Buy Nothing Day 2023: A Stand Against Throw-Away Culture

- Each year, we mark Black Friday by celebrating Buy Nothing Day. In making this stand, we are joining tens of thousands of people in 65 nations for an international day of protest against mass consumerism and the throw-away culture that accompanies it. The Buy Nothing Movement has been growing since 1992 as overconsumption is consuming natural resources faster than we can replace them and putting our planet in real jeopardy.
Please do NOT shop with us on Friday, November 24. Instead, we hope you will spend the time with your family and friends, make memories, share acts of kindness, complete (or start) a craft or project you’ve been putting off. This is a day to reach for meaning in our lives instead of stuff! Thanks for being part of the solution.

Strengthening the bonds between people and plants for a healthier world.

Support should still go towards local resources (like co-ops & farmers) as well as artisans. This should also be on any given day.
Yes, of course! Every day should be a day to celebrate our local communities! 🥰
Love this!!! I have always been anti-Black Friday. Today my family and I are enjoying the day together doing.
Spending my day at home like every other Black Friday. Not interested to fight the crowds for the last tv or gadget that I don't need. Good luck to all that think they need to have them because they will save $20 bucks today. I have everything I need and I'm grateful for that!
We have done this for 10 years now. Our family does not celebrate capitalistic holidays
Buying nothing and only giving handmade gifts made from found objects. We can make a difference!
I LIKE your idea! Next year I'll have a party. This year, today, I'm going to clean and reorganize my kitchen cabinets.
Thanks
A Buy Nothing Day party sounds delightful 🥰
I never do this pitiful day I feel so sorry for the sheep
It's cold turkey day here in the USA.
Good idea. I will spend it hiking.
Hope you had fun!
I spent my day making a homemade bird feeder for the sparrows this winter. 🙏😊❤👍
So sweet! I bet the sparrows are mighty thankful for you 🥰
Yes, yes, yes. I am 100000% for this. Proudly bought nothing for Black Friday!
Staying home watching the snow fall. Cleaning my house
Wising we had snow here in Oregon! This sounds delightful!
Yes!!!
I never partake. Not a shopper. If i "need" something i always get it secondhand. 🙏🏼☮️💚
I'm spending my day working in the yard, prepping my garden for spring. I'm turning compost, raking leaves, pruning trees, etc. I refuse to buy meaningless gifts when I make the gifts I want to give.
I supported one- small business, women-owned- a paper-free digital planner for the coming year
Love it - been doing this for years!
Blessings 🙏.....absolutely nothing ❤
Yes! Love this. Took a nice long walk with the dogs this morning. This afternoon, I’m working on my home study of herbalism. (Rosemary Gladstar’s The Science and Art of Herbalism.) 🌱 🪴 💚
Wonderful! Enjoy your time learning with Rosemary 🥰
Bravo! We need to pay closer attention to our resources!
Been doing this for years such a good idea we all have the power
✊ People, plants, and planet before profit!
The best gift of all is giving of yourself- your time, your expertise, or your own handmade items. Write an "IOU" booklet for someone, for a home-cooked meal, cookies, or a day out with someone who is otherwise housebound. Go visit someone at an assisted living facility, a children's hospital, etc. No overseas imported goods or money required. And, don't only do it for the holidays!
We love all these ideas! Thank you!
I only buy from small business owners which is usually in the form of yarn or knitting patterns.
It is a GO NOWHERE day
We always prefer small business owners! Happy knitting :)
I buy nothing on Black Friday! I did repurpose and old feed bin into chicken nesting boxes today and also made herbal tinctures and spritz today for gifts.
Sounds like you had a lovely and productive day!
Love it! I can get behind this movement!
Here's a cool Buy Nothing project if you want to get involved: buynothingproject.org/ 😃

YES!!
Today I just enjoyed my day decorating my house 😊
This sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy your day! 🥰
I love this message. Thank you 🙏
I will be buying a blueray player today, but that will be it. ❤️
I love this!! Wish it was advertised more!
