is not grown in Britain and in my humble opinion there is no better bbq heat source than natural lump mesquite charcoal. Especially for beef. So all high quality, yeah I'll believe that. Best in the world? I'll have to give it a taste sometime... :)

      @BigAlsBBQ  3 месяца назад +1

      Cheers for the comments and really interesting points. You are correct Mesquite doesn't grow naturally in the UK and It would be really interesting to use charcoal made from it. I know the logs give a stronger flavour when used in an offset but is there any well known brands

      @@BigAlsBBQ I usually buy Sonora Trade Co. It's fairly inexpensive and widely available in my local supermarkets (Southern California, maybe nationwide), usually only about $10 for 15 lbs which I think translates to just shy of 7 kilos for about 8 or 9 GBP. The raw wood is also widely available and quite a bit stronger in flavor. I use the charcoal in my Weber kettle grill (don't own an offset) without any additional flavor wood. I burn a small fire on one side, meats on the other. I would describe it as being subtly citrus-y with just a little bit of a spicy bite. Maybe almost kind of a cilantro note. Cooking a tri-tip over it seasoned simply with salt, pepper, paprika, and touch of coriander, and choking the fire to take 45-60 minute to reach a medium rare is some of the grubs I can make.

      Wow that sounds amazing, I was starting salivate just reading your description 😂. I have had a look and cant find any in the UK but I have a friend who imports a lot of pits from the US so I might see if he can grab me a few bags. Thank you for the recommendation. Al

    • @BigAlsBBQ
      @BigAlsBBQ  3 месяца назад +1

      that is the nice thing about briquettes is the consistent heat & length they last but you have to get all natural & very good quality ones to stop bad taste & tonnes of ash. Al

    • @BigAlsBBQ
      @BigAlsBBQ  3 месяца назад

      No the bags were opened ready to go as watching me pull out a bit of string is not great content. You can clearly see all bags were complete and untampered with by how they pour out & the fact of dust that was left. I was not paid by any of these companies, I don’t recommend a single supplier. This was me giving my viewers information. I would encourage to buy any of the brands featured in the video & see for yourself

    • @Badmana0
      @Badmana0 3 месяца назад +1

      You make a good point. And the last two bags you shown is giving me the temptation to go and buy a bag and see but as far as my experience with coal goes two bags of the same brand sitting on the same shelf can be completely different. In another video that Weber lump would you had was seriously bad almost dust but I've had Weber lump wood bags that are very good.
